TPLO plate includes first and second distal holes and a body with a proximal portion positioned over a proximal tibia segment and a distal portion extending along a longitudinal axis and positioned over a distal tibia segment. The first hole includes an elongated portion extending along the longitudinal axis and an offset portion extending distally from the elongated portion along an offset axis at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis. The second hole extends through the distal portion along the longitudinal axis in alignment with the elongated portion and includes a sloped compression surface along a distal portion. The first hole is such that, when a distal compression to osteotomy cut is applied via insertion of a bone fixation element into the distal portion, the element translates along the offset axis from a central axis to an intersection point to provide a cranial compression to the cut.

A medical implant according to the present invention includes a substrate having a plurality of discrete connection portions. Each connection portion has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a through-opening extending between the top surface and the bottom surface. A connecting member extends between each connection portion and connects adjacent connecting portions to each other. At least one of the plurality of connection portions has a first width and at least one of the connecting members has a second width, different from the first width. An outer covering substantially encompasses the substrate. The outer covering extends around the through-openings and encompasses the connecting member.

A bone plate sized and shaped for fixation to a phalangeal bone includes a head extending from a first end to a second end and having first, second third and fourth fixation element holes extending therethrough and arranged in a diamond configuration on the head, an outer wall of the head having a diamond shape corresponding to the diamond configuration, a bone contacting surface of the head being contoured to conform to the anatomy of a dorsal surface of a first metacarpal, the contour being curved to be seated over a protuberance at a head of the first metacarpal and a shaft extending from the head, the shaft including an elongated fixation element hole elongated in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of the bone plate.

A medical implant according to the present invention includes a substrate having a first plurality of openings and a second plurality of openings formed therein. An outer covering substantially encompasses the substrate. The outer covering has an absence of sharp edges and extends into the first plurality of openings and around the second plurality of openings. A kit including the implant and at least one fastener is also disclosed.
