A tire includes a carcass ply, a tread disposed radially outward of a crown region of the carcass ply, and a belt structure having an overall axial width substantially equal to a tread width interposed between the tread and the crown region in circumferential surrounding relation to the carcass ply. The belt structure includes a first belt layer and a second belt layer radially adjacent the first belt layer. The first belt layer includes a first reinforced composite with first reinforcement cords embedded in a first rubber matrix. The first reinforcement cords have a construction of 1100/4 dtex with a twist between 150 TPM and 250 TPM and a dipping tension between 100 mN/tex and 200 mN/tex.

Belt structure for a tire

A reinforcement structure for a polymer ply includes a plurality of flat woven cords. Each flat woven cord has a width between 0.5 mm and 1.6 mm and a thickness between 0.2 mm and 0.8 mm thereby producing the reinforcement structure with an overall width between 25.0 mm and 26.0 mm. Each flat woven cord includes materials with melting points between 130&#xb0; C. and 230&#xb0; C.

The present invention is directed to a pneumatic tire comprising a carcass and an innerliner in direct contact with the carcass, the innerliner comprising: a film comprising a blend of a polyamide, an &#x3b1;-olefin graft copolymer, and an ionomer; and an adhesive layer disposed between the film and the carcass, the adhesive layer comprising: a polymeric amine and a resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) adhesive. The invention is further directed to a method of building a pneumatic tire comprising the steps of: exposing an innerliner film to a corona discharge to create a corona treated film, the innerliner film comprising a blend of a polyamide, an &#x3b1;-olefin graft copolymer, and an ionomer; disposing a polymeric amine onto the corona treated film to create an amine treated film; disposing a resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) adhesive on the amine treated film to create a treated innerliner film; and incorporating the treated innerliner film into a tire build such that the treated innerliner film is in direct contact with a tire carcass.

Disclosed is a tire having at least one reinforcing ply in the carcass, belt, or bead region of the tire. The reinforcing ply is comprised of a blended fiber cord. The cords, in combination with a preferred cure temperature adhesive, achieve a high degree of thermal stability allowing for the use of such cords in various reinforcing plies for a pneumatic tire and for preferred use for such cords in areas of the tire subject to high temperatures either in curing or performance.

A process for adhering synthetic textile fibers to sulfur vulcanizable rubbers comprising the steps of (I) immersing the fibers in an aqueous solution which is comprised of (a) 1% to 4% by weight oxazoline polymer, (b) 0% to 4% alkylene glycol monoether and (c) 92% to 99% water to produce coated fibers; (II) drying the coated fibers to produce subcoated fibers; (III) subjecting the subcoated fibers to an RFL adhesive dip to produce dipped fibers; (IV) drying the dipped fibers to produce dried dipped fibers; (V) placing the dried dipped fibers in contact with a sulfur vulcanizable rubber; and (VI) curing the sulfur vulcanizable rubber while it is in contact with the dried dipped fibers. A coated multi-filament reinforcing carbon yarn is encapsulated with a rubber composition. The rubber composition comprises resorcinol-formaldehyde reaction product, a vinylpyridine-styrene butadiene terpolymer, an acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer and urea.

This invention relates to a latex for utilization in adhesive compositions for bonding synthetic fibers to natural or synthetic rubber. These latices can be produced at reduced cost and their utilization results in improved performance characteristics. This invention more specifically discloses a latex which is particularly useful for adhering synthetic fibers to rubber which is comprised of (a) water, (b) an emulsifier and (c) a polymer which is comprised of repeat units which are derived from (i) a conjugated diolefin monomer, (ii) a vinyl aromatic monomer, (iii) 2-vinylpyridine and (iv) a vinyl aldehyde monomer. The present invention further discloses a process for adhering synthetic textile fibers to sulfur vulcanizable rubbers comprising the steps of (I) immersing said fibers in an aqueous dispersion of (1) resorcinol, (2) formaldehyde and (3) a latex which is comprised of (a) water, (b) an emulsifier and (c) a polymer which is comprised of repeat units which are derived from (i) a conjugated diolefin monomer, (ii) a vinyl aromatic monomer, (iii) 2-vinylpyridine and (iv) a vinyl aldehyde monomer, to produce dipped fibers; (II) drying said dipped fibers to produce dried dipped fibers; (III) placing the dried dipped fibers in contact with the sulfur vulcanizable rubber; and (IV) curing the sulfur vulcanizable rubber while it is in contact with said dried dipped fibers.

There is disclosed compounds having, within their structural formulae, a trivalent moiety: ##STR1## which exhibit antiozonant activity when added to rubber compositions at antiozonant effective levels and which exhibit synergistic antiozonant activity when used with conventional antiozonants in rubber compositions. There is also disclosed novel compounds which can be used as antiozonants.

Non-staining and slightly-staining antiozonants

There is disclosed the use of microencapsulated antidegradants in rubber and a process for the production of microencapsulated antidegradants. More specifically, this invention is directed to the cellulose acetate microencapsulation of para-phenylene diamine based antiozonants at wall to core ratios greater than 1:1 but less than 4:1. The microcapsules preferably have a particle diameter of less than 50 microns. The microencapsulated antidegradant prepared and used according to this invention provides long term protection to rubber articles that are subject to ozone and oxygen attack.
