A cationic compatible metal oxide and oral care compositions containing the metal oxide are disclosed. Preferably, the oral care compositions contain a cationic compatible metal oxide and a cationic ingredient, such as for example, a cationic antibacterial agent such as cetyl pyridinium chloride ('CPC'). The cationic compatible metal oxide, e.g. silica, comprise metal oxide particles having a substantially negative surface charge and a vitamin deposited onto or reacted with the surface of the metal oxide particles in an amount sufficient to provide a substantially positive surface charge on the metal oxide particle. Processes for making and using the vitamin modified metal oxide in oral care compositions are also disclosed.

Cation compatible metal oxides and oral care compositions containing the metal oxides

Disclosed are silica bound zeolite adsorbent particles which possess high volumetric gas adsorption capacity for the adsorption and/or desorption of gases. The adsorbent are highly effective as a gas source in volumetrically constrained applications. The silica-bound zeolite adsorbents possess a relatively high zeolite content simultaneously with a relatively low intra-particle pore volume as compared to the clay bound zeolite aggregates heretofore used as a gas source in volumetrically constrained environments, e.g. instant beverage carbonation processes, devices or systems.

Zeolite particles for adsorption and/or desorption of gases and liquids

A silica gel abrasive having good cleaning and low abrasion is prepared by combining at least two silica gels before adjusting the pH of the abrasive to a pH in the range of 3-6. One of the gels is washed at relatively lower temperature compared to the wash temperature of a second gel. The two gels are then milled and dried to a median particle size in the range of 5 to 12 microns. The volatiles content of the gel combination is in the range of 20-40% by weight. The resulting mixtures have low abrasion as measured by Einlehner, e.g., in the range of 0.5 to 3 when measured using a brass screen. A dentifrice composition comprising 10 to 25% of the abrasive has a PCR of at least 80 and can obtain PCR's greater than 100.

An oxygen scavenging composition composed of a carrier and a metal coated, inert, porous particulate material having the metal substantially in a zero valence state. The composition is contained within the interior cavity of a container to scavenge oxygen therein. The composition may form at least a part of the interior surface of the container or be present therein in the form of a film, mat, sachet or ceramic.

Oxygen scavenging metal-loaded high surface area particulate compositions

A porous inorganic oxide carrier body for immobilizing living cells is prepared from inorganic oxide particles such as clay particles. The particles have an average particle size of from 0.01 to 20 microns, and the carrier body has a total pore volume of 0.05 to 1.0 cc/g and an average pore diameter of 50 to 700 .ANG., and has substantially no pore volume in the range of 800 .ANG. or greater. The carrier is prepared by forming a mixture containing the particles, a liquid medium and optional ingredients including zeolite and activated carbon, and forming the mixture into a shaped carrier body which may be optionally dried and calcined. Typical shapes of the carrier include spheres, cylinders, rings, honeycombs and shaped monoliths. Bacteria and other microorganisms immobilized on the carrier are useful for treatment of contaminated waste streams or contaminated vapors, or for other uses for which microorganisms are used such as the synthesis of chemicals.

Porous, non-macroporous, inorganic oxide carrier body for immobilizing

A barrier is formed on a metal substrate by coating the substrate with a metal oxide, calcining the substrate, impregnating the coated substrate with an acid, and calcining the impregnated coating at a temperature high enough to cause the metal oxide to form the barrier. The resulting barrier acts as an excellent electrical insulator, and also provides improved resistance to abrasion, and improved adhesion to the substrate. The particles forming the barrier also have improved cohesion. The metal substrate having the barrier of the present invention can be used in electrically heated catalytic converters, where it is necessary to provide closely spaced layers of metal foil that must be electrically insulated from each other. The invention can also be used in other metal structures intended to be placed in the exhaust stream of a chemical or manufacturing process or an engine.

Porous bodies are produced which are suitable for use as supports for catalysts, including living cells, such as bacteria and which are upset resistant to acids and bases. The bodies have a significantly large average pore diameter of about 0.5 to 100 microns, (i.e. 5,000 to 1,000,000 .ANG.) and a total pore volume of about 0.1 to 1.5 cc/g with the large pores contributing a pore volume of from about 0.1 to 1.0 cc/g. The bodies are made by preparing a mixture of ultimate particles containing a zeolite and one or more optional ingredients such as inorganic binders, extrusion or forming aids, burnout agents, or a forming liquid, such as water. In a preferred embodiment, the ultimate particles are formed by spray drying.

Process upset-resistant inorganic supports for bioremediation

Inorganic supports for bioremediation

When a zeolite additive composition of a medium-pore zeolite with a Constraint Index from about 1 to about 12 and a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than about 12 is added to a conventional cracking catalyst dispersed in an inorganic matrix, the octane will be improved, but there will be a yield loss in the amount of gasoline produced. An improvement in that catalyst system is obtained by partially exchanging the medium-pore zeolite additive with cations from one or more elements of Group IA, Group IIA or Group IIIA excluding rare earths of the Periodic Table. The octane number of the gasoline-range product of an FCC process is still improved while the amount of the gasoline yield loss typically observed for such octane-enhancing additives is reduced.

Zeolite octane additive-cracking process

When a zeolite additive composition of a medium-pore zeolite with a Constraint Index from about 1 to about 12 and a silica to alumina mole ratio greater than about 12 is added to a conventional cracking catalyst dispersed in an inorganic matrix, the octane will be improved, but there will be a yield loss in the amount of gasoline produced. An improvement in that catalyst system is obtained by partially exchanging the medium-pore zeolite additive with cations from one or more elements of Group IA, Group IIA or Group IIIA of the Periodic Table. The octane number of the gasoline-range product of an FCC process is still improved while the amount of the gasoline yield loss typically observed for such octane-enhancing additives is reduced.
