A process for preparing a fiberglass insulation product, including the steps of: (a) providing a layer of fire-retardant kraft paper, (b) coating the fire-retardant kraft paper layer with from 2 to 10 pounds of HDPE or of polypropylene per 3000 square feet of the paper to form an HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or a polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate, (c) coating the HDPE-fire-retardant kraft or polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate with from 3 to 10 pounds of LDPE per 3000 square feet of the HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate to form an LDPE-HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or an LDPE-polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate, (d) adjusting the temperature of the LDPE-HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or the LDPE-polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate so that the LDPE becomes tacky while the HDPE or polypropylene remains solid, (e) providing a layer of fiberglass wool, and (f) contacting the LDPE layer of the LDPE-HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or of the LDPE-polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate with the fiberglass wool layer with pressure and cooling to bond the LDPE-HDPE-fire-retardant kraft laminate or LDPE-polypropylene-fire-retardant kraft laminate to the fiberglass wool layer to form a fiberglass insulation product.

A process for preparing a fiberglass insulation product, including the steps of: (a) providing a layer of kraft paper, (b) coating the kraft paper layer with from 2 to 10 pounds of HDPE or of polypropylene per 3000 square feet of the paper to form an HDPE-kraft laminate or a polypropylene-kraft laminate, (c) coating the HDPE-kraft or polypropylene-kraft laminate with from 3 to 10 pounds of LDPE per 3000 square feet of the HDPE-kraft laminate or polypropylene-kraft laminate to form an LDPE-HDPE-kraft laminate or an LDPE-polypropylene-kraft laminate, (d) adjusting the temperature of the LDPE-HDPE-kraft laminate or the LDPE-polypropylene-kraft laminate so that the LDPE becomes tacky while the HDPE or polypropylene remains solid, (e) providing a layer of fiberglass wool, and (f) contacting the LDPE layer of the LDPE-HDPE-kraft laminate or of the LDPE-polypropylene-kraft laminate with the fiberglass wool layer with pressure and cooling to bond the LDPE-HDPE-kraft laminate or LDPE-polypropylene-kraft laminate to the fiberglass wool layer to form a fiberglass insulation product.

A spinner is adapted to be fixed at one end of a rotatable shaft in a fiberizer, the spinner including a radial wall extending radially out from the shaft and having an upper surface, a dam separating the upper surface into an inner portion and an outer portion, a lower surface, at least one first flow hole connecting the upper surface to the lower surface, and at least one second flow hole connecting the inner portion and the outer portion of said upper surface, and an outer peripheral wall connected to the radial wall and having a plurality of orifices therethrough.

Fiber manufacturing spinner

A fiber manufacturing apparatus including a spinner, mounted on one end of a rotatable shaft, and a source supplying two streams of at least one molten thermoplastic material to the spinner. The spinner includes a radial extension, a radial wall, and an outer peripheral wall. The radial extension is mounted to and extends radially out from the shaft. The radial wall is mounted to and extends radially out from the radial extension. The radial wall includes an upper surface, a lower surface, and an outer periphery. The peripheral wall is disposed around the outer periphery of the radial wall and has a plurality of orifices for centrifuging fibers from at least one molten thermoplastic material. During the operation of the spinner, the radial extension directs one stream of molten thermoplastic material through at least one flow hole to the lower surface of the radial wall and to orifices of the peripheral wall. As the spinner rotates, another stream of molten thermoplastic material is deposited directly onto the upper surface of the radial wall and travels along the upper surface to orifices of the peripheral wall. The spinner is radially balanced during the centrifuging operation and is less susceptible to thermal stress induced cracking.

The method for forming fibers by introducing molten material into a spinner having a peripheral wall having a plurality of orifices and centrifuging the molten material through the orifices to create fibers, discharging gases from an opening in a first annular blower, the first blower positioned radially outward from the spinner, and where the gases from the first annular blower converge radially inwardly with respect to the spinner axis to partially attenuate the fibers and influence the flow path of the fibers towards a direction parallel to the spinner axis, and discharging gases from an opening in a second annular blower, the second blower being positioned radially outward from the first blower, and where the gases from the second annular blower converge radially inwardly with respect to the spinner axis to complete the attenuation of the fibers and influence the flow path of the fibers.

Centrifuging process for forming fibers

A method and apparatus for distributing fibrous material includes establishing a flow of fibrous material, positioning at least two flow distributors in a position to direct a gaseous flow into contact with the flow of fibrous material, such as a flow of glass fibers, each flow distributor having an outer surface having one or more openings for the emission of gas, an inner surface having one or more orifices for the emission of gas, and a pressurized source of gas in contact with the inner surface, the inner surface being moveable with respect to the outer surface to intermittently align some of the openings with some of the orifices, thereby enabling gas from the pressurized source of gas to be emitted through the inner and outer surfaces and into contact with the flow of fibrous material to distribute the fibrous material, and moving one of the surfaces relative to the other of the surfaces to control the emission of gas from the flow distributor.

A brush seal assembly includes a tab extending outward and engageable with a brush seal retainer. Various construction details are disclosed that provide a tab that prevents rotation of the brush seal during use and also prevents reverse installation of the brush seal assembly. In a particular embodiment, a brush seal assembly for installation within a carrier includes a tab that fits radially within a cut-out in a retaining means. Engagement with the cut-out prevents rotation. The tab extends outward from the low pressured side of the brush seal assembly. If installed in a reverse orientation, the tab engages the carrier to block installation of the retaining means.

Apparatus is provided for extending the life of spinners by means of reinforcement which includes a plurality of arms secured to the bottom wall of a spinner either individually or via an annular plate from which the arms extend. The reinforcement applies a radially inward force on a flange extending from the top or center of an outer sidewall of the spinner. The arms exert the radial force as the result of offset cams, due to a prestressed condition which is released after the reinforcement is installed in a spinner or otherwise. If the spinner includes both a center flange and an upper flange, the reinforcement may be installed to engage the center flange with gussets interconnecting the center flange and the upper flange at least at locations corresponding to the reinforcement to thereby provide reinforcement for both flanges. If the reinforcement is formed integrally as an annular plate with arms extending therefrom, the flange to be directly reinforced can be notched to receive the reinforcement by a bayonet coupling motion.

Apparatus for reinforcing a fiber producing spinner

A fiber manufacturing apparatus including a spinner, fixed to one end of a rotatable shaft and equipment for supplying at least one molten thermoplastic material to the spinner is provided. The spinner includes a radial wall and an outer peripheral wall. The radial wall extends radially out from the shaft and has an outer periphery. The peripheral wall is disposed around the outer periphery of the radial wall and has a plurality of orifices for centrifuging fibers from at least one molten thermoplastic material. The spinner is operatively adapted to be radially balanced during the centrifuging operation. By being so balanced, the spinner is less likely to exhibit temperature induced deformation that introduces undesirable process variables during the fiber manufacturing process.

A method and system (10) for rerouting the pressurized oil flow of an engine (not shown) from a primary filter (14) to a secondary filter (18) in the event of a first sensed pressure differential across the primary filter (14) which exceeds an allowable pressure differential, the excessive differential indicative of a primary filter (14) obstruction. In the event of a subsequent second sensed pressure differential which exceeds a second and higher pressure differential across the secondary filter (18), the oil flow is then diverted through a pump relief valve (19) toward the oil reservoir (26), away from an engine bearing compartment (50). The system (10) also provides sequenced first and second level warnings (40, 42) to the controller/flight crew, said warnings responsive to the operating status of the system (10).
