Distortion correction is provided in magnetic resonance imaging. Distortions in one volume are corrected using another volume. The isocenter of the other volume is nearer to an edge of the one volume than the isocenter of the one volume. Using data registration, the other volume is used to correct distortions in the one volume. The other volume may be acquired in little time relative to the acquisition of the one volume by having a smaller field of view, lower resolution, and/or smaller signal-to-noise ratio. The other volume may be a connecting volume for correcting distortions in two volumes to be composed together.

A method and apparatus for providing reports of medical procedures includes a biometric data recorder to record and transmit biometric data of a patient, the biometric data being transmitted with a medical report of the medical procedure. The medical report and biometric data are transmitted as an encrypted transmission to an information center for storage. The medical reports of steps in the medical procedure for a patient are linked using the biometric data even if performed by different medical service providers. Medical reports of plural patients undergoing the procedure are stored, linked according to patient using the patient biometric data. Reports generated from the linked data anonymously report a given patient's status following the procedure. Statistical reports are generated on plural patients undergoing the procedure, and competing procedures are compared using the statistical reports.

A method for generating a pseudo-computed tomography (CT) image volume includes acquiring a first magnetic resonance (MR) image volume (UTE) using an ultra-short echo time and acquiring a second MR image volume (UTE) using a conventional echo time that is longer than the ultra-short echo time. The acquired UTEand UTEimage volumes are normalized. A mask for an anatomical structure featured in the normalized UTEand UTEimage volumes is created and bone regions are segmented from the normalized UTEand UTEimage volumes using the created mask and one or more trained classifiers. A system and method for vertebrae and intervertebral disc localization in magnetic resonance (MR) images is disclosed. In this method, a target spine MR image is segmented by generating a binary segmentation. A spinal cord line is then estimated on the segmented image. Neighboring vertebrae in a region of interest around the estimated spinal cord line are then localized by labeling vertebral regions based on characteristics, such as size and shape, of regions of connected segmented pixels within the regions of interest. A center point of an intervertebral disc between the neighboring vertebrae is then calculated by finding a point halfway between respective borders of the vertebral regions on a line connecting the centers of mass of the vertebral regions.

The method includes the steps of acquiring a query image of a fingerprint; extracting a minutiae set from the query image; comparing the minutiae set of the query image with a minutiae set of at least one template image to determine transformation parameters to align the query image to the at least one template image and to determine a minutiae matching score; constructing a ridge feature map of the query image; comparing the ridge feature map of the query image to a ridge feature map of the at least one template image to determine a ridge feature matching score; and combining the minutiae matching score with the ridge feature matching score resulting in an overall score, the overall score being compared to a threshold to determine if the query image and the at least one template image match.

A compact disc package and a method of assembling the same wherein a generally rectangular envelope is formed to contain a slidable carrier sheet which is capable of holding a compact disc thereon. The carrier sheet includes a protruding tab which extends through a predefined slit in the retaining envelope to restrict movement of the carrier sheet so that the carrier sheet is only partially removable from said envelope. The novel compact disc package can be formed from a single series of rectangular sections assembled to create an envelope and a carrier sheet having movement restricted within the open area of the envelope.
