A mounting system for night vision tubes includes a multi-part sleeve that opens in the manner of a clamshell to receive the tube. The sleeve includes a longitudinal seam or a partial longitudinal seam and opens around compliant hinge regions. The night vision tube engages a ramp section of the sleeve, urging the sleeve to open and then abuts against a front shoulder, causing the sleeve to clamp shut around the night vision tube. The tube is constrained between the front shoulder and a retaining shoulder. An indexing pin engages the night vision tube and the sleeve to maintain mutual rotational alignment. The sleeve and the tube are inserted into a housing of a night vision system.

The present invention provides method and apparatus for treating tissue in a region at depth by applying optical radiation thereto of a wavelength able to reach the depth of the region and of a selected relatively low power for a duration sufficient for the radiation to effect the desired treatment while concurrently cooling tissue above the selected region to protect such tissue. An oil tank sight glass monitor comprising a housing having an opening therein sized to receive the sight glass of an oil tank; an emitter for emitting a beam of light, the emitter being mounted to the housing on one side of the opening so that the beam of light is directed across the opening; a detector for detecting the beam of light generated by the emitter, the detector being mounted to the housing on the other side of the opening, in optical alignment with the emitter, so as to detect the beam of light emitted by the emitter; and an alarm for producing an audible sound when the detector fails to detect the beam of light generated by the emitter.

A motor assisted swivel is disclosed which aids in proper rotation of a swivel in a tether system for animal testing. The swivel may have any number of fluid conduits or electrical or optical leads. A switching mechanism determines a direction of rotation of the tether and activates a motor to rotate the swivel in the direction of rotation. When rotation of the tether stops, further rotation of the swivel causes the switching mechanism to deactivate the motor. The switching mechanism may include a hinged connector with magnets on each side and reed switches to sense movement of the connector about its hinge.

A method and apparatus are provided for controlling the temperature of a surface to preheat or precool the surface, to heat or cool the surface to effect a therapeutic treatment or to post-heat or post-cool the surface. A roller, preferably mounted to a handle, is provided which contains a material which is heated or cooled prior to treatment as appropriate so as to undergo a phase change and is then rolled over the surface the temperature of which is to be controlled, gradually undergoing a phase change to return to its initial state as it is rolled over the surface to effect the desired heating or cooling of the surface. The roller preferably has a large internal surface area in contact with the material undergoing the phase change.
