Systems and methods of the present invention allow for the discovery of physical location information about network assets and the delivery of that information to network administrators. In addition, environmental and other information about network asset locations can be provided to an administrator. Intelligent patch panels and power outlet units are installed in network cabinets to facilitate the acquisition and reporting of physical infrastructure information, including information about network resource availability.

An apparatus for providing surge-tolerant power to an appliance is provided. The apparatus includes an input circuit for receiving a source of DC voltage. The apparatus also includes a pass device having a first terminal, a control terminal and a second terminal. The apparatus also includes a second means for applying a voltage to a control terminal of the pass device based on the output voltage. The voltage is sufficient to put the pass device into a low impedance state between the first terminal and the second terminal thereof.

The present disclosure is directed to a current limiting circuit. The current limiting circuit may include a load, a first switch that controls current supplied to the load, and a first resistive network. The current limiting circuit may further include a voltage divider connected across the first resistive network and including a thermistor. The current limiting circuit may further include a first bipolar junction transistor that controls switching of the first switch. The output terminal of the voltage divider may be connected to a base junction of the first bipolar junction transistor.

A resilient non-conductive element is interposed between the first and second electrically conductive elements, and a compression element compresses the resilient non-conductive element to cause the first and second electrically conductive elements to communicate with one another.

The present disclosure is directed to a distributed control system for a locomotive. The distributed system may include a network and a plurality of electronic modules spatially distributed within the locomotive and communicatively coupled to the network in a standardized scalable architecture. A first electronic module of the plurality of electronic modules includes a first configurable controller and a programmable controller, and a second electronic module of the plurality of electronic modules includes a second configurable controller and does not include a programmable controller.

A first electronic module and a second electronic module of the plurality of electronic modules may be communicatively connected to one of the plurality of control elements via separate communication paths. A patch cord for an intelligent patching system is provided. The patch cord is a ten-wire patch cord having a patch panel plug and a switch plug. The patch panel plug contains ninth and tenth wire contacts that interface with ninth and tenth wire contacts of an intelligent patch panel port. The switch plug is provided with a plunger-style switch that enables the intelligent patch panel to determine when the switch plug is plugged into a switch port. The switch plug is also provided with LED's and circuitry that controls the LED's.

An access control system having an energy-saving optical presence sensor system is provided. The access control system includes a relatively lower operating power object presence sensor system for optically sensing the presence of a token as well in addition to a relatively higher operating power token reader for reading the token. The token reader remains unpowered until a token is detected by the object presence sensor system, which is preferably always powered. Once an object is detected by the object presence sensor system, power is supplied to the token reader and the token is read. After the token has been read, power ceases to be applied to the token reader, although the object presence sensor remains powered.

A method of power management in a wireless access control system includes monitoring usage of a transceiver in a remote access point in a wireless access control system, de-activating the transceiver when the transceiver is not in use, and re-activating the transceiver upon occurrence of a predefined event. Additionally, the method may include transmitting a warning signal when an energy level of a power supply associated with the transceiver is below a predetermined threshold. The method may further include locking the remote access point when an energy level of a power supply associated with the transceiver is below a predetermined threshold. The remote access point may be locked until the energy level is above the predetermined threshold.
