Migration of formation solids in a wellbore is restrained by feeding a slurry, comprising water, a viscosifier, and a concentration of cement clinker particles, into the wellbore, and hydrating the clinker particles in the wellbore. The clinker particles are kept in suspension during the hydrating, and upon completion of the hydrating the hydrated clinker particles form a hardened cement consisting of a permeable structure of interconnected hydrated clinker particles. A layer of degradable lost circulation material (LCM) may be employed to separate the slurry with clinker particles from the formation surrounding the wellbore during hydrating of the clinker particles.

Method of restraining migration of formation solids in a wellbore

A system for measuring one or more physical properties of cementitious material is operable to cure a slurry of cementitious material under desired conditions of temperature and pressure. Particularly, the system may be operable to cure the slurry under a temperature and pressure expected to be experienced downhole. The system may also be used to determine properties of the cured cementitious material, such as maximum yield strength and shear bond strength at the desired temperature and pressure. The desired conditions of temperature and pressure may be applied both during curing and testing of the cementitious material.

In situ testing of mechanical properties of cementitious materials

The present invention relates to subterranean well cementing operations, and more particularly, to cement compositions that include high aspect ratio materials, and methods for using such cement compositions in subterranean formations. An example of a method of the present invention is a method of cementing in a subterranean formation. An example of a composition of the present invention is a cement composition for use in a subterranean formation.

Cement compositions comprising high aspect ratio materials and methods of use in subterranean formations

Cement is conditioned, cured and/or tested while applying a specified temperature and/or pressure. In certain embodiments, the specified temperature and/or pressure applied during the testing substantially simulates anticipated static downhole conditions the cement will be subjected to in use. In certain embodiments, the specified temperature and/or pressure applied during the receiving substantially simulates pumping placement conditions the cement will be subjected to in use. In certain embodiments, the cement can be conditioned in a conditioning vessel while applying specified temperature and/or pressure to the cement. In certain embodiments, the temperature and/or pressure applied in the conditioning substantially simulates anticipated pumping placement conditions the cement will be subjected to in use.

Testing mechanical properties

A method of servicing a wellbore in a subterranean formation, comprising preparing a cement composition comprising water, a cementitious material, and a gas hydrate inhibitor, and placing the cement composition in the wellbore. Cements for use across formations containing gas hydrates

Cement compositions, that comprise water, a cement, a strength-retrogression additive, and an acid, wherein the acid comprises ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, or a combination thereof, are provided. Well fluids and methods of use in subterranean formations

Apparatus and methods for determining suitable displacement fluids for use in subterranean cementing operations, and methods of cementing that use such displacement fluids, are provided. Examples of apparatus include apparatus for evaluating fluids. An example of a system is a system for inverting an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid in a well bore in a subterranean formation.

Apparatus and methods for improved fluid displacement in subterranean formations

Apparatus and methods for determining suitable displacement fluids for use in subterranean cementing operations, and methods of cementing that use such displacement fluids, are provided. Examples of methods include methods of water-wetting an annulus in a subterranean formation having an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid disposed on at least a portion of one or more surfaces of the annulus. Another example of a method is a method of using an inverter fluid in a subterranean formation that includes a tubular string disposed therein having an annular region adjacent the outer surface of the tubular string, at least part of the annular region having an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid on a surface thereof. Another example of a method of the present invention is a method of identifying an inverter fluid to use for inverting an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid in a subterranean formation.

The present invention relates to improved well fluids that include hollow particles, and to methods of using such improved well fluids in subterranean cementing operations. The present invention provides methods of cementing, methods of reducing annular pressure, and well fluid compositions. While the compositions and methods of the present invention are useful in a variety of subterranean applications, they may be particularly useful in deepwater offshore cementing operations.

Cement comprising barite, a process for preparing such cement, and methods of cementing in a subterranean formation or well bore using such cement are provided. The cement is prepared by introducing coarse barite to the cement, the course barite comprising particles having a particle size primarily greater than about 125 microns. The presence of the coarse barite in the cement causes the cement to have a relatively low viscosity. Introducing the barite to the cement also increases the density of the cement, thus rendering the cement capable of controlling high hydrostatic pressures in a well bore.

The current invention provides a method for enhancing the formation stability of water sensitive, reactive formations penetrated by a wellbore. The method of the current invention provides an accurate evaluation of the impact of cementing fluids on water sensitive, reactive formations and provides the ability to accurately formulate cementing fluids in order to enhance the stability of such formations. When necessary, the method of the current invention additionally provides for the application of an osmotic semi-permeable membrane to the face of the formation.
