In some aspects, the present disclosure provides methods, apparatuses, and systems for efficient thermal mitigation while maintaining wireless device performance on a primary component carrier (PCC). Embodiments described may include implementation of target transceiver module configurations, where bandwidth (e.g., PCC bands and secondary component carrier (SCC) bands) may be monitored by a wireless device based on intra-module target configurations and/or inter-module target configurations. An intra-module target configuration may include a target transceiver module monitoring both PCC bands and SCC bands. An inter-module target configuration may include or refer to a plurality of target transceiver modules together monitoring PCC bands and SCC bands. In scenarios where operating temperatures exceed temperature thresholds, target transceiver module configurations may be implemented to transition PCC bands, SCC bands, or both, from a PCC-resident transceiver module to another transceiver module to reduce the operating temperatures of concern. Various additional and alternative aspects are described herein.

Thermal mitigation in user equipment having multiple communication modules

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, via a first carrier associated with a first radio access technology, at least a first uplink grant from a base station. The UE may implement one or more backoff schemes. For example, the UE may transmit, using resources indicated by at least the first uplink grant, an uplink message based on a temperature of one or more components of the UE satisfying a threshold, the uplink message including a transport block (TB) indicating data, a buffer status report (BSR) associated with the data, one or more padding bytes different from the data, or any combination thereof. The UE may monitor for at least a second uplink grant from the base station during a first time period based on transmitting the uplink message.

Techniques for shared channel backoff procedures in wireless communications systems

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit assistance information to a base station to request an update or a modification to one or more communication parameters configured at the UE. Such communication parameters may include a quantity of uplink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) layers, a quantity of downlink MIMO layers, a minimum scheduling offset, a maximum quantity of component carriers, or a maximum aggregated bandwidth for a secondary cell group (SCG). In some implementations, the UE may transmit the assistance information requesting the update or modification to one or more of such communication parameters based on detecting that the UE satisfies one or more triggering conditions or thresholds.

Techniques for providing assistance information for reduced MIMO layers

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques that may help mitigate service loss for a UE (e.g., in DSDA mode) due to temperature rise. According to certain aspects, a UE detects, while operating in a multi subscriber identity module (SIM) mode with at least a first subscriber (SUB) and a second subscriber (SUB) active on a first radio access technology (RAT), that the UE has reached a first temperature threshold less than a second temperature threshold at which the UE limits service in the first RAT and greater than a third temperature threshold associated with a temperature mitigation level. The UE then takes action to move the first SUB to a second RAT in response to the detecting.

Mitigating limited service in multi-sim mode due to temperature rise

Systems and methods providing antenna element feed path component management for facilitating millimeter wave communication are described. Embodiments can enable and provide mitigation of thermal, power consumption, and/or maximum permissible exposure issues with respect to millimeter wave communication, such as by 5generation (5G) or new radio (NR) compliant user equipment. Accordingly, embodiments are configured to manage transceiver antenna element feed path components to mitigate thermal, power consumption, and/or MPE concerns. For example, a communication device configured in accordance with concepts herein may reduce or otherwise control temperatures of various components, device power consumption, and/or user exposure to millimeter wave energy, such as to improve user experience, avoid component failure, extend battery life, etc.

In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) may receive an uplink (UL) grant (e.g., dynamic UL grant, UL configured grant (CG)) from a network, but may decide to skip the UL grant altogether or not transmit any user plane data on the UL grant. In such instances, the UE may maintain or expedite expiration associated with one or more timers (e.g., discontinuous reception (DRX) and bandwidth part (BWP) inactivity timers, secondary cell (SCell) deactivation timer, etc.). The UE may also maintain or expedite expiration associated with one or more timers if it receives downlink (DL) transmission (e.g., DL semi-persistent scheduling (SPS)) from the network that includes no user plane data.

Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) may partially disable transmissions on a transmission port based on a temperature condition (e.g., chipset temperature or skin temperature exceeding threshold). In a further aspect, the UE may enable the partially disabled transmissions on the transmission port in response to cessation of the temperature condition. In a further aspect, the UE may transmit a capability indication to a base station that indicates that the UE is capable of supporting a transition from a multi-layer (rank-2) communication mode to a single-layer (rank-1) communication mode.

A UE may, responsive to detecting a power-related condition, send a message to induce the master node to release the secondary node. Such a message can include a message reporting a radio link failure of the secondary node, or, if a channel quality indicator is configured for at least some of the secondary cells of the secondary node, reporting a low CQI value so that the network can cease scheduling on such cells. Alternatively, in a carrier aggregation (CA) mode, with the UE connected to a single node comprising a primary cell and one or more secondary cells, the UE may not control which and how many secondary cells with which it communicates. In such a scenario, if such secondary cells are configured for channel quality indicator reporting, the UE may report a low CQI value so that the node will cease scheduling data on such cells.

Power management for a user equipment in a multi-radio connectivity mode or carrier aggregation mode

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a first configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a set of receive ports. The UE may transmit, according to the first configuration in a first time interval associated with a first power state of the UE, sounding reference signals (SRSs) on a set of transmit ports corresponding to the set of receive ports. The UE may then communicate using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs based on determining to operate in a reduced power state. The UE may then receive, based on communicating using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs, a second configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a first subset of receive ports.

Techniques for thermal mitigation and power saving

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a wake up time period corresponding to a wake up cycle, transmit a message that includes an identifier of the UE within a first resource pool during a first portion of the wake up time period based on the wake up cycle, and monitor for a paging signal from a vehicle UE during a paging occasion of the wake up time period based on transmitting the message. A vehicle UE may identify a wake up configuration for a wake up time period, receive, within a first portion of the wake up time period, a message within a resource pool that includes the identifier of the UE. The vehicle UE may transmit a paging signal within a paging occasion of the wake up time period.

Power enhancement techniques for vehicle-to-pedestrian wireless communication systems

User equipment (UE) may benefit from power management techniques, for example, in the context of cellular vehicle-to-everything (CV2X) communication. In various aspects of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE configured to determine whether a first subframe includes at least one sub-channel carrying information intended for the UE, receive the information via at least one receive (Rx) chain associated with the at least one sub-channel when the information intended for the UE is carried on the at least one sub-channel included in the first subframe, and deactivate the at least one Rx chain associated with the at least one sub-channel based on whether the information intended for the UE is absent from the at least one sub-channel included in the first subframe.

System and method for power management based on subframe content

Modem thermal management may include a state machine monitoring a temperature associated with a modem, setting a mode in response to detection of a change in the temperature with respect to a threshold, and applying a set of one or more thermal mitigation actions associated with a current state of the state machine. The state machine may set a timer in response to detection of the change in temperature and then transition from the current state to another state in response to expiration of the timer. The monitored temperature may be a junction temperature or a skin temperature.

Modem thermal management

Methods and systems for controlling a portable computing device ('PCD') are disclosed. In an example method, an always on processor (AoP) of a voice recognition module of the PCD receives a voice command. The AoP determines, without decoding the received voice command, that the received voice command corresponds to a previously determined keyword. The AoP retrieves context data associated with the previously determined keyword. The AoP acts on the voice command using the context data, including in some embodiments automatically triggering a fast dormancy of a communications channel.
