A device including an implantable assembly. The assembly includes a bone fixture configured to anchor to bone of a recipient, and a vibratory apparatus configured to be completely implanted beneath the skin of a recipient, wherein the implantable assembly is configured such that the vibratory apparatus can move relative to the bone fixture while implanted in a recipient.

Flexible connection bone conduction device

An electrode array () which is able to be inserted to a desired depth within the cochlea to provide useful percepts for the recipient which will also preferably not cause damage to the sensitive structures of the cochlea. The electrode array () is insertable through an opening in the cochlea and into at least the basal region of the cochlea and comprises an elongate carrier () having a proximal end, a distal end, and a plurality of electrodes () supported by the carrier at respective spaced locations thereon in a region between the proximal end and the distal end. A stabilizing collar () extends outwardly from the elongate carrier () at or adjacent a proximal end thereof and has an abutment surface adapted to abut a portion of the cochlea surface around the cochleostomy and at least substantially prevent movement of the carrier () following completion of insertion of the array () into the cochlea.

Cochlear implant system component having multiple electrode assemblies

The sound processor and method uses a model of basilar membrane motion to select stimuli, based upon the predicted motion which the acoustic signal presented would produce in an acoustically excited normally hearing cochlea. The filter; used, in contrast to single channel per electrode approaches, cover multiple channels and overlap with each other. Consequently the stimuli presented produce a neural excitation pattern which approximates the spatio-temporal travelling wave observed on the basilar membrane in an acoustically excited normally hearing cochlea. Preferably, the predicted electrode stimuli are based upon the instantaneous predicted amplitude of the electrode location.

Sound processor for a cochlear implant

An implantable apparatus for delivering electrical stimuli to a user, the apparatus including at least a stimulator adapted to generate stimulation signals, an electrode array, said array including a plurality of electrodes for delivering said stimulation signals; and a plurality of release sites for pharmaceutical agents, said release sites being positioned at locations along said array, said release sites being controlled such that said agents can be operatively delivered at selected ones of said locations.

Stimulating device

A stimulating medical device comprising a stimulating assembly implantable proximate to nerve cells of a recipient having at least one agent delivery port and a plurality of electrical contacts; an electrical stimulation controller configured to generate electrical stimulation signals for application to a first population of the nerve cells via one or more of the plurality of electrical contacts; a pharmaceutical agent source configured to provide a pharmaceutical agent to the at least one delivery port for application to a second population of the nerve cells; and a pharmaceutical agent controller configured to control one or more of the pharmaceutical agent source and the at least one delivery port to cause selective application of the pharmaceutical agent to the second population of nerve cells.

Pharmaceutical agent delivery in a stimulating medical device

An implantable stimulation device is disclosed which provides for reduced power consumption when compared with bipolar stimulation and better stimulation performance when compared with monopolar stimulation. Implantable stimulator devices use less power in monopolar stimulation mode than that of bipolar stimulation but stimulation performance is greater when using bipolar stimulation. The device comprises circuitry capable of simultaneous stimulation between a reference electrode and an electrode of a stimulation array and between electrodes of the stimulation array, the ratio of current to the reference electrode and array electrodes being selectable.

Implant stimulation device

A neural-stimulating device for stimulating nerve cells of a recipient is provided. The neural-stimulating device comprises an electromagnetic radiation source configured to generate one or more optical stimulation signals and an electrical stimulation generator configured to generate electrical stimulation signals. The neural-stimulating device also comprises an implantable stimulating assembly configured to be implanted in the recipient, and having disposed thereon an optical contact to deliver the one or more optical stimulation signals to the nerve cells, and an electrical contact to deliver the electric stimulation signals to the nerve cells.

Combined optical and electrical neural stimulation

An embodiment of the present invention takes masking effects into consideration when determining stimulation signals for neural stimulation. These masking effects may be modeled using user-specific models determined by taking measurements for an implant system of an implant recipient. Or, the model may correspond to a group of individuals sharing a common characteristic or the population as a whole. These models may be, for example, psycho-physical models.

Determining stimulation signals for neural stimulation

A method and apparatus for detecting an envelope of an audio signal, and a method and apparatus for enhancing the pitch cue of an audio signal perceived by a cochlear implant patient where the audio signal is processed and input to an implant device of the recipient. The methods and apparatuses use techniques such as filtering, rectifying, detecting peak values, sampling, resetting, comparing and multiplying various signals to detect the envelope or enhance the pitch cue of the audio signal.

Compressed neural coding

An electrode array that is implantable within the inferior colliculus of the midbrain and/or other appropriate regions of the brain of an implantee and adapted to provide electrical stimulation thereto. The electrode array an elongate member having a plurality of electrodes mounted thereon in a longitudinal array. A delivery cannula for delivering the electrode array comprised of two half-pipes is also described.

Auditory midbrain implant

A method and device are disclosed for neural stimulation with improved power consumption and/or effectiveness. The stimulus generator is arranged, for example via a look up table, to recognize proposed stimuli which will be masked by earlier or simultaneous stimuli. A sphincteric control system for controlling the function of a bodily organ, such as the bladder. The system comprises a first implanted sphincter () disposed about a portion of the bodily organ, a second implanted sphincter () disposed about a portion of the bodily organ, and a stimulator unit () that is adapted to apply electrical stimulation to each of the first and second implanted sphincters.
