A stage tool for wellbore annular cementing may be opened for cementing by hydraulic actuation of a sliding sleeve valve from over a fluid port. After sufficient cement has been introduced, the stage tool fluid port can be closed by compressing two telescopically arranged parts of its tubular body to further overlap each other and overlie the fluid port. This permits the stage tool to be closed without employing a plug.

Stage tool for wellbore cementing

A method for fluid treatment of a borehole including a main wellbore, a first wellbore leg extending from the main wellbore and a second wellbore leg extending from the main wellbore, the method includes: running a wellbore tubing string apparatus into the first wellbore leg; conveying a plug into the wellbore tubing string apparatus to actuate a plug-actuated sleeve in the wellbore tubing string apparatus to open a port through the wall of the wellbore tubing string apparatus covered by the sleeve; employing a plug retainer to retain the plug in the tubing string against passing outwardly from the tubing string apparatus; allowing fluids to flow toward surface outwardly from the tubing string apparatus; and performing operations in the second wellbore leg.

Plug retainer and method for wellbore fluid treatment

A wellbore tool, a wellbore fluid treatment string and a method with an indexing mechanism including a crown ratchet sleeve. The indexing mechanism can be shifted through one or more inactive positions before finally shifting into an active condition. The indexing mechanism is particularly useful with a plug that lands in a seat to impart an axially directed force on the mechanism before passing through the seat.

A wellbore treatment apparatus includes: a tubing string including a wall defining an inner diameter and a port extending through the wall, the port closed by a closure including a plug-actuated sliding sleeve; and a port opening apparatus including a wireline deployable through the inner diameter of the tubing string to extend to a position adjacent the plug-actuated sliding sleeve and an actuator plug carried on and axially slideable along the wireline, the actuator plug sized to land in the plug-actuated sliding sleeve to actuate the plug-actuated sliding sleeve, while remaining on the wireline. The apparatus can be employed in a method by running the tubing string into a well, placing the slickline in the string and running the actuator plug along the wireline to land on and actuate a sleeve in the string.

Wireline conveyed apparatus for wellbore fluid treatment

A drilling assembly and a method for directional drilling using the drilling assembly. The drilling assembly comprises a drilling bit, a near bit stabilizer and an adjustable gauge stabilizer. The near bit stabilizer is located a first axial distance from a distal end of the drilling assembly and has a near bit stabilizer gauge which is greater than a nominal drilling assembly gauge. The adjustable gauge stabilizer is located a second axial distance from the distal end, which is greater than the first axial distance, and is adjustable between an extended and retracted gauge. The retracted gauge is less than the near bit stabilizer gauge. A bit drop angle is created between the drilling assembly and the drilling bit, while a stabilizer angle is created between the near bit stabilizer and the adjustable gauge stabilizer. The combination of the bit drop angle and the stabilizer angle results in a net build angle of the drilling assembly, when the adjustable gauge stabilizer is adjusted to the retracted gauge, and a net drop angle when adjusted to the extended gauge.

Pneumatic hammer drilling assembly for use in directional drilling

An improved drilling assembly of the type comprising a fluid driven motor, a driveshaft operatively connected with the motor, a housing for enclosing the driveshaft and an annular flow passage defined between the driveshaft and the housing for circulating drive fluid therethrough. The improvement comprises a drive fluid flow restrictor device comprising a constricted section in the annular flow passage, an expanded section in the annular flow passage and a valve member positioned in the annular flow passage. The valve member is movable axially in the annular flow passage between the constricted section and the expanded section to define a flow restricting position and a normal flow position When the valve member is in the flow restricting position the circulation of drive fluid through the annular flow passage is restricted. When the valve member is in the normal flow position the circulation of drive fluid through the annular flow passage is relatively unrestricted.

Flow restrictor valve for a downhole drilling assembly

An apparatus and method for directing a first and a second object into a primary and a secondary borehole respectively from a main borehole communicating therewith at a borehole junction. The apparatus includes a deflector for positioning at the borehole junction to direct the first and second objects into the primary and secondary boreholes. A retainer holds the objects relative to each other such that when the first object is aligned to be directed into the primary borehole, the second object is aligned to be directed into the secondary borehole. A retainer orienting mechanism orients the retainer relative to the borehole junction so that the objects are aligned to be directed into the boreholes. The method includes positioning the deflector at the borehole junction and inserting the objects and the retainer into the main borehole. The retainer is oriented relative to the borehole junction so that the objects are aligned to be directed into their respective boreholes. The objects are then directed into the boreholes by bringing them into contact with the deflector.
