A technique is provided for receiving a resource request by a first base station (BS) of a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) from one or more user devices, selecting resources, from a group of resources shared by BSs of a plurality of different RATs, to be scheduled for the one or more requesting user devices, scheduling, by the first BS, the selected resources for the one or more user devices, and sending, from the first BS, a resource scheduling announcement identifying the scheduled resources to one or more other BSs including at least a second BS of a second RAT. Another example technique may include receiving a resource scheduling request from a first base station (BS) implementing a first RAT, confirming an availability of the requested resources, and sending a first resource scheduling announcement to one or more BSs implementing other RATs.

Techniques for multi-RAT (radio access technology) coordinated resource sharing

A method includes configuring user equipment to support use of one or more carriers for authorized shared access. The configuring is performed to emphasize use of a first set of a plurality of carriers over use of a second set of the plurality of carriers. The second set comprises the one or more carriers for authorized shared access. The method also includes communicating with the user equipment using the first and second sets of carriers. Apparatus, computer programs, and program products are also disclosed.

A method for coordinating spectrum evacuation is described which is useful for spectrum sharing, authorized/licensed shared access, secondary access, dynamic spectrum access, cognitive radio, general authorized access, etc. whereby access to a spectrum can be increased via buying usage right from a higher priority, primary or incumbent user, and/or via opportunistic access to unoccupied/unused spectrum. Enabling efficient spectrum evacuation guarantees limited impact to system performance while ensuring that the other user gets the spectrum back when needed. The method includes selecting a first subset of UEs for transitioning from a first bandwidth to a second bandwidth. During a first time period, the method includes, for each UE in the first subset, instructing the UE to transition using dedicated signaling. Later, during a second time period, the method includes instructing a second subset of UEs to transition using broadcast signaling. Apparatus and computer readable media are also disclosed.

A method of selecting an RF gain of an automatic gain control amplifier includes the steps of measuring a strength of a received signal, the signal reliable and consistent power characteristics, and then measuring an interference level of the received signal, and determining either a target output power level or a target output interference power level based on a ratio of the measured signal strength to the measured interference level. The method also includes determining a gain that, when applied to an incoming signal, will produce a corresponding one of the determined target output power level and the determined target output interference power level.

A system and method for minimizing inter-communications system mobile-to-mobile station interference includes a plurality of base stations (BS A and BS B) and a plurality of mobile stations (MS A and MS B) each communicating with a base station using a first mode of communication. A first mobile station (MS A) sends a message using a second mode of communication upon detecting interference with another mobile station (MS B) to determine the source of the interference. Once determined, the first mobile station (MS A) communicates with its base station (BS A) which, in turn, communicates with the second mobile station's base station (BS B) using a back haul network. The second mobile station's base station (BS B) may then instruct the second mobile station (MS B) to alter its transmission characteristics based upon instructions from the second base station (BS B) in order to reduce interference and improve overall communications quality.

There is provided a method of digital Automatic Gain Control (AGC) in a receiver having limited dynamic range, particularly for discontinuous signals. The method comprises detecting the level of a received and AGC'd discontinuous signal, comparing the level of the AGC'd signal relative to the dynamic range of the receiver, and adjusting the AGC to establish a desired relationship between the AGC'd signal and the dynamic range limitation. There is also provided a method of handoff in a TDMA cellular-type transmission system utilizing this method of AGControl. The method for Automatic Gain Control (AGC) of discontinuous signals in a receiver having limited dynamic range is further characterized by: digitizing a received and AGC'd discontinuous signal and converting the digitized samples to a power sample to sense the power of and detect the level of the signal, comparing the level of the AGC'd signal relative to the dynamic range of the receiver; and coarsely-adjusting by either progressively attenuating the signal until it falls within the dynamic range of the receiver or by progressively gain-amplifying the signal until it falls within the limited dynamic range of the receiver and finely-adjusting the AGC of the received signal until optimum use of the full (albeit limited) dynamic range of the signal processing stages is about 6-12 dB below maximum sensitivity to establish a desired relationship between the AGC'd signal and the dynamic range limitation.

There is provided a method of and apparatus for Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) of pure sine waves (PSW). It comprises discriminating to detect frequency differences between a received pure sine wave and a reference frequency, integrating the frequency differences to average the differences, and adjusting the reference frequency to eliminate the frequency difference. It is further characterized by digitizing, in quadrature, the received pure sine wave, mixing the received pure sine wave with a complex sinusoid to translate the pure sine wave to baseband, quadrature filtering the mixed sine wave, cross-product discriminating to detect frequency differences between a received pure sine wave and a reference frequency, integrating the frequency differences to average the differences, selectively calculating the mean variance between the pure sine wave and the reference frequency, and adjusting the reference frequency of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator to eliminate the frequency difference.
