A color/color temperature tunable light emitting device comprises: an excitation source (LED) operable to generate light of a first wavelength range and a wavelength converting component comprising a phosphor material which is operable to convert at least a part of the light into light of a second wavelength range. Light emitted by the device comprises the combined light of the first and second wavelength ranges. The wavelength converting component has a wavelength converting property (phosphor material concentration per unit area) that varies spatially. The color of light generated by the source is tunable by relative movement of the wavelength converting component and excitation source such that the light of the first wavelength range is incident on a different part of the wavelength converting component and the generated light comprises different relative proportions of light of the first and second wavelength ranges.

A light emitting device includes a radiation source operable to generate and radiate excitation energy, the source being configured to irradiate a wavelength conversion component with excitation energy and the wavelength conversion component comprising a layer of photo-luminescent material configured to emit radiation of a selected color when irradiated by the radiation source and a color enhancement filter layer configured to filter undesirable wavelengths of an emission product of the layer of photo-luminescent material to establish a final emission product for the light emitting device.

Light emitting device utilizing remote wavelength conversion with improved color characteristics

A composition for the fabrication of reflective features using a direct-write tool is disclosed. The composition comprises metal nanoparticles having an average particle size less than 300 nm and which carry thereon a polymer for substantially preventing agglomeration of the nanoparticles, wherein the nanoparticles exhibit a metal-polymer weight ratio of 100:1 to 10:1. The composition further includes a vehicle for forming a dispersion with the metal nanoparticles. A number of electronic devices comprising a reflective layer formed from the composition are also disclosed. One example case provides an electronic device having a reflective electrode. The reflective electrode comprises a percolation network of the metal nanoparticles embedded in a matrix of the polymer and having an average particle size of less than 300 nm, wherein the reflective electrode is reflective in the visible light range and does not diffract incident light.

A light emitting sign comprising a plurality of blue LEDs operable to generate blue excitation light and a light emitting display surface comprising a light transmissive substrate and at least one phosphor overlaying at least a portion of one face of the substrate. The phosphor is configured to absorb at least a portion of the blue light generated by the LEDs and, in response, to emit light of a selected color other than blue. Regions of the display surface intended to generate blue light do not include the phosphor.

A light emitting device comprises at least one solid-state light source (LED) operable to generate excitation light and a wavelength conversion component located remotely to the at least one source and operable to convert at least a portion of the excitation light to light of a different wavelength. The wavelength conversion component has at least one photoluminescence material and a light scattering material, where the light scattering material has an average particle size that is selected such that the light scattering material will scatter excitation light from a radiation source relatively more than the light scattering material will scatter light generated by the photoluminescence material.

A light emitting device comprises at least one solid-state light source (LED) operable to generate excitation light and a wavelength conversion component located remotely to the at least one source and operable to convert at least a portion of the excitation light to light of a different wavelength. The wavelength conversion component includes a light transmissive substrate having a wavelength conversion layer comprising particles of at least one photoluminescence material and a light diffusing layer comprising particles of a light diffractive material. This approach of using the light diffusing layer in combination with the wavelength conversion layer solves the problem of variations or non-uniformities in the color of emitted light with emission angle.

A light source comprises a blue emitting LED operable to generate blue excitation light and a light emitting surface comprising a light transmissive substrate and a phosphor. The LED is configured to irradiate the light emitting surface with excitation light such that the phosphor emits light of a second wavelength and wherein light emitted by the source comprises a combination of blue light from the LED and the second wavelength light from the phosphor. The light emitting surface is interchangeable thereby enabling the source to generate different selected colors of light using the same LED. The phosphor can be provided as a layer on the substrate or incorporated within the light transmissive substrate. The light emitting surface can be configured as a waveguide or as a light transmissive window.

A metal nanoparticle composition for the fabrication of conductive features. The metal nanoparticle composition advantageously has a low viscosity permitting deposition of the composition by direct-write tools. The metal nanoparticle composition advantageously also has a low conversion temperature, permitting its deposition and conversion to an electrical feature on polymeric substrates.

Provided is an aerosol method, and accompanying apparatus, for preparing powdered products of a variety of materials involving the use of an ultrasonic aerosol generator including a plurality of ultrasonic transducers underlying and ultrasonically energizing a reservoir of liquid feed which forms droplets of the aerosol. Carrier gas is delivered to different portions of the reservoir by a plurality of gas delivery ports delivering gas from a gas delivery system. The aerosol is pyrolyzed to form particles, which are then cooled and collected. The invention also provides powders made by the method and devices made using the powders.

Forming conductive features of electronic devices

A light emitting sign comprising a light box housing a plurality of blue LEDs operable to generate blue excitation light and a light emitting display surface overlaying the light box opening. The light emitting display surface comprises a light transmissive substrate configured as a light transmissive window such that light generated by the sign is emitted from the substrate and a phosphor overlaying at least a portion of one face of the substrate. The phosphor is configured to absorb at least a portion of the blue light generated by the LEDs and, in response, to emit light of a selected color.

Reflective, low-cost display pixels and displays incorporating magneto-optical elements wherein an externally applied magnetic field is perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the magneto-optical elements and parallel to a viewing plane of a display made from these elements. The display elements have a restricted rotation about their long axis which can be actuated by an external magnetic field to produce a bistable, electronically writable image. In addition, architectural modifications to this arrangement can be made such that the power required to write the image to such a display is decreased, overall display efficiency is increased and cross-talk between pixels is nearly eliminated.
