A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX). The PX is coupled to a motor that controls an operating speed of the PX. The system further includes a condenser. An outlet of the condenser is fluidly coupled to a first inlet of the PX. The system further includes a pressure gauge. The pressure gauge is configured to provide first pressure data. The first pressure data is indicative of a pressure of a fluid of the condenser. The system further includes a first controller configured to cause the motor to adjust the operating speed of the PX. The first controller causes the motor to adjust the operating speed of the PX based on the first pressure data.

Control of refrigeration and heat pump systems that include pressure exchangers

A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX) including a housing and configured to exchange pressure between a first fluid and a second fluid. The system further includes a bearing valve fluidly coupled to the housing of the PX and configured to provide the first fluid to the housing. The system further includes a controller to cause a first adjustment of a first flowrate of the first fluid into the PX based on a target flowrate of first fluid into the PX and the first flowrate. The controller is further to cause a second adjustment of a second flowrate of the second fluid into the PX based on the first flowrate and the second flowrate.

Control of a pressure exchanger system

A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX), a first heat exchanger, and a second heat exchanger. The PX is configured to receive a first fluid and a second fluid, exchange pressure between the first fluid and the second fluid, and output the first fluid and the second fluid. The first heat exchanger is configured to receive the first fluid from a first gas cooler and the second fluid from a second gas cooler, exchange first heat between the first fluid and the second fluid, and output the first fluid and the second fluid. The second heat exchanger is configured to receive heat exchanger output from the first heat exchanger and evaporator output from an evaporator, exchange second heat between the heat exchanger output and the evaporator output, and provide the heat exchanger output to the PX and the evaporator output to the compressor.

Refrigeration and heat pump systems with pressure exchangers

A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX) configured to receive a first fluid at a first pressure and a second fluid at a second pressure and exchange pressure between the first fluid and the second fluid. The system further includes a condenser configured to provide corresponding thermal energy from the first fluid to a corresponding environment. The system further includes a first ejector to receive a first gas and increase pressure of the first gas to form the second fluid at the second pressure. The first ejector is further to provide the second fluid at the second pressure to the PX.

A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX) configured to receive a first fluid via a first inlet and a second fluid via a second inlet. The PX is to exchange pressure between the first fluid and the second fluid and provide the first fluid at a first outlet and the second fluid at a second outlet. The system further includes a first sensor to provide first sensor data associated with the first fluid prior to the first fluid entering the first inlet and a second sensor to provide second sensor data associated with the second fluid prior to the second fluid entering the second inlet. A system includes an isobaric pressure exchanger (IPX) configured to exchange pressure between a first fluid and a second fluid. The IPX includes a rotor configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis of the rotor. The rotor forms rotor ports arranged substantially symmetrically around the longitudinal axis at a distal end of the rotor. The IPX further includes an end cover configured to be disposed at the first distal end of the rotor. The end cover forms end cover ports. The rotor ports are arranged for hydraulic communication with the end cover ports. The IPX further includes an insert disposed between two of the rotor ports or between two of the end cover ports.

Pressure exchanger inserts

A fluid handling system includes a pressure exchanger (PX) configured to receive a first fluid at a first pressure and a second fluid at a second pressure and exchange pressure between the first fluid and the second fluid. The system further includes a condenser configured to provide corresponding thermal energy from the first fluid to a corresponding environment. The system further includes a receiver to receive the first fluid output by the PX. The receiver forms a chamber to separate the first fluid into a first gas and a first liquid. The system further includes a first booster to increase pressure of a portion of the first gas to form the second fluid at the second pressure and provide the second fluid at the second pressure to the PX.

A system includes a pressure exchanger (PX). The PX is coupled to a motor that controls an operating speed of the PX. The system further includes a first pressure gauge configured to generate first pressure data indicative of a pressure of a fluid of a condenser. A first controller is to generate a first control signal based on the first pressure data. The motor of the PX is configured to adjust the operating speed of the PX based on the first control signal. The system further includes a pump. The system further includes a fluid density sensor for generating fluid density data associated with a first output fluid of the PX. A second controller is to generate a second control signal based on at least the fluid density data. The pump is to adjust an operating speed of the pump based on the second control signal.

A system includes a mud return system. The mud return system includes a pressure exchanger (PX) configured to be installed in a body of water, to receive used drilling mud, to receive a second fluid, to utilize the second fluid to pressurize the drilling mud for transport, via a mud return line, from a first location at or near the sea floor to a second location at or near a surface of the body of water.
