In an embodiment, a method for making an infrared radiation absorbing coating mixture comprises: forming an ITO coating mixture comprising ITO and a first coating matrix, wherein the first coating matrix comprises the partial condensate of a silanol, wherein the ITO coating mixture is free of colloidal silica; forming a colloidal silica coating mixture comprising colloidal silica and a second coating matrix, wherein the second coating matrix comprises the partial condensate of a silanol; and mixing the ITO coating mixture with the colloidal silica coating mixture to form a combined mixture. The combined mixture does not comprise a precipitate visible to the unaided eye after 2 weeks without stirring.

Infrared radiation absorbing articles and method of manufacture

An organic x-ray detector is presented. The organic x-ray detector includes a layered structure. The layered structure includes a thin-film transistor (TFT) array disposed on a substrate, an organic photodiode disposed on the TFT array, and a scintillator layer disposed on the organic photodiode. The organic x-ray detector further includes an encapsulation cover at least partially encapsulating the layered structure; and an oxygen getter layer disposed between the organic photodiode and the encapsulation cover, wherein the oxygen getter layer includes an ether-containing material. X-ray system including the organic x-ray detector is also presented.

In one of its aspects the invention is directed to rubber modified thermoplastic resin compositions comprising discontinuous elastomeric phase particles derived from a unitary rubber substrate having at least a bimodal particle size distribution, wherein the elastomeric phase particles comprise a polymer having structural units derived from at least one (C-C)alkyl(meth)acrylate monomer and are dispersed in a rigid thermoplastic phase, wherein at least a portion of the rigid thermoplastic phase is grafted as a shell to elastomeric phase core particles, and wherein the rigid thermoplastic phase comprises structural units derived from at least one vinyl aromatic monomer, at least one monoethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer and at least one (C-C)alkyl- or aryl-(meth)acrylate monomer. In another aspect the rigid thermoplastic phase of the compositions comprises a first thermoplastic phase at least a portion of which is grafted to the elastomeric phase; and a second thermoplastic phase comprising a polymer prepared separately in the absence of elastomeric phase and added to the composition.

Impact-modified compositions

An optoelectronic device assembly can include: a coated element and an optoelectronic device on the coated element. The coated element can include a thermoplastic substrate and a protective weathering layer. The thermoplastic substrate can include a bisphenol-A polycarbonate homopolymer and a polycarbonate copolymer, and wherein the polycarbonate copolymer is selected from a copolymer of tetrabromobisphenol A carbonate and BPA carbonate; a copolymer of 2-phenyl-3,3-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)phthalimidine carbonate and BPA carbonate; a copolymer of 4,4'-(1-phenylethylidene) biphenol carbonate and BPA carbonate; a copolymer of 4,4&#x2032;-(1-methylethylidene) bis[2,6-dimethyl-phenol]carbonate and BPA carbonate; and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing. The protective weathering layer can include resorcinol polyarylate and polycarbonate.

Optoelectronic devices and coatings therefore

In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a method for recording holographic data in an optical data storage medium is provided. The method includes (i) providing an optical data storage medium including: (a) a thermoplastic polymer matrix, (b) a latent acid generator, (c) a non-linear sensitizer, and (d) a reactant including a latent chromophore. The method further includes (ii) irradiating a volume element of the optical data storage medium with an interference pattern, said interference pattern including an incident radiation having a wavelength and an intensity sufficient to cause upper triplet energy transfer from the non-linear sensitizer to the latent acid generator, thereby generating an acid, wherein the latent acid generator is substantially non-responsive to said incident radiation. The method furthermore includes (iii) reacting at least one protected chromophore with the acid generated to form at least one chromophore, thereby causing a refractive index change within the volume element; and (iv) producing within the irradiated volume element refractive index variations corresponding to the interference pattern, thereby producing an optically readable datum. An optical data storage medium is also provided.

Method of recording data in an optical data storage medium and an optical data storage medium

A thermosetting polymer material capable of being used in powder coatings. The thermosetting polymer material includes at least one hydroxyl functional aliphatic polycarbonates that is formulated and crosslinked with isocyanates to yield a thermoset organic coating material. These materials provide improved weatherability as compared to prior art powder coating materials while also being less expensive than prior art materials utilizing fluorinated polymers.

Aliphatic polycarbonates for use in thermosetting powder coatings

An optoelectronic device assembly can include: a coated element and an electroactive cell on the coated element, wherein the electroactive cell is selected from the group consisting of a light emitting diode and a photovoltaic cell. The coated element can include: transparent thermoplastic substrate and a protective weathering layer. The transparent thermoplastic substrate can include a material selected from the group consisting of aromatic polycarbonate and polyester, and combinations including at least one of the foregoing materials. The protective weathering layer can have a UV absorbance loss rate at 330 nm of less than or equal to 0.15 A/year as estimated from filtered xenon arc exposure and/or having a rate of erosion of less than or equal to 5 &#x3bc;m per year as estimated from filtered xenon arc exposure.

A sheet material includes a polycarbonate substrate and a protective coating containing the reaction products of an aminoplast resin, a polyol compound, and a UV-absorbing amount of a triazine compound. The sheet material exhibits an improved balance of abrasion resistance, solvent resistance, weatherability, and formability.

Coated sheet, method of formation thereof, and articles derived therefrom

In one aspect of the present invention, a UV-protective coating composition is described. The UV protective coating composition includes an acrylate polymer; and a non-crystallizing UV-absorber composition. The non-crystallizing UV absorber composition includes a dibenzoylresorcinol and at least one triazine compound. The dibenzoylresorcinol is present at a level in the range of from about 10 weight percent to about 25 weight percent, based on the total weight of the coating composition. Also provided is an article that includes the UV protective coating composition, and a method to protect the article.

Protective coating compositions and devices

Copolymers are disclosed comprising structural units derived from &#x3b1;-methylene-&#x3b3;-butyrolactone, styrene, methyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile. The copolymers may be used as protective layers in multilayer articles that include UV sensitive substrate materials. The multilayer articles may also include a silicone hardcoat.

Tulipalin copolymers

A sheet material includes a polycarbonate substrate and a protective coating containing the reaction products of an aminoplast resin, a polyol compound, and a UV-absorbing amount of a triazine compound. The sheet material exhibits an improved balance of abrasion resistance, solvent resistance, weatherability, and formability. Methods of preparing the sheet material are described.

Coated sheet, method of formation thereof, and article derived therefrom

A thermoplastic composition includes particular amounts of a poly(arylene ether), a hydrogenated block copolymer, a plasticizer, a white pigment, and an ultraviolet radiation stabilizer. The composition exhibits excellent light stability, and it is particularly useful for forming white or off-white cable insulation.

Poly(arylene ether) composition, method, and article

A thermoplastic composition includes particular amounts of a poly(arylene ether), a hydrogenated block copolymer, a copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefin, a plasticizer, a white pigment, and an ultraviolet radiation stabilizer. The composition exhibits excellent light stability, and it is particularly useful for forming white or off-white cable insulation.

Copolymers including structural units derived from &#x3b1;-methylene-&#x3b3;-butyrolactone, styrene, methyl methacrylate and, optionally, acrylonitrile, may be used as protective layers in multilayer articles that include UV sensitive substrate materials. The multilayer articles may also include a silicone hardcoat.
