A mobile data storage device () may be housed in a mobile computing device () without an active cooling feature. The mobile data storage device () can have at least a controller () configured to delay command execution in response to a predicted mobile data storage device () temperature. The controller () can insert a plurality of delays into a command queue to prevent the mobile data storage device () from reaching the predicted mobile data storage device () temperature.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium may include instructions that cause a system to perform operations, the operations may include receiving an operation associated with data and managing storage of the data on a first storage medium of an electronic device and in a cache on a second storage medium of the electronic device based on the operation and a cache policy. The cache policy may be based on one or more characteristics of the data that include a duration since a previous access of the data.

Electronic device data distribution

A mass data storage system includes a number of communicatively coupled storage drives powered by one or more power supplies. Shared control electronics selectively connect power and a data signal to a select storage drive via instructions within a control signal received by the common controller. Instructions for selectively powering and connecting the data signal are transmitted over a first signal path to a first controller of the shared electronics. Responsive to successful execution of the instructions, a drive access command is sent over a second different signal path to a second controller of the shared electronics.

Apparatus for retracting and extending sets of operational processing devices in a multi-device enclosure. In accordance with some embodiments, an enclosed housing is provided with opposing first and second ends. Sleds are individually movable between a retracted position within the enclosed housing and an extended position in which the sled projects from the first end. Each sled supports a group of processing devices. A control board is disposed within the enclosed housing adjacent the second end. A plurality of flex circuits contactingly engage the processing devices to provide communication paths between the processing devices and the control board in both the retracted and extended positions of the sleds.

Systems and methods are provided herein that can facilitate the managed reliability of data storage, including management of device remanufacturing and masking from an operating system a failure or predicted failure of a device running on a computer or a networked cluster of computers having access to the device. The systems and methods may facilitate removal of a device by coordinating among computers or controllers in a network cluster the logical removal of a device. At a later time, a coordinated logical re-introduction of the device to the systems or computers from which the device was logically removed can be performed. This can be accomplished via a virtualization system that may include a device function driver (DFD), a device virtualization bus driver (DVBD), and a device management service (DMS).

Managed reliability of data storage

Apparatus and method for maintaining processing devices at a nominally common temperature, such as but not limited to storage devices in a multi-device networked storage enclosure. In accordance with some embodiments, an enclosed housing has a first side adjacent a cold zone with a lower ambient temperature and an opposing second side adjacent a warm zone with a higher ambient temperature. First and second processing devices are arranged within the enclosed housing so that the first processing device is adjacent the cold zone and the second processing device is adjacent the warm zone. First and second thermal interface material (TIM) modules are contactingly affixed to the first and second devices and are provided with different heat conductivities so that the first and second devices are maintained at a nominally common operational temperature.
