An apparatus used in a method for generating an ear electroencephalogram (EEG) signal from an ear of a patient includes: a housing; a first electrode provided on a first portion of the housing received within an ear canal of the ear, such that the first electrode is disposed against a first surface of the ear canal to generate a first ear canal signal; a second electrode provided on a second portion of the housing structured to be received within a concha of the ear when the first portion is received within the ear canal, such that the second electrode is disposed against a surface of concha to generate a concha signal; and electronic circuitry provided within the housing, the electronic circuitry being structured and configured to generate a first in ear signal after receiving the first ear canal signal and the concha signal.

Electrode configuration to record ear electroencephalogram (EEG) during sleep and wakefulness

Provided is a portable controller and associated method that provides a patient or caregiver the ability to recharge and alter the parameters of an implanted medical device, while allowing the patient substantially unobstructed mobility. To enable mobility, the controller may be worn on a belt or clothing. The controller also allows the patient to turn device stimulation on and off, check battery status, and to vary stimulation parameters within ranges that may be predefined and programmed by a clinician. The controller communicates with the medical device to retrieve information and make parameter adjustments using wireless telemetry, and it can send and receive information from several feet away from the implanted medical device. Charging of a battery contained in the implanted medical device is achieved via an inductive radio frequency link using a charge coil placed in close proximity to the medical device.

Systems and methods for patient control of stimulation systems

An apparatus for replacing a damaged spinal disc in a spinal column includes a first retaining device having an outer surface engageable with a first vertebra of the spinal column and an inner surface. A second retaining device has an outer surface engageable with a second vertebra of the spinal column and an inner surface. A resilient core has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface engages the inner surface of the first retaining device. The second surface engages the inner surface of the second retaining device. The resilient core has a tapered radially outer surface extending from adjacent the first surface to adjacent the second surface. The first retaining device may have a flange extending toward the second retaining device. A concave surface may extend between the first surface and the radially outer surface. The concave surface of the core may engage the flange when the apparatus is free of a load.

Apparatus for replacing a damaged spinal disc

An apparatus for delivering an intraluminal prosthesis within a patient's body includes an inner sheath having longitudinally spaced proximal and distal inner sheath ends, and a nose cone connected to the distal inner sheath end. An intraluminal prosthesis sheath has longitudinally spaced proximal and distal intraluminal prosthesis sheath ends and a hollow intraluminal prosthesis sheath bore at least partially surrounding the inner sheath. A stopper is connected to the inner sheath at a location longitudinally spaced from the nose cone and extends radially between the inner sheath and the intraluminal prosthesis sheath. An annular intraluminal prosthesis space is defined radially between the intraluminal prosthesis sheath and the inner sheath and longitudinally between the stopper and the nose cone. A method for delivering an intraluminal prosthesis within a patient's body is also described.
