A self-cleaning collecting device for cleaning a dirty gas stream including a flow-through housing having a dirty gas inlet at the base of the housing and a clean gas outlet at the top of the housing interconnected by a gas treating passage adapted to direct a gas stream vertically through the housing. As the dirty gas stream enters the housing, it is circulated through a liquid bath where noxious vapors and larger particulates are entrained in a mist of liquid droplets which are in turn captured and removed from the gas stream as it moves through a separating panel positioned above the liquid bath. As the gas flows upwardly out of the panel, the captured liquid is circulated to the liquid bath to maintain a flow of liquid within the panel which acts to continuously wash the particulates from the panel. At the same time, the gas stream continues upwardly in the treating passage where it flows through an electrostatic precipitator which removes the smaller particulates from the gases prior to their being discharged from the housing through the gas outlet at the top of the housing.

An air volume control ventilation system which minimizes variation in air volume flowing through the system has a fan for drawing air through fixed-resistance filter means including a roll filter, an electrostatic filter, and a high efficiency filter; a variable-resistance volume control damper operated, when an actuator therefor is energized in opposite directions, to open and to close and thus vary the volume of air flowing through the system; and a differential static pressure switch connected across the fan and being provided with a normally open high limit set of contacts adapted to close and complete a circuit to open the damper when the differential pressure across the switch rises to a first predetermined limit and also a low limit set of normally open contacts adapted to close and complete a circuit to shut the damper when the differential pressure falls below a second predetermined limit, whereby the damper is alternately open and shut and the differential pressure across the fan is maintained within a narrow band between the first and second limits.

Air flow control system having minimum variation in volume

A collecting assembly for removing liquid vapors and particulates from a dirty gas stream including a housing having a dirty gas inlet and a clean gas outlet, a gas treating passage extending through the housing interconnecting the gas inlet and the gas outlet, a blower or fan adapted to draw the dirty gas stream into the housing through the gas inlet where it flows through an electrostatic precipitating section, and an oil spraying or fogging assembly adapted to periodically spray an atomized oil mist onto the discharge and collecting plates of an electrostatic collecting assembly mounted in the precipitating section to irrigate and wash accumulated particulates off the plates while continuing gas cleaning operations.

Electrostatic collecting assembly

An electrode plate arrangement for an electrostatic precipitator including a plurality of essentially identical plate assemblies secured in an opposing fashion to the opposite sides of a grid-like mounting frame extending across the interior of the precipitator. The plate assemblies on the upstream side of the frame include an ionizing zone for the dirty gas stream which feeds into serially aligned collecting zones in the opposing assemblies which in turn feed into a deionizing zone in the plate assemblies on the downstream side of the frame.

Plate electrode arrangement for an electrostatic precipitator

A mounting arrangement for securing electrode plate assemblies in an electrostatic precipitator. The arrangement includes an adjustable, grid-like mounting frame adapted to be secured across the interior of the precipitator housing and a pin and slot attachment arrangement for releasably securing each of the plate assemblies to the frame.
