Apparatus and method for utilizing commercial off the shelf circuit boards in a highly kinematic environment

A system and method for stabilizing a DIMM in a DIMM connector so as to reduce wear related electrical disconnections therebetween. A base is disposed between adjacent DIMM connectors and is coupled to the motherboard. A cap engages a top edge of a plurality of DIMMs and an adjustable force is applied to the top of the DIMMS by turning a screw which extends from the cap into the base.

DIMM/expansion card retention method for highly kinematic environments

The present invention is an apparatus and method for allowing for the use of commercial dual inline memory module (DIMM) in high shock and vibration environments while preserving serviceability. This system extends the performance of the standard Joint Electron Device Engineering (JEDEC) memory connectors in said environments without sacrificing high speed electrical performance. The system provides a simple clip which locks the module in place using the standard connector latches preventing relative motion of the connector and the DIMM thereby insuring uninterrupted computational performance. The clip may be formed with resilient ends that snap onto pivotal latching devices to prevent inadvertent opening of these latching devices. The clips may also include bumper spacers () on their opposite faces to engage bumper spacers of adjacent clips to maintain the modules in proper orientation.

System and method for retaining memory modules

A method of backlighting a flat panel display over an expanded dimming range includes providing a backlight including multiple cold cathode fluorescent lamps positionable directly behind a diffuser. Each of multiple drive circuits is adapted to independently adjust arc current of at least one of the multiple cold cathode fluorescent lamps in order to change the luminance output of the at least one of the cold cathode fluorescent lamps. Control signals are provided to each of the multiple drive circuits to separately control luminance output of different cold cathode fluorescent lamps such that at the same instant the different cold cathode fluorescent lamps are driven to substantially different luminance intensities, thereby allowing a reduction of an overall minimum luminance provided by the backlight and expanding the dimmable range of the backlight. A backlight implementing the methods of the invention is also disclosed.

Cold cathode backlight for avionics applications with strobe expanded dimming range

Disclosed are a flat panel display and a backlight which provides both night vision and day mode backlighting of the flat panel display. The backlight of the flat panel display includes a circuit card and day mode light emitting diodes (LEDs) positioned coplanar with each other on the circuit card. Night vision (NVIS) LEDs are positioned on the circuit card coplanar with the day mode LEDs. An optical wave-guide is positioned in front of the day mode LEDs and the NVIS LEDs and is adapted to distribute light from the day mode LEDs and from the NVIS LEDs forward away from the LEDs and the circuit card.
