A fluff pulp is provided, which comprises softwood fibers; and 3 to 35% by weight of hardwood fibers. A fluff is also provided, which comprises the fiberized or shredded fluff pulp. A core is also provided, which comprises the fluff and at least an SAP. Processes for making and using the fluff pulp, fluff, and core are provided, and products made thereby.

Fluff pulp and high SAP loaded core

A process is provided for making a fluff pulp sheet, comprising contacting at least one cationic trivalent metal, salt thereof, or combination thereof with a composition comprising fluff pulp fibers and water at a first pH, to form a first mixture; contacting at least one debonder surfactant with the first mixture and raising the pH to a second pH, which is higher than the first pH, to form a fluff pulp mixture; forming a web from the fluff pulp mixture; and drying the web, to make the fluff pulp sheet. A fluff pulp sheet is also provided, comprising a web comprising fluff pulp fibers; at least one cationic trivalent metal, salt thereof, or combination thereof; at least one debonder surfactant; and a fiberization energy of &#x3c;145 kJ/kg. Products and uses of the fluff pulp sheet are also provided.

Composition containing a cationic trivalent metal and debonder and methods of making and using the same to enhance fluff pulp quality

A process is provided for making a fluff pulp sheet, comprising forming a web comprising fluff pulp fibers; and applying at least one debonder surfactant to the web, to make the fluff pulp sheet. A fluff pulp sheet is also provided, comprising a web comprising fluff pulp fibers; at least one debonder surfactant; and a fiberization energy of &#x3c;145 kJ/kg. Products and uses of the fluff pulp sheet are also provided.

A multi-ply paper substrate is provided, which comprises at least two plies bonded to one another by an adhesive; a basis weight of 80-200 gsm; an internal bond of 10-180 milli-ft.-lb/sq. in. as measured by TAPPI method 541; an MD tensile of 20-300 lb/inch width as measured by TAPPI method 494; and a CD tensile of 10-300 lb/inch width as measured by TAPPI method 494. Fluff pulp and high sap loaded core

An improved processes for making fluff pulp sheets mechanically eliminates many of the unwanted fiber-to-fiber bonding (fiber bundles) which may be contained in the sheet to produce consistent and uniform quality fluff pulp. Pulp slurry is deposited on a moving bottom forming wire to form a stock web. Pulp slurry is brought into contact with a moving top forming wire. The stock web is subjected to up and down dewatering creating separately formed layers to reduce fiber-to-fiber bonding. The stock web can be subjected to strong pulsating shear forces as it is being advanced along the bottom forming wire to break a majority of fiber bundles contained in the web. The pulp slurry can be deposited on the bottom forming wire utilizing a headbox with dilution control to selectively adjust the concentration of the pulp slurry. A shoe press can be used to dewater the web after it is subjected to the pulsating shear forces. The web can be dried utilizing conventional drying equipment, such as cylindrical driers.

Methods and apparatus for forming fluff pulp sheets

A fluff pulp or other pulp, comprises a multivalent cationic metal ion selected from the group consisting of Al, B, Mn, Cu, Cu, Zn, Sn, Sn, water-soluble salt thereof, or combination thereof; an amine-containing anti-static agent; and pulp. A process in which an at least partially delignified pulp fiber web having a Kappa number of less than about 130 is treated with an aqueous endothermic fire retardant solution having a pH of about 10 or less. The treated pulp fiber web has a near neutral pH of from about 5 to about 9, and is treated with at least about 20 lbs of endothermic fire retardants per ton of the pulp fiber web, with at least about 5% of the total amount of endothermic fire retardants being added at a point prior to when the pulp fiber web is formed. Also a fire resistant pulp fiber web having a near neutral pH.

Addition of endothermic fire retardants to provide near neutral pH pulp fiber webs

A fire resistant fluff pulp web made from a fluff pulp web, a fire retardant component present in and/or on the fluff pulp, and a fire retardant distributing surfactant which distributes the fire retardant component in and/or on the fluff pulp web in a manner so that the fluff pulp web passes one or more fire resistance tests. Also, a process for preparing these fire resistant fluff pulp webs, as well as for treating outer fibrous layers comprising an air-laid mixture of these fire resistant fluff pulp fibers and bicomponent fibers with up to about 5% additional fire retardant and which are used in fire resistant air-laid fibrous structures useful in upholstery, cushions, mattress ticking, panel fabric, padding, bedding, insulation, materials for parts in devices and appliances, etc.

A fluff pulp sheet is also provided, comprising a web comprising fluff pulp fibers; at least one cationic dye; and at least one debonder surfactant. Products and uses of the fluff pulp sheet are also provided.
