A microfluidic product pouch assembly may be used in a microfluidic chip. The microfluidic product pouch may include a pouch surrounding an inner chamber and having a rupturing portion and an inner membrane positioned within the inner chamber. The inner membrane may separate the inner chamber into a first cavity and a second cavity. A reagent may be positioned within the first cavity and/or the second cavity. The microfluidic product pouch assembly may also include a rupturing structure. The rupturing structure may be configured to selectively break the rupturing portion of the microfluidic product pouch.

A liquid deposition system comprises a liquid delivery assembly including a dispensing probe having a sidewall including a first end having a liquid port and a second end having a tip, and a flow path opening at the tip and fluidly connected with the liquid port. The system includes a gas injection assembly with a manifold having a gas nozzle, a nozzle opening, and a gas port, the gas nozzle configured to eject a substantially laminar gas stream so that the gas stream travels through a travel path, the tip of the dispensing probe extending into the travel path. The liquid port is fluidly connectable with a liquid source and the gas port is fluidly connectable with a pressurized gas source, so that a liquid micro droplet is formed at the tip. The laminar gas stream separates the micro droplet from the tip and carries it through the travel path.

Non-contact micro droplet dispenser and method

A fluidic device and a method for degassing a fluidic device are presented. The fluidic device includes a plurality of fluidic components such as channels, chambers, and integrated valves and pumps, etc. A porous membrane is disposed on a degassing area of the fluidic device for removing gas (such as, for example, bubbles) contained in a liquid. A fluid control device monitors a pressure profile indicating a pressure in the fluidic device over time and applies a pressure differential between two sides of the membrane when activated. The membrane is permeable to gas in the fluidic device and is impermeable to liquids through the pores under the pressure differential. The disclosed method enables degassing large volume of gas at a high flow rate and provides a bubble free filling in a fluidic device which is critical to precision sample metering, mixing, fluid control, reaction, and detection, etc.

A sample port system/device associated with a fluid collection device is provided and is configured to receive fluid-containing devices of varying diameters. A method of improving the work flow and safety involved in acquiring and/or testing fluid samples using such sample port system/device is also provided.

The microfluidic distributing device has a fluid sample entry port from which subsamples of the fluid sample are distributed to the plurality of microchannels in which fluid subsamples are treated for analysis by test devices.

A reference electrode assembly having a constrained-diffusion liquid junction between a liquid junction solution and a sample solution having separate flow paths, said assembly comprising a flow cell having attached thereto a constraint comprising a region of porous material permeable to water and salts; a remote reservoir for holding said liquid junction solution; a means for moving said liquid junction solution from said reservoir to said constraint; and a reference contact region is provided. This unique configuration provides a reference electrode device of the constrained-diffusion liquid junction type useful in pH and/or ion-selective electrode (ISE) potentiometric sensors and is particularly suitable for use in a mini-integrated electrochemical analyzer.

The invention features a sample probe and reagent selector valve that enables selection among multiple functions of withdrawing a biological sample from a syringe or capillary into a fluid parameter sensor module, providing calibration and quality control reagents to the sensor module, and flowing a washing fluid through intake passages to prevent cross-contamination and clogging. The valve and sensor module are used in conjunction with an automated analytical instrument, such as an automated blood analyzer, to increase the speed of the analysis, minimize cross contamination between samples, and to overcome the inherent dangers of using the conventional needle/syringe or capillary methods of withdrawing fluids to be tested. The design of the valve provides performance benefits in the form of lower sample and reagent waste volumes, elimination of auxiliary valves and manifolds, and superior performance and reduced cost.

An analysis system for analyzing a biological fluid or the like for a constituent of the interest includes metal body structure with sample flow path channel structure that serially interconnects heater chamber structure, recess structure for receiving a reaction chamber cartridge and an analysis region to which a measuring system is coupled. The reaction chamber cartridge preferably includes reaction chamber structure with an immobilized enzyme in the reaction chamber that is capable of converting the constituent of interest to a constituent detectable by the measuring system. Cooperating with the metal body structure is a transparent face plate structure which permits visual observation of the sample flow path in the metal body structure. Thermally coupled to the metal body immediately adjacent the analysis region are a temperature sensor that provides a temperature signal to a control unit and a thermal source that receives control signals from the control unit as a function of signals from the temperature system for stabilizing the temperature of the metal body structure (including the reaction chamber structure, the heater chamber and the analysis region) at a desired analysis temperature.
