Lamp housing

A lamp () has a light source () with a distal portion () and a proximal portion (), the proximal portion () comprising a press seal () having a given cross-section. A lamp envelope () receives the light source (), the envelope () being arrayed about a longitudinal axis () and having a base () generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (). A clip-receiving aperture () is formed in the base (), and at least one clip locator surface () is formed in the base () adjacent the clip-receiving aperture (). A clip () is positioned in the clip-receiving aperture (), the clip having a passage () shaped and formed to receive the press seal () of the light source () therein. The clip () has at least one first retainer () and at least one second retainer (), the at least one first retainer () being shaped and formed to engage the at least one clip locator surface (), whereby the clip () is located within the clip-receiving aperture (). The at least one second retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the clip () to the base (), and at least one third retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the press seal () of the light source () within the clip ().

A package () for a bulb () having a bulbous, light-emitting end () and a socket end (), has a first thin-walled plastic body () arrayed along a longitudinal axis () and having a closed end () and an open end (), the open end () having a diameter D transverse to the longitudinal axis sufficient to admit insertion of the bulbous, light emitting end () of the bulb (), the closed end () of the first thin-walled plastic body () formed with at least one internal surface support () extending away from the longitudinal axis () in a plane transverse to the longitudinal axis and substantially contiguous with a curve of the bulbous light emitting end (), the open end () providing a circumferential coupling area (); and a second thin-walled plastic body () formed with a socket receiving end () and a mating coupling area () formed to conform to the circumferential coupling area () and coupled thereto. A safety switch for a lamp having an outer envelope with a light source capsule mounted therein. The lamp has a base for connection to an electrical circuit via a mating socket and has in-leads appropriately connected to the base and to the light source capsule whereby electrical power can be supplied to the light source. A fuse is operatively mounted to one of the in-leads in the base. The safety switch is mounted in the outer envelope and tensioned thereagainst whereby breakage of the outer envelope causes the safety switch to release and electrically contact the in-leads causing a short circuit and opening the fuse, thereby removing power from the capsule.

A single-ended tungsten halogen lamp having a tubular hardglass evenelope containing an inert gas and a halogen, preferably bromine. An improved halogen regenerative cycle in this type of lamp is achieved by minimizing the bromine and impurity attack on the tungsten filament, thus increasing lamp life over a wider application temperature range, through the use of a tantalum or zirconium getter which is in the form of a coil. This coil is particularly useful in small volume lamps, and in a preferred embodiment, is attached to the filament mounting structure (bridge) on the side thereof opposite the main filament body.

The invention provides a multi-step photo-process for disposing a definitive band of opaque conductive material on the sidewall portion of a CRT face panel. The process provides coating the panel with a photosensitive material and discretely exposing the viewing area and terminal region of the sidewall to polymerize the material thereon. The intermediate unexposed coating is removed, and at least the sidewall portion, coated with an opaque conductive material. The polymerized coatings are degraded and removed, leaving a precisely defined band of opaque conductive material on the panel sidewall, and making electrical contact with the aperture mask supporting studs embedded therein.
