A gas stream monitoring system including a low cost main stream gas analyzer system is disclosed herein. The low cost main stream gas analyzer system is calibrated by a side stream gas analyzer system included in the gas stream monitoring system. Once calibrated, the side stream system is placed into standby mode such that diversions of portions of the gas stream can be minimized. The calibrated output signals from the low cost main stream system contain corrections for gas interference, pressure change, temperature change, manufacturing tolerance, component flaws, and any other sources of error.

Low cost main stream gas analyzer system

A liquid and gas separator system is disclosed, the liquid and gas separator system includes an inlet that receives a first gas sample. The first gas sample at least partially includes liquid introduced from a patient in a gaseous or liquid form. The liquid and gas separator system also includes a first chamber coupled to the inlet and configured to receive the first gas sample. The first chamber includes a drain aperture. An outlet is coupled to the first chamber and is configured to receive a second gas sample from the first chamber. The second gas sample is derived from the first gas sample, that is the second gas sample includes less liquid than the first gas sample. The second chamber is substantially sealed around the first chamber. The first chamber receives a combined gas and liquid from the inlet and separates at least some of the liquid from the gas. The first chamber is configured to have liquid deposited at the bottom of the first chamber. The liquid deposited at the bottom of the first chamber is subsequently transferred to the second chamber through the drain aperture by a pumping action created by a pressure gradient in the inlet line. The pressure gradient is created by liquid water at least partially blocking the free flow of gas through the sample line inlet.

Method and apparatus for separating water and gas in a gas analyzer system

A method of stabilizing temperature effects on a gas analyzer includes transmitting infrared energy through a plurality of cells in a reference cell drum to a sensor in the gas analyzer. The plurality of cells include at least one cell containing a reference gas and at least one cell containing an air reference. The method also includes interposing a filter in at least one of the plurality of cells in the reference cell drum, wherein energy from the infrared beam is reduced. The method further includes rotating the reference cell drum such that the infrared energy fully passes through each of the plurality of cells for a limited period of time such that the sensor generates a substantial sine wave signal.

Optical stabilization of temperature effects on an infrared gas analyzer

An infrared gas analyzer and method employing one optical path which includes one infrared source, one sample cell containing the gas(es) to be analyzed, one infrared sensor and one infrared filter no matter how many gases are to be analyzed. The one optical path with one filter is utilized for both determining infrared source output and infrared absorption by the gas(es) to be measured.
