A single-use lancet cartridge for inserting into a multi-use lancet driver assembly of a meter housing includes an elongated lancet housing with an open end, a lancet within the lancet housing and movable between a retracted and resting orientation to a piercing orientation through the open end, and a re-use prevention component that is a rotated drive wing incorporated within the lancet cartridge and oriented to cooperatively engage with a driver piston of the multi-use lancet driver assembly only one time thereby preventing the lancet from being moved into a piercing orientation a second time.

A lancet carrier for an integrated lancet sensor assembly incorporating a lance cover includes an elongated body with a bottom, an open top, a body open end and a body closed end, a lancet-receiving recess with a recess bottom surface, the recess extending between the open end and the closed end, and a trough-forming member forming a trough with a trough open end in communication with the body open end, the trough-forming member longitudinally extending a predefined distance along the bottom from the body open end, the trough replacing a portion of the recess bottom surface at the body open end.

Single use lancet sensor assembly and meter

A method of obtaining a test sample from a specimen using a lancet system includes engaging a lancet driver against a drive wing of a lancet system, the lancet system having a major portion of a lancet member slidably engaged within a lancet carrier and a sensor strip with a sample chamber attached to the lancet carrier, the lancet system having a lance connected to a first end of a lancet body of the lancet member wherein the lance is movable from a retracted position within the lancet carrier to an extended position outside the lancet carrier, the drive wing extending outwardly and transversely from the lancet body, the major portion of the lancet member having a sinuous portion with a distal end restricted from movement by the lancet carrier, the sinuous portion being non-compressible when initially disposed within the lancet carrier wherein the drive wing prevents the sinuous portion from being compressed, moving the drive wing with the lancet driver a predetermined distance causing the lancet tip to move from the retracted position to the extended position, and disengaging the lancet driver from the drive wing, the lance being automatically moved from the extended position to the retracted position.

Lancet sensor assembly and meter

A blood glucose measuring system includes a lancet assembly and a meter for use with the lancet assembly. The lancet assembly has a lancet member with a lance, a lancet body having a drive wing extending outwardly from a side, and a sinuous portion, and an elongated carrier having a lancet member recess to contain the lancet member. The elongated carrier has an open end, a closed end, a side elongated opening for receiving the drive wing therethrough, and an anchoring member operatively connected to the end of the sinuous portion. The meter includes a measuring circuit, a lancet trigger, and a lancet driver where the lancet driver includes a driver piston engageable with the lancet trigger and a charging member that operatively engages with the driver piston to move the driver piston into an armed position and to stop the driver piston when released from the armed position.

A lancet assembly has a lancet body with a needle end, a sinuous portion end, and a slot, a lancet tip connected to the needle end, a sinuous portion connected to the sinuous portion end, an anchor structure connected to the sinuous portion. The lancet assembly may also include a lancet enclosure having an elongated chamber with a needle end, an anchor end in communication with the elongated chamber opposite the needle end, and a lancet enclosure slot in communication with the elongated chamber and spaced from the needle end. The anchor end is configured to receive and hold the anchor structure in a substantially static position. The elongated chamber is sized to receive in sliding engagement the lancet tip, the lancet body where the lancet body slot is in communication with the lancet enclosure slot and the sinuous portion and to permit slidable movement of the lancet tip through the open end between a retracted position and an extended position.

Lancet, lancet assembly and lancet-sensor combination

A strip dispenser has a strip magazine, a magazine spring, a strip vial component, and a cover. The strip magazine has a magazine open end and an outer magazine casing surrounding the strip magazine adjacent the open end for a predefined distance along the strip magazine where the magazine has a magazine volume with an open magazine top. The magazine spring is contained within the strip magazine. The strip vial component has a magazine receiving end, a closed end and a vial recess for slidably receiving the strip magazine between a first position and a second position where the vial recess has a shoulder portion spaced from the closed end and adjacent to and aligned with the open magazine top. The cover encloses the magazine open end and has a slit spaced a predefined distance from an edge of the cover where the slit is in communication with the magazine volume and the open magazine top and in spatial alignment with the shoulder portion.

Test strip dispenser

A static mixer for mixing substances under either laminar flow or turbulent flow conditions, or for mixing substances having a combination of laminar and turbulent flow conditions. The static mixer includes a first conduit operatively connected to a series of two or more mixing segments. The mixing segments include one or more splitting components for dividing the fluid stream into two or more flow streams, two or more flow branches wherein each of the flow branches receives one of the flow streams and wherein each of the flow branches operatively changes the cross-sectional shapes of their respective flow streams in preparation for layering and stacking the flow streams to each other, and a second conduit for receiving and stacking the two or more flow streams creating a layered unified fluid stream.

Apparatus for mixing laminar and turbulent flow streams

A method of mixing substances under either laminar flow or turbulent flow conditions, or substances having a combination of laminar flow conditions. The method includes combining two or more initial fluidic substances into a combined fluid stream, dividing the combined fluid stream into two or more separate fluid streams, changing the shape of each of the two or more separate fluid streams in preparation for layering the two or more separate fluid streams together into a subsequent combined fluid stream such that each subsequent combined fluid stream has the same cross-sectional shape as the initial combined fluid stream and such that the cross-sectional area of the fluid stream is constant, and repeating the dividing, shaping and layering of the subsequent combined fluid stream at least one or more times.

Method for mixing laminar and turbulent flow streams

A two electrode assembly in a polarographic cell includes a sensor electrode and a silver/silver chloride reference electrode in which silver metal is in contact with a substantial reservoir of silver chloride.

Polarographic cell

Hematocrit level of a blood sample is measured by flowing the sample along a liquid flow path and using electrodes in the flow path to obtain electrical signals representative of the sample's electrical conductivity and of the concentration of an ion species in the path, either before or after the sample measurement. Electrical signals are obtained for standardizing solution conductivity and ion species concentration. A tentative sample hematocrit value is derived from the sample and standardizing conductivity signals. Then the tentative hematocrit value is corrected with reference to the sample and standardizing ion concentration signals and to the known standardizing solution ion concentration value. A control solution of the ion species at known concentration is used for evaluating the hematocrit detection apparatus; the solution also includes an ion activity enhancing agent. A removable septum assembly is used in a blood sample component measuring apparatus in which at least two standardizing solutions are introduced into the flow path. The septum assembly comprises: (a) chamber-defining members, which define a plurality of chambers, the members being permanently attached to each other; and (b) flexible septa positioned between the chambers, each septum having a slit, the slits being aligned to sealably receive therethrough an elongated probe connected to a flush fluid and each remaining chamber being connected to a standardizing fluid introducing lines, the septum assembly being removably attached as a unit to the apparatus which includes means for releasably attaching the septum assembly in position to receive the probe through the slits.

An electrode assembly comprising an organic plastic sample flow-through tube, a portion of the wall of which comprises a membrane, the membrane comprising a matrix of an organic plastic material containing a non-volatile solvent-plasticizer and an ion exchange material dissolved in the solvent plasticizer, the membrane chemically bonded to and integral with said tube. The method of forming the membrane to the tube comprises dissolving the matrix material, the ion exchange material and the non-volatile solvent plasticizer in a volatile solvent, placing the resulting solution on a surface and evaporating the volatile solvent to form the membrane, contacting an edge of the tube to the membrane material, contacting the tube edge with said volatile solvent and allowing the solvent to evaporate.

Method of making liquid membrane electrode

An electrode assembly comprising an organic plastic sample flow-through tube, a portion of the wall of which comprises a membrane, the membrane comprising a matrix of an organic plastic material containing a non-volatile solvent-plasticizer and an ion exchange material dissolved in the solvent plasticizer, the membrane chemically bonded to and integral with said tube. The method of forming the membrane to the tube comprises dissolving the matrix material, the ion exchange material and the non-volatile plasticizer in a volatile solvent, placing the resulting solution on a surface and evaporating the volatile solvent to form the membrane, contacting an edge of the tube to the membrane material, contacting the tube edge with said volatile solvent and allowing the solvent to evaporate.
