A curable silicone pre-elastomer composition is disclosed comprising ammonium carboxylate, which upon cure yields a silicone elastomer having improved heat age properties and suitability for high or low temperature sealing applications.

Additive and method for enhancing the heat age properties of elastomers

A composition is provided for treating silica filler in-situ, comprising a silanol-terminated, vinyl-containing polydiorganosiloxane having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a monovalent substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical; R.sup.1 is R or a halogenated alkyl radical; R.sup.2 is R or a halogenated alkyl radical; 'a' is a number in the range of from about 1 to about 30; 'b' is a number in the range of from 0 to about 50; and 'c' is a number in the range of from 4 to about 30; the vinyl content of the polydiorganosiloxane being in the range of from about 1 to about 20% by weight and the silanol content being in the range of from about 0.1 to about 6% by weight. Preferably, R and R.sup.1 are methyl, R.sup.2 is methyl or 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl, and b is 0.

Vinyl-containing silanol-terminated silicone compositions for treatment

A composition for in situ treating silica filler is provided, comprising a silanol-terminated, vinyl-containing polydiorganosiloxane which functions both as a processing aid and as a crosslinking agent in vulcanizable fluorosilicone and silicone elastomer compositions.

Heat cured silicone rubber compositions which contain a potassium aluminosilicate filler exhibit improved resistance to hydrocarbon oils. The potassium aluminosilicate filler has an average surface area of between about 5.0 and about 6.50 m.sup.2 /g, an average particle diameter of between about 1.0 and about 20.0 micrometers, and an average particle thickness of between about 0.5 and 1.0 micrometers. A method for securing protective silicone resin coatings to plastics without the use of primers is disclosed. Shock curing a silicone resin coating composition on transparent plastic substrates, such as polycarbonate, at a temperature not substantially below 140.degree. C. is found to give a tough, adherent coating without distorting the substrate or diminishing its optical clarity, and without the use of primers. The suitability, after incorporation into the silicon resin coating composition, of certain silylated ultraviolet light screening compounds for shock curing is also disclosed.

Ultraviolet radiation resistant silicone resin coating compositions are provided having improved thermoformability. Improved thermoformability and shortened required aging are achieved by the addition of a Lewis acid compound to the coating compositions is disclosed.
