A bicycle frame assembly having a number of rotatable members configured to absorb shocks and impacts associated with operation of the bicycle. The assembly includes a frame constructed to support a rider and a chain stay having a rearward end that extends toward a wheel hub and a forward end that is pivotably connected to the frame. An absorber is pivotably connected to the forward end of the chain stay and extends to a rocker arm that is pivotably connected to the frame. A seat stay is pivotably connected to a rearward end of the rocker arm and extends to the rearward end of the chain stay. The rearward ends of the seat stay and the chain stay are pivotably connected to rotate about a common axis.

Bicycle rear wheel suspension system

A method for forming a bicycle frame assembly having a number of elongate tubes is disclosed. A two part mold can be used to form a hollow finish part as part of the assembly. The assembly includes a passage that is defined by the elongate member, a partition, and a bridge. The partition isolates the passage from an interior volume of the elongate tube. The bridge extends in a direction normal to an elongate direction of the passage and defines an inlet and an outlet of the passage. The inlet, outlet, and bridge are generally flush with an exterior surface of the elongate tube and provide a passage that cooperates with a flexible connector, such as a cable tie, for securing supplemental structures, such as brake and shift control cables, to the elongate tube of the bicycle frame assembly.

A bicycle air shock absorber assembly that includes a hollow piston rod that is telescopically associated with a hollow compression rod. The piston rod and compression rod are positioned within the casing of the shock assembly. A piston is supported by the piston rod and divides the volume of the compression rod to form a negative air spring chamber and a positive air spring chamber that includes the volume of the piston rod. An optional coil spring is positioned within the casing and contributes in parallel with the positive air spring chamber to resist compression of the shock assembly.

A bicycle derailer assembly that is mounted concentrically with an axle of a rear wheel assembly. The derailer is constructed to be mounted to the bicycle such that the derailer is pivotable about a common axis with the rear wheel and such that the rear wheel can be removed from the bicycle without interfering with the connection of the derailer to the bicycle. The derailer system provides a derailer that is robust and reduces interference of the derailer with the performance of bicycle maintenance.

A fiber reinforced plastic bicycle wheel rim having an aerodynamic section is formed of two mating halves, without additional structural reinforcing members, using laminations of layers of unidirectional fibers crossing one another and having semicircular layers of non-crossing fibers orientated parallel to a point of tangency, the non-crossing layers being proximate tire well apexes and the spoke bed, including, in a preferred embodiment, a lamination of machinable materials at the braking surfaces.

Optimum compaction low void composite bicycle wheel rim

A complex-shaped carbon fiber structural member including a multiplicity of carbon epoxy fiber bundles surrounded by a unidirectional carbon fiber rope and its method of manufacture are provided. The fiber bundles are formed from large sheets of unidirectional carbon fiber materials cut into small strips, with the strips then being randomly oriented in the form of a sheet of randomized fiber bundles. The strips, and the fibers in the strips, cross over one another so as to form a layer of material that has a relatively uniform strength in all directions. The sheets of randomized carbon epoxy fiber bundles are cut into preforms for the structural part being made. Several preforms are stacked on top of each other in order to provide material to make the part of a desired thickness. To reinforce the bundles within the part, particularly along its outer periphery, the preforms are wrapped prior to molding with an elongated rope of unidirectional carbon fibers. The preforms and unidirectional rope are assembled together in an appropriate mold, which is then subject to heat and pressure for molding and curving the part.
