Snap fastener element

A plastic molded snap fastener including a stud head having solid thin annular base flange and a top, the top and the flange being held in spaced relation by radial ribs preferably in the form of a cross piece, the top being annular but 'flattened' on the outer perimeter in the area of the ends of the cross piece. Where the plastic is compatible with the plastic of the fabric, the fastener parts may be molded directly on the fabric. In a modification the base flange is split by a plane perpendicular to the axis of the fastener part. The base fabric is sandwiched between the parts of the flange. This modification is useful where the plastic of the fastener is not compatible with the plastic of the fabric. The invention also includes a mold apparatus for forming the fastener on a strip of fabric wherein core pins on one side of the mold cooperate with spring-pressed ejection pins on the other side and with cavities in the mold retainer plates to shape the parts. The preferred mold apparatus also includes punches for perforating the fabric preparatory to the molding operation.

Apparatus for molding a snap fastener onto fabric

Snap fastener for molding on to fabric and apparatus for making it

Molded one-way snap fastener comprises a stud head having a base flange and radial fins extending up from its center to a circular top. The top has downward barbs spaced between the fins. The socket has a base flange and a sleeve having a tapered mouth with a throat and an annular downwardly and outwardly inclined bearing surface above the throat and a cylindrical opening thereabove. The dimensions of the parts are such that once the stud head is inserted into the socket and the barbs pass the throat, they spring out and contact the side walls of the cylindrical opening, immobilizing the stud head in the socket. After that, attempts to unsnap the socket result in the butting of the ends of the barbs into the bearing surface, which because of its downward and outward slope, spreads the barbs causing them more resolutely to defy unsnapping. The fastener must be destroyed to give up its snapped state.

One-way snap fastener

A tiltable button comprises a shank and cover or shell. The shank and shell between them have means to prevent relative rotation. In one form the shank has radial recesses and the shell inward deflections which go into the radial recesses. In another form the shank has spokes which go out to a ring over which the shell is crimped, the spokes permitting tilting of the shell but not rotation relative to the shank. Anti-rotation projections are formed downwardly on the bottom of the shank. The purpose of preventing rotation is so that logos and other indicia on the shell will always be right side up.

Tiltable button having anti-rotation means

A two-piece nozzle, for fitment to hand actuated liquid pumps having a barrel portion and a bore therethrough for passage of liquid, is disclosed. The nozzle has an integrally formed nozzle cap which is mounted to the end portion of the barrel. Enclosed within the nozzle cap is an integrally formed sealing structure which is attached to the barrel of the pump. The sealing device provides a peripheral liquid-tight seal around the barrel between the nozzle cap and the barrel. It also provides a check valve which is movably positioned at the mouth of the bore to provide a liquid-tight bore seal. The check valve is biased to provide the liquid-tight bore seal which bias can be overcome by liquid pressure in the bore developed upon actuation of the pump.

Fluid dispenser method and apparatus

A child resistant closure for a container having a pump or other dispensing device connected to the container including a cap having a hole in the top for receipt of the pump or dispensing device and threads on the inside walls for engaging threads located on the container, the cap having a series of ratchet teeth on the inside wall for engaging a series of ratchet teeth on the bottle to prevent the cap from being removed from the container.

Child resistant bottle closure

A three-piece nozzle is disclosed, for fitment to a hand actuated liquid pump having a barrel portion with a bore therethrough for passage of liquid. The nozzle features an integrally formed nozzle cap which fits around the end portion of the barrel. Enclosed within the nozzle cap is an integrally formed nozzle seal which forms a peripheral liquid-tight seal around the barrel between the nozzle cap and the barrel. Also provided is an integrally formed check valve which is movably positioned at the mouth of the bore and which is biased towards the mouth of the bore to form a liquid-tight bore seal. The bias is overcome, to open the liquid-tight bore seal, upon actuation of the pump which provides liquid pressure in the bore to act against the check valve.

An actuator button assembly for a finger-operated fluid dispenser including a compression chamber located in the actuator button, a piston slidably located in the compression chamber, an insert having an orifice therein fitted adjacent to the compression chamber, resilient means for biasing the piston toward the insert, and a cylindrical pin extending from the piston for contacting and sealing the orifice located in the insert.

An aerosol valve tip and insert assembly adapted for use on aerosol dispensers. The tip includes a body having interconnecting channels and an integral actuator post defining an annular recess. An insert having arcuate shaped bosses defining radial feed channels and a swirl chamber on the rear face is received in the annular recess and abuts the post. The tip and insert assembly provides a substantially uniform aerosol spray pattern and droplet size for carbon dioxide, fluorocarbon, and other pressurized spray formulations over a broad range of pressures.

A safety overcap for a container, for example, an aerosol container. The child-resistant overcap includes a generally circular top wall and a generally cylindrical outer skirt depending downwardly from the top wall. The wall of the outer skirt is provided with a pair of opposed, longitudinally extending slots. An inner skirt depends downwardly from the top wall within the outer skirt and has two opposed portions positioned adjacent the pair of openings in the outer skirt. The inner skirt is provided with opposed, inwardly projecting beads on the lower portion thereof which enagage an annular groove provided at the top of the container to attach the cap to the container. By gripping the exposed portions of the inner skirt through the slots with the forefinger and thumb and applying pressure thereto, the inner skirt is distorted and releases the overcap from the container.

Safety closure for containers

A heat-responsive valve construction for use with pressurized containers such as aerosol cans and the like, comprising an annular mounting cup in which there is contained an apertured sealing gasket and also a rigid washer engaged with the gasket. Passing through the cup, gasket and washer is an axially shiftable valve stem having an axial bore in its outer end and having lateral or side orifices intermediate its ends, which communicate with the bore. The outer end of the valve stem also has a plurality of heat-sensing arms extending radially and then axially from the end of the stem in spaced relation thereto, said arms being engaged with the top of the mounting cup. A connector ring joins the ends of the arms where they engage the cup. The other end portion of the valve stem carries a compression spring which is engaged with the rigid washer in the cup and also with an abutment on the stem. The spring applies pressure to the washer, which in turn presses the sealing gasket against the underside of the top wall of the cup. Spring pressure is thus exerted through the stem on the heat-responsive arms, and maintains these in engagement with the top surface of the cup. Under conditions of excessive heat, the arms weaken and yield, being aided by the action of the coil spring, and the latter thereupon shifts the valve stem to move the side orifices thereof completely through the sealing gasket whereby they communicate with the interior of the container to enable discharge of the pressurized liquid therein through the bore of the stem.
