A method of removing organic components from a mixture containing organic and inorganic components which method involves providing an induction heated screw conveyor having an auger and passing the mixture through the induction heated screw conveyor while inductively heating the auger so as to heat the mixture in the induction heated screw conveyor primarily from the center of the induction heated screw conveyor. The mixture is heated to a temperature that is sufficient to cause the organic components in the mixture to separate from the mixture as a vapor. The oxygen concentration in the induction heated screw conveyor is controlled so as to gasify the organic components. The gasified organic components are removed and the remaining inorganic components are collected.

Induction heated gasifier

A method of separating a high boiling component from a mixture containing organic and/or inorganic boiling components which method involves providing an induction heated screw conveyor having an auger and passing the mixture through the induction heated screw conveyor while inductively heating the auger so as to heat the mixture in the induction heated screw conveyor. The mixture is heated to a temperature that is sufficient to cause the boiling component(s) to separate from the mixture as a vapor and the boiling component is removed from the induction heated screw conveyor.

Induction heated screw

A method of separating metals that are physically or structurally combined in assemblies which includes the steps of: providing at least one assembly that comprises two or more different metals that are physically or structurally combined; heating the at least one assembly in a tunnel kiln furnace to melt at least one of the different metals while maintaining at least one of the different metals in a solid state; and separating the at least one of the different metals that was melted from the at least one of the different metals that was maintained in the solid state. According to one embodiment the assemblies are 'copper meatballs.' Also disclosed is a system for separating metals that are physically or structurally combined in assemblies which system includes a tunnel kiln furnace and processing containers or processing containment assemblies into or onto which the assemblies are loaded and transported through the tunnel kiln furnace in.

Metal separation using a tunnel kiln furnace

A method of processing polymer materials, highly filled or otherwise to recover cyclic structures or monomers. The method involves providing a vessel having a heated side wall, an agitator, and at least one of an additional heated structure, other than the heated side wall, within the vessel and means for forming a thin coat of material processed in the vessel on said heated side wall. A polymer material is fed into the vessel and heated to a sufficient temperature to cause depolymerization of the polymer material into cyclic structures or monomers. The cyclic structures or monomers are removed from the vessel and collected. The method does not require the use of a solvent.

The method includes avoiding the formation of islands of materials that are fed into the channel induction furnace. Dual use of an induction furnace to produce hot metal or pig iron while processing iron and volatile metal containing materials

A process for separating and recovering a desired metal as metal oxide from raw material is provided. The process includes placing the raw material and a reductant in a container to form a reducing microclimate within the container. A housing having an oxidizing atmosphere is heated to maintain a temperature zone within the housing at a heating temperature sufficient to expose the raw material in the container to a reaction temperature. The container containing the raw material is conveyed through the temperature zone in the housing to expose the raw material and the reductant to the reaction temperature wherein the metal oxide is reduced to a gaseous metal that exits the container. Once outside the container, the gaseous metal is exposed to the oxidizing atmosphere of the temperature zone wherein the desired metal is oxidized to metal oxide and the metal oxide is collected. In preferred embodiments, the raw material is EAF dust and the desired metal is zinc. In one specific embodiment, the process also includes maintaining a second temperature zone in the housing at a metal halide vaporization temperature, which is lower than the heating temperature. A flow of air is applied through the housing in a direction that is opposite to a direction of travel of the container during the conveying step, whereby a metal halide in the raw material is volatilized to a volatilized metal halide when the container is conveyed through the second heating zone. The volatilized metal halide is then collected.
