A thermal management system for an automotive inverter includes an active discharge circuit in thermal communication with a DC link capacitor, a thermal interface material positioned between the active discharge circuit and the DC link capacitor such that heat generated from the active discharge circuit is transferred to the DC link capacitor, and a coolant channel for a cooling fluid extending between the DC link capacitor and a base plate of the automotive inverter, wherein the heat generated from the active discharge circuit of the automotive inverter is transferred from the DC link capacitor to dissipate the heat. A method to thermally manage heat dissipated from automotive inverter is also provided.

The breaker/relay includes an armature coupled to the moveable contact, and capable to open or close the motive power circuit.

The high voltage power output coupling includes a second electrical interface for a motive power load. A method for providing electromagnetic compatibility to a motor control circuit is provided. A base pulse width modulated signal is selected to apply to a motor control circuit, and comprises a duty cycle for controlling an affiliated motor. Sensed system conditions are inputted for selecting a hopping frequency and a hopping amplitude of an electro magnetic compatibility management signal. The hopping frequency and the hopping amplitude are overlayed on to the base pulse width modulated signal to create a control pulse width modulated signal. The hopping frequency dithers the frequency of the control pulse width modulated signal. The hopping amplitude restricts the amplitude of the frequency dither.

Methods and systems for detecting and clearing battery power failure of an electric clutch actuator (ECA) include use of a capacitor connected to the ECA. The capacitor is connected to the ECA such that when the ECA and a battery configured to output a battery voltage are connected together a capacitor voltage matches the battery voltage and when the ECA and the battery are disconnected from one another the capacitor voltage differs from the battery voltage. A loss of battery connection is detected upon a difference between the capacitor voltage and the battery voltage exceeding a threshold.

Methods and systems for operating a motor having a rotor rotatable relative to a stator include commutating the motor to cause the rotor to rotate to a known position. While the rotor is at the known position, a position of an encoder magnet configured to rotate with the rotor is measured. Subsequent commutation of the motor is adjusted to take into account a difference between the known position of the rotor and the measured position of the encoder magnet.
