A system comprising a processor and a memory comprising firmware is provided. The firmware is executable by the processor to cause the processor to operate a print mechanism in accordance with a first state associated with a capability of the print mechanism, change the first state associated with the capability to a second state in response to receiving first information from an external interface, and operate the print mechanism in accordance with the second state associated with the capability.

A tracking device is provided for tracking a position of the tracking device in relation to a surface. The tracking device has a first optical sensor to capture a primary image of the surface. A second optical sensor is provided to capture a secondary image of the surface. A processor evaluates the primary and secondary images to determine a movement of the tracking device in relation to the surface.

A printing apparatus that includes at least two print heads. The printing apparatus includes a body defining a printing cavity therein, a first print path defined within the printing cavity and a second print path defined within the printing cavity that is substantially parallel to the first print path. A device is provided to move a printing surface from the first print path to the second print path.

A system is operable to correct for distortion in an image. The distortion in the image was caused by rotation of an image capture device while the image was being captured by the image capture device. The system includes an orientation sensor configured to perform a first measurement concurrently with the image capture device capturing the image. The system further includes a rotation module configured to generate, based on the first measurement, a rotation matrix. The system further includes a correction module configured to, based on the rotation matrix, correct the distortion in the image caused by the rotation of the image capture device. The system further includes a restoration module configured to selectively reverse the correction of the distortion in the image based on (i) the image as corrected by the correction module and (ii) the rotation matrix.

Method and apparatus for tracking movement of a handheld device relative to a medium

Methods, apparatuses, and systems that facilitate common feed path printing devices to discern between original media and blank media are described herein. The novel systems may include, among other things, a print and a scan mechanism having a common input path to receive a first and a second media, the first media being original media to be scanned by the scan mechanism, and the second media being blank media to be printed on by the print mechanism. The system may further include a divider and a first sensor. The divider being configured to provide to the common feed path the first and the second media by defining a first and a second input slot to locate the first and the second media, respectively, wherein the divider to provide the first and the second media to the common feed path via the first and second input slots. The first sensor may detect absence of the first media in the first input slot.

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for determining an end of printing operation in a handheld image translation device are described herein. The determining of the end of the printing operation may include generation and maintenance of a processed image by an image processing module and a print module, respectively. Embodiments of the present invention provide a method that includes moving a handheld device over a print medium, depositing a tagging substance with the handheld device in a tagging pattern on the print medium, further moving the handheld device over the print medium such that at least one sensor of the handheld device senses at least part of the tagging pattern, and determining at least one of a position and/or a velocity of the handheld device based upon the sensing at least part of the tagging pattern. The tagging pattern is configured to provide absolute position information.

An apparatus includes an image capture sensor, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, a feedback module, a rotation module, a correction module, and a restoration module. The image capture sensor captures an image. The gyroscope makes a first measurement that indicates an orientation of the image capture sensor relative to a reference orientation. The accelerometer makes a second measurement. The feedback module generates a corrected first measurement to correct for drift of the gyroscope in response to the second measurement. The rotation module generates a rotation matrix based on the corrected first measurement. The correction module corrects the image captured by the image capture sensor based on the rotation matrix. The restoration module selectively restores the image captured by the image capture sensor based on (i) the image as corrected by the correction module and (ii) the rotation matrix.

The scanning device may include an image capture module to capture surface images of a medium to be scanned and a positioning module to determine positioning information based at least in part on navigational images and the captured surface images. Handheld scanning device

Embodiments of the present invention provide a handheld device comprising an input/output (I/O) module configured to at least one of print and scan images on a surface adjacent to the handheld device, a position module operatively coupled with the I/O module to determine at least one of a position and a velocity of the handheld device, and a filter coupled to the I/O module to regulate a rate of deposition of a printing substance by the I/O module.
