An aqueous sacrificial coating composition for an image transfer member in an aqueous ink imaging system is provided. The sacrificial coating composition may include at least one polymer, at least one selected from (i) at least one chain extender, or (ii) a reactive elastomeric latex, wherein the at least one chain extender comprises a species capable of linking linear chains or chain segments of the reactive elastomeric latex, at least one hygroscopic plasticizer, and at least one surfactant.

Compositions and use of compositions in printing processes

A system and method are provided for producing variable pearlescent image elements or portions on image receiving media substrates using a variable digital data offset lithographic architecture which provides for varying lithographic images between cycles of a marking device. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components in a proportion of at least 30% by weight suspended in solution in an ink composition. Pearlescent inks are provided with a solid particle pearlescent pigment components having particle sizes in excess of ten microns suspended in solution in the ink composition. An ink composition useful for digital offset printing applications includes a colorant and a high viscosity thickening agent. The ink is formulated to incorporate polyester viscosity modifier to help meet the requirement of two different viscosity or temperature pairs at two different stages of the process. In digital offset printing a bulk ink is first transferred onto an anilox roll, and then from the anilox roll onto the imaging cylinder blanket. During the bulk ink to anilox roll the disclosed ink has a low viscosity while the transfer from roll to imaging blanket the ink has a higher viscosity. The addition of the polyester viscosity modifier increases the viscosity difference within the allowable temperature range, thus, increasing process latitude and robustness.

Provided is a method of patterning a substrate. The method includes depositing, in a first predetermined pattern, hydrophobic material on a first surface of a hydrophilic substrate. The method includes permeating the hydrophobic material through a thickness of the substrate. The method includes exposing the hydrophobic material to UV-light and sufficiently solidifying the permeated hydrophobic material. The sufficiently solidified hydrophobic material forms a liquid-impervious barrier that separates the substrate into at least one discrete region.

A white ink composition for ink-based digital printing includes a white pigment. The white pigment is titanium dioxide. A method for ink-based digital printing includes applying dampening fluid to an imaging member to form a dampening fluid layer, patterning the dampening fluid layer using a laser imaging system, applying a white ink composition to the imaging member surface having the patterned dampening fluid disposed thereon to form an ink image, partially curing the ink image, and transferring the partially cured ink image to a printable substrate.

An aqueous ink composition including water; a co-solvent; an encapsulated resinous pigment; a polymer latex; and a low molecular weight humectant solute; wherein the total solids content of the aqueous ink is from about 2 to about 25 percent by weight based on the total weight of the aqueous ink composition.

An ink for a printer may include one or more latexes in an amount from about 0.1 wt % to about 15 wt %, one or more amines in an amount from about 0 wt % to about 2 wt %, and one or more pigments in an amount from about 0.5 wt % to about 8 wt %. The ink may also include four or more solvents that, in the aggregate, are present in an amount from about 10 wt % to about 50 wt %. The ink may further include one or more surfactants in an amount from about 0.001 wt % to about 3 wt %.
