A vehicle panel () includes a core layer () and a layer of metalized film () bonded to the core layer (). In one embodiment, the core layer () is made of a material with heat absorption or insulation properties. The layer of metalized film () is made of a material having heat reflective properties that can be bonded to the core layer (). Alternatively, a compatible bonding agent can be applied to the core layer, the metalized film, or both. To form the vehicle panel (), the layer metalized film () is positioned on one half of a mold tool and the core layer () is positioned on the other half of the mold tool. Heat is applied to the core layer () and the mold tool is closed such that the heat from the core layer () causes the metalized film () to be in a formable state and bonds to the core layer ().

A head restraint comprising a first core portion including an exterior surface, an interior and a perimeter edge between the exterior surface and the interior, a first outer layer provided about at least a region of said exterior surface of said first core portion, a second core portion including an exterior surface, an interior and a perimeter edge between the exterior surface and the interior, and a second outer layer provided about at least a region of said exterior surface of said second core portion, wherein at least a region of the perimeter edge of the first core portion is attached to at least a region of the perimeter edge of the second core portion to define a perimeter seam therebetween.

Two-piece head restraint and method for making same

A vehicle panel includes a care layer and a reinforcement layer positioned on one or both sides of the core layer. The core layer is made of a material with heat absorption or insulation properties, such as polypropylene, and the like. The reinforcement layer is comprised of fiberglass strands intermingled with a polymer to form a blended composition having a density in a range between about 50 and 200 g/m. The vehicle panel may also include an adhesive layer between a cover material and the reinforcement layer on one side of the core layer. The vehicle panel may also include a scrim material adjacent the reinforcement layer on the opposite side of the core layer. The reinforcement layer provides dimensional stability to the vehicle panel, while reducing the overall weight and thickness of the vehicle panel as compared to conventional vehicle panels.

A headliner assembly () includes a layer of core material (), a binding agent () adjacent to the core material (), a first layer of chopped fiberglass () adjacent to the binding agent (), a scrim () adjacent to the first layer of chopped fiberglass (), a catalyst () adjacent to the scrim (), a cover stock () adjacent to the catalyst (). The catalyst () and the binding agent () are mixed together and impregnate the core material when pressure is applied to the headliner assembly (), thereby resulting in a rigid headliner assembly. A method of forming the headliner assembly () is also disclosed.
