A power connector in accordance with IEC320 for providing common connections for individual male and female connectors and a ground lead, for example, to a anti-glare filter. The power connector device includes an insulating body which houses male ground and power plugs and female ground and power receptacles which are joined within the body to the male plugs; a common ground connector adapted for external connection to a ground lead as well as to the electrically common male and female ground connectors; and preferably a shroud surrounding the external sections of the male plugs for preventing accidental human contact.

Methods for rendering a recording medium for use with a recording laser beam providing light of a given energy and frequency, where the medium is characterized by a light-reflecting structure with a light-absorbing record layer thereon and a sealing overcoat on the record layer, the light-absorbing record layer being prone to exhibit micro-excursions and/or micro-deformation during laser recording thereon, and a transparent 'soft-pad' isolation layer is interposed, between the light-absorbing layer and the overcoat, this soft pad having a thickness and other characteristics such that the absorber layer is constrained little, or not at all, in the course of being written-upon with the laser, the soft, pad thus functioning to isolate the absorber layer thermally and mechanically, as well as to help defocus dust, etc.

Method of coating an optical media

Recording media for recording information 'bits' in response to activation of a laser beam, the media including a recording layer adjacent a 'soft pad' layer above and/or below (e.g., a vacuum-evaporated reconstituted fluoropolymer), especially as a 'soft pad overcoat'. A 'hard cap' is overlaid on such a 'soft pad' overcoat (e.g., a radiation-cured acrylic) as an outer protective sealing coat. The soft pad may be rendered under the recording layer as a spacer layer.

An optical interference filter structure incorporates antireflectance and light absorbing elements disposed on a substrate. The filter structure is shaped to conform substantially to the face of a cathode ray tube or other luminous display, such as a cathode ray tube for example. The materials of the elements are selected for their characteristics including indices of refraction, light absorption and chromatic filtering so that in combination they provide optimum antireflectance, antiglare and image contrast features.

A structure that provides suppression of reflectance of radiation and thus enhanced emissivity is fabricated with a substrate that supports alternating absorber and spacer layers with interleaved antireflectance coatings formed of thin films of different materials having different indices of refraction. A coated article useful in high temperature environments substantially in excess of 500.degree. C. comprising a substantially transparent substrate formed of a material adapted to withstand said high temperature environment and an optical coating formed on one surface of said substrate and comprising a first set of layers consisting at least primarily of silicon dioxide and a second set of layers consisting at least primarily of tantalum pentoxide. The optical coating comprises an interference filter formed of alternating layers of fused silica and tantalum pentoxide. A halogen cycle lamp with visible light transmitting, IR reflecting filter formed on the outside surface of the lamp envelope improves energy efficiency by at least twenty-five percent.

Optical coatings for high temperature applications

An optical data storage system is contemplated, employing improved optical disk media, these characterized by multiple layers, including various under layers, an optical absorber layer, and overcoating layers, such as a 'soft pad' layer (e.g., a fluoropolymer) overlaid with a 'Hard' layer (e.g., a radiation-cured acrylic) as an outer protective overcoat. Taught are 'Spiral' coating techniques (FIG. 3) specified for applying the 'Hard' layer and preferably involving: applying the coating mix as arcuate 'bead segments' about the disk center, these being formulated and applied to properly 'set-up' and quickly 'level' (e.g., close enough to one another and 'self-leveling').

Overcoating structure is specified in some detail; e.g., as a 'soft pad' layer (e.g., fluoropolymer) on the absorber, with a 'Hard' layer (e.g., radiation-cured acrylic) laid over the 'soft pad' as an outer protective overcoat. Also, the 'spacer' may be rendered as such a 'soft pad'.

Article having improved reflectance suppression comprising a substrate formed of a material having a reststrahlen band and having at least one surface and a coating carried by said one surface. The coating comprises at least one period with each period consisting of a spacer layer and an absorber layer. The spacer layer is formed of a material having a low index of refraction and has an optical thickness ranging from approximately one quarter of a wavelength and less. The spacer layer also has low absorption in the visible region of the spectrum. The absorber layer is formed of a material which has substantial absorption near the reststrahlen band. The absorber layer has a complex index of refraction as a function of wavelength which is relatively close to the index of refraction of the substrate.

A cathode ray tube face plate construction for suppressing the halo on the face plate of the cathode ray tube having a face plate formed of glass with an index of refraction in the vicinity of 1.52 and with outer and inner surfaces. A fluorescent phosphor screen is carried by the inner surface. A metallic coating may overlie the phosphor screen on the side of the screen facing away from the face plate. An absorbing filter is disposed between the phosphor screen and the face plate for absorbing light emitted from the phosphor screen. An angle sensitive short wave pass filter is disposed between the phosphor screen and the absorbing filter for reflecting light emitted at a high angle from the phosphor screen.

Solar cell construction having a body formed essentially of silicon and having a surface with a photovoltaic junction applied thereon. An anti-reflection coating is formed on the surface. A transparent protective cover is provided. A cut-on filter is carried by the cover for reflecting solar energy below approximately 350 nanometers. A layer of substantially transparent cement is used for securing the protective cover to the body so that it overlies the junction and the anti-reflection coating. The cut-on filter includes a stack of high and low index layers for reflecting solar energy in the ultra-violet region of 350 nanometers and below and also may include at least one additional layer of material of absorbing ultraviolet energy below 350 nanometers which passes through the high and low index layers above it.
