A condensation cooling system for motor vehicles is presented. The system, in principal part, comprises a liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger for circulating a first coolant, a coolant tank for circulating a second coolant, and a condensing panel or surface, where the condensing panel is part of the coolant tank and also functions as a vehicle body panel. These components are arranged in two circuits, i.e. an engine cooling circuit in which a first coolant is circulated and a vapor condensing circuit in which a second coolant is circulated. The two cooling circuits are interconnected by the coolant tank where the heat exchanger is positioned within the coolant tank such that it is immersed in the second coolant. The coolant tank may also be equipped with pressure release valves, electric fans and diffuser plates to control pressure and manage air and vapor flow internally within the tank.

Alternative method of heat removal from an internal combustion engine

A box beam bicycle structure (BBBS) having a box section, a right triangular section and a left triangular section. The right and left triangular sections are either integral with the box structure, or the triangular sections are attached to the box structure by riveting, bonding or welding. The box structure is preferably made of a sheet material and the parts that comprise the box structure are attached together by riveting, bonding or welding. The BBBS interfaces with bicycle components to function as a lightweight, strong bicycle frame. Additionally, the BBBS can be manufactured as a one-piece design, or can utilize a hybrid construction design with an internal structure and reinforcing members at areas of high stress.

A control system which provides directional control over various real and virtual vehicles, craft and moveable subjects. The control system includes a housing, a controller in the housing having an electronic radio control PC board or an electronic video control PC board and tilt switches which are fixed relative to the housing at preferred orientations. The switches are connected to control terminals of the electronic control PC board. With the tilt switches fixed relative to the housing, orientation of the housing can result in the electronic control PC board transmitting signals to a remote vehicle, craft or virtual subject. Rather than tilt switches, the control system can include pots having shafts orthogonally arranged relative to the housing. The pots are connected to control terminals of the electronic control PC board. Pendulums are fixed to the shafts of the pots. With the pots having shafts orthogonally arranged relative to the housing such that the pendulums can swing responsive to gravity, orientation of the housing can result in the electronic control PC board transmitting signals to a remote vehicle, craft or virtual subject.

Controller for remote vehicles and craft and for virtual subjects

A high speed, high displacement steering device used for rapid mirror or light source pointing consisting of a pivoting central element and mounting stem, two orthogonally arranged and offset 'V' shaped flexure elements connected to two orthogonally arranged moving elements which are driven by electromotive actuators. Said moving elements are connected to a base structure via parallel motion flexures which serve to prevent undesirable bending forces in the linear actuators, while at the same time preventing undesirable translation movements, cross coupling of motion and resonances. A third type of orthogonal rod flexure restrains the remaining axis of translation motion, namely a translation of the central pivoting element in a direction perpendicular to the tilting axes. Piezoelectric, electrostrictive or similar actuators operate either separately or simultaneously to drive the central element in the only two remaining unrestrained tilting axes, via the offset 'V' shaped flexures, producing tilt in any commanded direction. A sealing cover containing an elastic diaphragm to accommodate tilt may be added to the outer support structure as required for protection in harsh environments.

High speed scanning or steering device

An integral transverse spring-axle combines the functions of both an axle and a suspension by locating the wheels laterally and longitudinally, in the manner of an axle, and allowing vertical displacements of the wheels, in the manner of a suspension. This is achieved with a leaf spring with a center portion, a pair of center leaves and at least one pair of side leaves both extending oppositely from the center portion. The outboard ends of the leaves attach to the wheel hub carriers/knuckles. The inboard center portion of the spring attaches to the chassis/body frame. The two opposite outboard ends of the spring-axle leaves can move independently of each other. The spring-axle can be of the steered or nonsteered type, and of the driven or non-driven type.

Bicycle frame

A superefficient bicycle frame having a plurality of dual tapered rectangular or square cross section frame members having constant wall thickness. The torsional/bending section modulus of a member is changed by providing a dual taper to the cross section of the frame members so that larger cross sections are used at points of greatest stress and smaller cross sections are used at points of lower stress. The method of manufacture is to cut various two dimensional shapes from sheet stock which are bent along nonparallel bend lines to form the various members. This method of manufacture permits the ends of the section members to be shaped as desired by laser or plasma cutting, or other means, in the flat before bending. The tapered frame members are then connected to form a superefficient frame.

Superefficient bicycle structure

A bicycle shock absorber system employs a rubber sleeve trapped between two bushings which are spring loaded so as to increase the force on the rubber sleeve as spring force increases with travel. The rubber sleeve and bushings move with the fork stem which is rigidly attached to the fork and wheel and which slide inside an oil coated steerer tube which in turn rotates inside the outermost head tube which is integral with the bicycle frame. Upper and lower drive flexures permit relative sliding motion but rigidly prevent relative rotary motion so that steering forces are rigidly transferred into the fork stem. The internal elements operate in a bath of heavy oil which coats all the sliding elements providing complete lubrication and the viscous 'feel' of a hydraulic shock absorber. Any combination of spring and damping rates may be achieved by changing springs and the oil viscosity. The system is designed to be small and compact enough to fit in a common 'oversize' bicycle headtube. The design is easily adapted to make use of an air spring by adding a small sealed piston and air charging valve.

Lightweight self-adjusting semihydraulic suspension system

A receiver and antenna drive gear unit provide optimal mechanical and electrical pointing of the antenna dish at each of the satellite orbiting in geo-synchronous fashion above the equator, the receiver having the capability of calculating and initially pointing the antenna dish at each of the satellites, and then providing peaking routines under operator control to maximize signal strength. The antenna drive gear unit utilizes a separate motor for each of the azimuth and elevational directions and utilizes circular ring gears and a spur gear to drive the antenna, thereby providing much more accurate and repeatable monitoring and positioning of the antenna unit over extended usage.

Automatic drive for a TVRO antenna

A system for continuous passive motion of a limb or one or more fingers comprises a reciprocable carriage coupled to a drive belt which is driven by a motor through a disengageable clutch. A second drive belt also driven by the motor, and the first drive belt, carry elements whose positions can be sensed to control limits of motion. Individual finger actuators, adjustable in length and with internal springs, couple engagement means on the fingers to the carriage, which can be driven so as to provide predetermined dwell times at limits of flexion and extension.

Continuous passive motion devices and methods

An oil free diaphragm gas pump for providing compressed gas and a gas vacuum is disclosed and includes a pressure tank, a concave pressure bulkhead, a first circular flange mounted on the pressure bulkhead and having a bevel on its inner edge, a round rigid diaphragm with an undulated circumferential periphery with its edge mounted on the bevel of the first circular flange, a round flexible diaphragm with an undulated circumferential periphery which matches the shape of the round rigid diaphragm and is mounted on the round rigid diaphragm, a second circular flange which together with the first circular flange presses together the flexible diaphragm and the rigid diaphragm, a prime mover for the purpose of moving the flexible diaphragm, and interchangable compressor and vacuum cartridge means alternately mounted between the diaphragms and the pressure tank for providing switching means for controlling the gas flow required for providing a compressor and a vacuum.

Diaphragm gas pump

A device for production rate finishing and deburring of the ends of lengths of pipe with minimum loss of time, utilizing the finishing tool as a sensor to control the feed rate, whereby the end finishing and deburring is accomplished in a single pass and the tools are driven to the workpiece at a high feed rate.

Tube end finishing device

An improved remotely controlled miniature vehicle, more particularly an electrically driven miniature car of the type operated on a track-way having contact strips through which power is supplied to the driving motor of the vehicle. Improved remote control is provided for controlling the miniature car for changing one lane to another. The front wheels are steerable by actuation of a steering post. The driving motor is mounted to move physically in response to additional driving torque applied through a gear train to the rear wheels. Mechanism is provided whereby the physical movement of the driving motor actuates the steering mechanism to turn the front wheels for changing from one lane to another. Provided in one form of the invention is a member having rollers that can contact a side wall of the track for positioning the front wheels and steering post to pre-determine the direction of turning in response to physical movement of the driving motor.

Remotely controlled miniature vehicle

A toy vehicle is provided for use in a toy vehicle game including an endless track defining at least two parallely extending vehicle lanes in which two or more toy vehicles are adapted to be operated. The toy vehicles each include a reversible rotary drive motor and a transmission operatively engaged between the motor and two drive wheels for rotating one or the other of the drive wheels in response to the direction of rotation of the drive motor, thereby biasing the car against one or the other of the side walls of the track to guide the vehicle along its path of travel in one or the other of the lanes. The track includes electrical contact strips which supply power to the drive motor of the vehicles through current collectors mounted thereon. A control system permits the operators to separately and independently control current to the contact strips and also to selectively reverse the polarity of the current so that the operators can vary the speed of their associated vehicles and cause the vehicles to move from one lane to the other. In one form of the invention an additional toy vehicle operated as a drone car at constant speed is provided presenting an obstacle along the track which the players must pass by properly controlling their respective toy vehicles.
