An optical add/drop multiplexer incorporates an integrated receiver module and an integrated transmitter which are interfaced to an intervening electrical network to provide an add/drop/pass-through functionality. The receiver module incorporates a wavelength demultiplexer which is in turn combined with optical/electrical converters PIN photodiodes, and amplifiers on a per wavelength basis to output a plurality of parallel electrical signals in response to a common optical input. The transmitter module combines an integrated plurality of drive circuits and lasers for converting a plurality of parallel input electrical signals to a plurality of optical signals, on a per wavelength basis, which in turn are coupled via an optical wavelength multiplexer to a common output optical fiber. The interconnected electrical network, ring mesh or tree, can provide a reconfigurable electrical add/drop interface to other portions of the network.

Optical add/drop multiplexer using integrated optical components

A method and system for designing a bi-connected ring-based network is provided, which designs from scratch or converts an existing network to a dual-homed ring-based network. The network covers the locations capable of being bi-connected with one or more cycles/rings. The traffic demand is then routed via the cycles, in such a way so as to minimize the amount of network traffic management equipment required.

Method and system for designing ring-based telecommunications networks

A communication system () comprises a first network () including a source () arranged to transmit data and a second network () including a destination () arranged to receive the data. Interruptions in communication between the source and destination are reduced by providing a first primary node () and a first secondary node () in the first network (), and a second primary node () and a second secondary node () in the second network (). First and second sets of primary routes (and) and secondary routes (and) are provided within the first and second networks to facilitate delivery of data to various nodes.

Inter-working mesh telecommunications networks

A reduced component optical switch module includes a plurality of ports wherein each port includes an optical input and an optical output. A plurality of switchable deflectors in combination with a plurality of non-switchable deflectors can be used to establish transmission paths between pairs of ports to support traffic reciprocity. In one embodiment, the ports and switchable elements are configured so as to provide substantially constantly transmission paths within the respective module. In another embodiment, additional deflector elements can be provided to implement loop-back functionality at one or more of the ports.

Optical switch for reciprocal traffic

A computer-based method of scheduling jobs for processing by resources. The method proceeds by identifying resources capable of processing a first job and selecting a second job for rescheduling from jobs currently being processed by the identified resources such that the second job can be processed by resources other than the identified resources. Scheduling further includes scheduling the first job for processing by the resource currently processing the second job and rescheduling the second job. The method used to schedule the first job may be repeated to reschedule the second job and any jobs displaced by rescheduling the second job.

Telecommunications job scheduling

Footwear (210) that is readily adjustable to maintain the wearer in an upright, substantially vertical position, enabling the wearer to negotiate a steep roof without slipping or falling. The footwear (210) entails a pair of shoe boards (224) that attach to the wearer's shoes or feet. Each shoe board (224) is supported on a base (212) whose shape provides a large surface area that, when in contact with the roof under the weight of the wearer, securely grips the roof surface, even for roof pitches of 12/12. In addition, the shape of each base (212) is tailored to enable a pair of the footwear (210) to nest together, allowing the wearer to place his or her feet close together when desired. In a preferred embodiment, each base (212) is equipped with concave surface regions (228B, 232B) that receive convex portions (228A, 232A) of its mating shoe board (224) in a manner that provides an uncomplicated method of adjusting the pitch of the footwear (210) and securing the shoe board (224) to the base (212).
