A hydrogen/oxygen generation system includes an electrolyzer cell, a servo integrated controller, a power control module, a voltage/current feedback device and a temperature feedback device. Servo closed loop control is used to efficiently and effectively produce hydrogen and oxygen gases.

The technique for electronically resetting a magnetically sealed solenoid to an unattracted, unactuated position is described for use with solenoids which have either a residual magnetic or a permanent magnet holding force necessary to retain the armature of the solenoid in its actuated position until such time as the armature is either physically displaced by a mechanical force or an electronic signal is applied to the solenoid. This displacement creates a reverse polarity magnetic field, effectively overcoming the magnetic field acting to hold the armature in its actuated position, permitting a small mechanical force to reset the armature. In order to prevent a lock or similar device from being conditioned for opening and possibly left in that condition for a significant period of time while unattended, jeopardizing the security of the container and its contents, the actuation of the armature in the reset or release phase may occur a relatively short time following its actuation.

An electronic lock is provided with an emergency technique by which the lock may be possibly opened in the event that the electronic memory used to store the authorized combinations for operation in unlocking of the lock becomes corrupted, damaged or is unable to provide a valid read of storage locations containing combinations. Upon the determination that an invalid read has occurred and that the invalid read has been verified for at least a plurality of additional read cycles, the lock is conditioned to accept an otherwise inoperable master combination for purposes of opening the lock. Under the prescribed conditions, the master combination is capable of opening the lock and providing access to the interior of the container carrying the lock, thus permitting either replacement or repair of the lock and also simultaneously eliminating the need for drilling or other destructive access to the interior of the container.

An interactive ink jet printer prints characters of a language from left to right or right to left in accordance with the direction in which the language is normally written. The signals for the direction in which a motor, which moves ink droplet supply device relative to a recording medium, the signals from a grating, which indicates the direction of motion of the ink droplet supply device and its position relative to a reference position, and the signals for the location of the ink droplet supply device at the reference position are changed whenever the direction of character printing is to be reversed.

Multilingual ink jet printer

Disclosed is a multi speed ink jet printer in which alternate vertical scans of the ink stream may be omitted or alternate dots horizontally may be omitted or a combination of the two. In the alternate vertical scan omit mode, a factor of two increases in the speed of printing may be obtained, the same being true of a horizontal row dot omission. Moreover, a combination of the two permits up to a four times speed increase. In essence, while the rate of the ink stream remains constant, the predetermined maximum number of dots (picture elements) in a character box is decreased (resolution decreased) to permit an increase in the speed of printing.

An ink jet printer in which the nozzle for emitting a stream of ink drops, the charge electrode for charging ink drops in accordance with signals to be recorded, and the deflection electrodes for providing an electric field therebetween to deflect ink drops in accordance with the magnitude of the charges on the drops, are mounted on a carrier which moves relative to an ink drop record receiving media for forming images indicative of the signals on the deflected ink drops. To compensate for the inclination of the image formed by the carrier movement relative to the recording media, a voltage gradient or difference is applied across at least one of the deflection electrodes so as to effect electric field distortion intermediate the electrodes to thereby compensate for the slant due to carrier motion. The amount of distortion is controlled by monitoring the carrier velocity and automatically feeding back a signal to the distortion creating voltage difference to control the voltage difference dependent upon carrier velocity.

Insertion of guard drops on a variable basis within a drop segment of an ink jet raster has been found to be highly successful in producing quality printing. A typical sequence is

Printing apparatus has an ink jet printhead mounted on a carrier for movement during printing of characters between left and right margin locations relative to a document. A directionally oriented grating and associated circuitry is provided to maintain a record of character and ink drop printing locations. The printhead begins its movement prior to the left margin location and sweeps toward the right margin for printing of an entire line of characters. Thereafter, the printhead is returned to the aforesaid position prior to the left margin in readiness for another line sweeping action. Provision is made for testing carrier velocities encountered in movement to the right during printing as well as to the left during carrier return and for determining optimum times of operation of the carrier return magnet and its release in order to reduce time required for carrier turnaround.

A font selection system is provided that is useful in conjunction with ink jet printing apparatus. Facilities are included for storing data representative of one or more fonts or character sets and for selecting these on a font basis or a character basis during printing operations.
