An apparatus for controlling the number of turns made and the torque applied during the operation of making a threaded joint includes a high resolution turns counter. The turns counter senses the rotation of a member of the joint and generates a pulsed signal, each pulse representing a predetermined increment of rotation. The turns counter includes an idler wheel driven by one member of the joint and in turn driving an encoder which generates a relatively large number of pulses per revolution of the idler wheel. A presettable divide-by-N circuit is utilized to divide the encoder pulses to generate a pulse train to a monitoring and control apparatus for indicating whether a good or a bad joint has been made. The divide-by-N counter can be preset to generate a predetermined number of pulses per revolution of the joint member or pulses representing a predetermined percentage of a total number of turns to be made.

An apparatus is provided for controlling the speed of rotation of a joint member during the operation of making a threaded joint. At lower speeds of rotation, a counter means receives clock pulses generated at a predetermined frequency and counts down from a stored value representing the elapsed time for a maximum rate at which turn signal pulses generated during predetermined increments of rotation of the joint member should be generated. If the elapsed time between the turn signal pulses is less than or equal to the stored time, a signal is generated to slow down the joint making operation. At higher speeds of rotation, a counter means receives the turn signal pulses and counts down from a stored value representing the maximum number of turn signal pulses which should be generated in a predetermined time interval. If the turn signal pulse total exceeds the maximum number during the predetermined time interval, the slow down signal is generated.

A fibrinogen monitor for use in monitoring the concentration of iodinated fibrinogen distribution in the calf and thigh veins of bed-restricted patients. The fibrinogen monitor is an improved scintillation detector which a hospital staff member can manipulate using one hand to detect and record scintillation events at measured points along the leg of a patient while leaving the other hand free to aid in positioning the leg. The output of the monitor is digitized and provided both as a visual display and as a hard-copy record. The geometrical configuration of the probe of the monitor provides for increased sensitivity to gamma radiation without an attendant increase in probe size.

Fibrinogen monitor

A radiation analyzer which measures radiation from a plurality of radiation sources in a single measurement cycle to distinguish between the radioactivity level received from a plurality of radiation sources. The radiation level of one of the sources may be known so that that source serves as a radiation standard with which to compare the other sources. Alternatively, the sources may all be known and the comparative radioactivity levels utilized to obtain information concerning some other parameter, such as external attenuation.

Analyzing radiation from a plurality of sources

A radiation analyzer which employs a single photodetector and a plurality of scintillators. Light filters interposed between selected ones of the scintillators selectively attenuate radiation of a predetermined energy range. Plural analyzers each associated with a single scintillator and each receiving electrical pulses from the photodetector attenuated to a different degree are adjusted to tabulate pulses of amplitudes which differ in accordance with the degree of attenuation of pulses received by the analyzers from the photodetector.
