Described herein are methods, compositions, and kits for treating and/or preventing in a subject one or more side effects associated with radiation and/or chemotherapy exposure, including methods, compositions and kits that include an active agent at a low dose. In some embodiments, methods, compositions, and kits for treating and/or preventing tissue damage in a subject are provided, including methods, compositions and kits that include an active agent at a low dose.

Methods, compositions, and kits for treating and/or preventing a side effect associated with radiation and/or chemotherapy exposure

A method of treating pruritus (itching) in a subject in need thereof is carried out by administering the subject an active agent in a treatment effective amount, wherein the active agent is a superoxide dismuate (SOD) mimetic. The SOD mimetic can be a complex of a metal (e.g., manganese) and an organic ligand, with suitable organic ligands including porphyrins, polyamines, salens, nitroxides, and fullerenes. Compositions for carrying out such methods are also described.

Methods of treating pruritus

An active agent for use in a method of, or for use in the preparation of a medicament for, treating or inhibiting the development of erectile dysfunction and/or incontinence following pelvic radiation treatment in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering said subject an active agent in a treatment effective amount, is described. The active agent has the general structure of Formula I: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

Methods of treating erectile dysfunction

A method of treating a skin disorder (e.g., an inflammatory or neoplastic skin disorder) in a subject in need thereof is carried out by administering (e.g., topically administering) the subject an active agent in a treatment effective amount. The active agent may be a compound of Formula I: wherein: each R is independently selected substituted or unsubstituted aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl, or heterocycloalkyl; each A is an independently selected hydrogen, an electron-withdrawing group, or electron donating group; M is a metal; and Zis a counterion; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 

Methods of treating skin disorders

An active agent for use in a method of, or for use in the preparation of a medicament for, treating or inhibiting the development of erectile dysfunction and/or incontinence following pelvic radiation treatment in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering said subject an active agent in a treatment effective amount, is described. The active agent has the general structure of Formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. 

Embodiments herein report compositions of alpha-1 antitrypsin fusion polypeptides or peptide derivatives thereof. In certain embodiments, compositions and methods relate to generating a construct of use in pharmaceutically acceptable compositions to treat a subject in need of alpha-1 antitrypsin therapy or treatment. In other embodiments, compositions and methods disclosed herein concern linking alpha-1 antitrypsin or derivative thereof to an immune fragment.

Compositions, methods and uses for alpha-1 antitrypsin fusion molecules

The present invention relates, in general, to a method of modulating physiological and pathological processes and, in particular, to a method of modulating cellular levels of oxidants and thereby processes in which such oxidants are a participant. The invention also relates to compounds and compositions suitable for use in such methods.

Substituted porphyrins

Embodiments described herein relate to compositions, methods and uses for alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) or derivatives or analogs or peptides or mutants thereof for treating a subject exposed to radiation. In certain embodiments, AAT or derivatives thereof or analogs thereof can be used to modulate adverse effects of radiation therapy on subjects undergoing treatment for cancer. In other embodiments, compositions disclosed herein can be used for treating a subject having been exposed to non-therapeutic or accidental radiation. Some embodiments reported herein concern compositions and methods for enhancing radiotherapy. Certain embodiments relate to methods and compositions for preventing or reducing radiation exposure-induced cellular damage in a subject.

Method for ameliorating radiation exposure effects with alpha-1 antitrypsin

The present invention relates, in general, to cancer therapy, and, in particular, to a method of preventing or treating cancer using low molecular weight antioxidants (e.g., mimetics of superoxide dismutase (SOD)) as the active agent or as a chemo- and/or radio-protectant. The invention also relates to compounds and compositions suitable for use in such a method.

Cancer therapy

The present invention relates, in one embodiment, to a method of preventing or treating diabetes using low molecular weight antioxidants. In a further embodiment, the invention relates to a method of protecting and/or enhancing viability of cells/tissues/organs during isolation (harvesting), preservation, expansion and/or transplantation. In yet another embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of inducing immune tolerance. The invention also relates to compounds and compositions suitable for use in such methods.
