A spreading device is disclosed including two impellers mounted to rotate in rotational correspondence about their axes toward one another as the device is moved in a forwardly advancing direction so as to broadcast particulate materials deposited thereon in a controlled distribution pattern along a predetermined distribution path generally in the direction of advancement of the device onto a selected target area.

Portable spreader

A hand held spreading device is disclosed for broadcast spreading material via a rotating impeller. The device has an actuating assemly including an actuating member and a dual spring arrangement interconnected with the actuating member. One of the springs causes material to be discharged onto the impeller in response to movement of the actuating member and prevents damage of the device resulting from excessive movement of the actuating member. The second spring biases the actuating member to move to an idle position in which no material is discharged onto the impeller and causes the actuating member to return to this idle position after movement thereof.

Rotary spreader

A rotary spreader for particulate material having a hopper for the particulate material and an impeller adapted to broadcast the material as it is discharged from the hopper. The impeller has a ridge enclosing the central portion of the impeller and the impeller is mounted in close proximity to the hopper so that discharged material is contained within the enclosed central portion of the impeller to stop further flow of particulate material when the impeller is not rotating.

A liquid applicator for dispensing a chemical, such as a herbicide, in dilute aqueous form. The applicator has a first container adapted to contain a concentrated chemical and a second container adapted to receive chemical from the first container prediluted with water. A valve controls the flow of chemical and water from the first to the second container and controls the flow of water to an aspirator which further dilutes and discharges the chemical.

Liquid chemical applicator

A liquid applicator for dispensing a chemical in dilute aqueous form. The applicator comprises a conduit adapted at one end for connection with a water source and at another end for the discharge of a chemical in dilute aqueous form. Two containers are connected with the conduit one adapted to contain a concentrated liquid chemical, the other adapted to contain the chemical premixed with water. The containers are connected with the conduit in series with a two stage aspirator so that concentrated chemical from the first container is mixed with water and passed into the second container and the mixture is then further diluted and discharged from the applicator.

Combined fertilizer and pesticide applicator for plants

A manually operated applicator for distributing controlled quantities of particulate fertilizer or pesticide to container-grown ornamentals. The applicator comprises a hopper, an elongated discharge conduit extending below the hopper and a control located in the upper part of the discharge conduit for precise control of the quantity of particulate material distributed from the applicator. The control comprises one or more rotors horizontally mounted for rotation within a cylindrical housing, the rotors containing cavities therein for metering the amount of particulate material. The rotor is spaced from the housing to form an annular clearance to permit a small but controlled quantity of particulate material to enter the clearance. The rotor is mounted on a shaft journaled on bearings at both ends, one of the bearings being axially adjustable to accommodate varying numbers of rotors or rotors of varying axial thickness. The rotors are manually cranked by a suitable arm attached to the shaft.

Manually operated applicator having a plurality of rotors for dispensing

A material spreader for the uniform distribution to the soil or to vegetation of particulate material such as fertilizers, pesticides or seeds. The material spreader comprises a hopper for particulate material adapted to be advanced along a given direction, the hopper including an outlet for discharging the particulate material downwardly, an impeller in association with the outlet for broadcasting the discharged material in a generally radial path surrounding the axis of discharge, and a shroud surrounding the impeller aligned to intersect the path of the broadcast material and to deflect the material downwardly to a region of controlled configuration. The shroud is curved, preferably elliptically in horizontal cross-section and has a width along the direction of advance of the spreader which is less than the width along a direction transverse to the direction of advance. The discharge outlet in the spreader is preferably symmetrically aligned with the impeller so that the material is broadcast in a substantially 360.degree. path around the axis of discharge.
