In one embodiment, a method is executed by a computer system. The method includes receiving information related to a platform-portable workload, the information comprising a data security policy expressed as digitally signed metadata. The data security policy specifies one or more data security features that any platform executing the platform-portable workload should implement. The method further includes validating the digitally signed metadata as originating from an issuer of the platform-portable workload. In addition, the method includes, responsive to successful validation of the digitally signed metadata, automatically determining whether a particular platform can satisfy the data security policy based, at least in part, on a comparison of the digitally signed metadata with data security attributes of the particular platform. Further, the method includes, responsive to a determination that the particular platform cannot satisfy the data security policy, automatically preventing execution of the platform-portable workload on the particular platform.

A method for manufacturing an information handling system is disclosed wherein the method includes receiving an order for an information handling system (IHS), wherein the IHS comprises at least one virtual machine (VM) and determining a number of physical systems and an amount of storage required for the IHS. The method may also include providing the number of physical systems and the amount of storage and providing virtualization software for the number of physical systems, wherein the virtualization software is utilized to create the at least one virtual machine. The method further includes pre-configuring a plurality of parameters for the at least one VM.

A virtual drive data storage refactoring system includes a base drive and a plurality of virtual drives hierachly below the base drive. The virtual drives each include data storage blocks and a virtual drive controller system. The virtual drive controller system coordinates data storage on the drives by computing a signature for each data storage block, creating a list of data content for each data storage block that is sorted according to the signatures, locating the signatures for each data storage block that appear on each of the virtual drives, arranging data storage blocks on the virtual drives so that those having data content that is the same are located in corresponding locations on each of the virtual drives, and removing data storage blocks having data content that is the same from each of the virtual drives to a data storage drive that is hierarchly above the virtual drives.

Refactoring virtual data storage hierarchies

A virtual drive data storage refactoring system includes a base drive, a plurality of virtual drives coupled to the base drive and hierachly below the base drive, wherein the virtual drives each include a plurality of data storage blocks and a virtual drive controller system. The virtual drive controller system is operable to coordinate data storage on the base drive and the plurality of virtual drives. The virtual drive controller system is operable to compute a signature for each data storage block, create a list of data content for each data storage block, wherein the list is sorted according to the signature for each data storage block, locate the signatures for each data storage block that appear on each of the virtual drives, arrange the data storage blocks on the virtual drives so that data storage blocks having data content that is the same, are located in corresponding locations on each of the virtual drives, and remove the data storage blocks having data content that is the same from each of the virtual drives to a data storage drive that is hierarchly above the virtual drives.

A system and method are disclosed for the transcoding of data from a first format to a second format. A data format transcoder receives a request for data from a requester. The desired format of the requested data is determined. A descriptor file containing formatting information describing the requested format is loaded into the data format transcoder. The requested data is retrieved in its native format along with its corresponding common descriptor. The requested data is read in its native format, using the formatting information from its associated common descriptor. The data format transcoder then uses the formatting information in the common descriptor of the requested format to perform transcoding operations to convert the requested data from its native format into the requested format.

Adaptive storage system transcoder

A method supports secure input/output (I/O) communications between an I/O device and a data processing system via a keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch. An example embodiment includes the operations of establishing a first secure communication channel between the KVM switch and the I/O device and establishing a second secure communication channel between the KVM switch and the data processing system. In addition, I/O data may be received at the KVM switch from the I/O device via the first secure communication channel. In response to receipt of the I/O data from the I/O device, the I/O data may be transmitted from the KVM switch to the data processing system via the second secure communication channel. Embodiments may also include support for non-secure channels between the KVM switch and nonsecured I/O devices, nonsecured data processing systems, or both.

Secured KVM switch

A method supports secure input/output (I/O) communications between an I/O device and a data processing system via a keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch. An example embodiment includes the operations of establishing a first secure communication channel between the KVM switch and the I/O device and establishing a second secure communication channel between the KVM switch and the data processing system. In addition, I/O data may be received at the KVM switch from the I/O device via the first secure communication channel. In response to receipt of the I/O data from the I/O device, the I/O data may be transmitted from the KVM switch to the data processing system via the second secure communication channel. Embodiments may also include support for non-secure channels between the KVM switch and non-secured I/O devices, non-secured data processing systems, or both.
