A gas compressor is disclosed that includes a first rotor having a first rotor body, the first rotor body including a plurality of helical lobes, an infernal volume within the first rotor body defined by a wall, and a turbine disposed within the internal volume, the turbine including a turbine body and a plurality of airfoils extending substantially radially from the turbine body to the wall, where the internal volume is structured to enable a cooling fluid to flow therethrough. The gas compressor further includes a second rotor body including a plurality of helical flutes, an inlet manifold and an outlet manifold, both disposed within the second rotor body, and a body channel within at least one flute extending from and in fluid communication with the inlet manifold to the outlet manifold, where the body channel is structured to enable a cooling fluid to flow therethrough.

A gas-water separation system may be used for removing water from a wet gas compressed in a water-injected contact-cooled gas compressor. The gas-water separation system may include a tank constructed to hold a quantity of water; a heat exchanger coupled to the tank and constructed to extract heat from the water to chill the water when the water is present within the tank; an inlet port constructed to inject a flow of the wet gas into the chilled water when the water is present within the tank, the chilled water being operative to condense water vapor from the wet gas and reduce the dew point of the wet gas to yield a chilled compressed gas; a biological control system constructed to suppress biological activity in the tank; and a discharge port operative to discharge the chilled compressed gas.

Gas-water separation system and methods

An integrated power generation system is provided. The system includes an heat source that produces a first gas flow to power a turbine operatively coupled to a compressor. The first gas flow can also heat a feedwater flow passing through a boiler. The compressor can produce a second gas flow that may be divided in two portions, the first portion flowing back to the heat source and the second portion flowing to an end user. Also, the second portion may be routed through an air cooler to dissipate heat to the feedwater flow to cool the second portion as well as preheat the feedwater flow prior to entering the boiler. The first portion can also exchange heat with the first gas flow exiting the boiler prior to the first portion entering the heat source. The boiler operation and the compressor operation are operable independently or concurrently.

A compressor system includes a compressor having a rotor; a bearing supporting the rotor, wherein the bearing is disposed in a bearing cavity; and wherein the bearing has a near frictionless coating; and a purge gas system in fluid communication with the bearing cavity and constructed to purge air from the bearing cavity and supply the bearing cavity with the purge gas during operation of the compressor. The purge gas can be nitrogen and the near frictionless coating can be a near-frictionless diamond-like carbon coating.

A compressor and waste heat recovery system is disclosed in which mechanical work from a prime mover along with work generated from the waste heat recovery system are used to operate the compressor. A gas producing system is heated by waste heat from operation of the compressor to produce a stream of gas used to drive a turbine. The turbine is in work communication with the compressor. In one embodiment the gas producing system is a metal hydride. An overrunning clutch can be used with the turbine. In one form multiple gas producing systems are used, one of which to emit gas while the other is used to receive and capture the emitted gas.

The present disclosure provides a compressor system having at least one fluid compressor for compressing a working fluid. A lubrication supply system is operable for supplying lubrication fluid to the compressor. A closed loop cooling system using R718 refrigerant is provided to cool the working fluid. The closed loop cooling system includes a refrigerant compressor for compressing the refrigerant, a condenser operable for receiving compressed refrigerant gas and removing heat to form liquid refrigerant, and an expansion device for expanding and cooling the liquid refrigerant into a cooled gaseous refrigerant.

The present disclosure provides a compressor system operable for compressing a working fluid such as air. A conditioner is positioned upstream of the compressor to reduce the humidity and in some embodiments may control a temperature of the working fluid entering the compressor. A working fluid aftercooler and a lubricant cooler is positioned downstream of the compressor. A first heat exchange system directs water from a source through the conditioner and then to the aftercooler and oil cooler in parallel. A second heat exchange system directs oil from the compressor to the oil cooler and then to a regenerator prior to reentry into the compressor. A control system with one or more control valves is configured to provide oil to the compressor at a target temperature defined to ensure that the temperature of the discharged compressor is above a pressure dew point temperature.

A rotor for a compressor system includes a rotor body having a coolant manifold with an inlet runner and a plurality of coolant supply conduits extending from the inlet runner toward an inner heat exchange surface. The coolant supply conduits may have a circumferential and axial distribution, and extend through struts enhancing stiffness in the rotor body.

A compressor system is disclosed that includes at least one fluid compressor for compressing a working fluid and a lubrication supply system operable for supplying lubrication fluid to the compressor. A heat exchanger is provided for controlling the temperature of the lubrication fluid. The heat exchanger includes a housing for holding a plurality of lubrication fluid passageways. A shape memory alloy (SMA) member is positioned within at least one of the plurality of lubrication fluid passageways to increase turbulence in the lubrication fluid at relatively high temperatures.

The present disclosure provides a compressor system operable for compressing a working fluid such as air. A conditioner is positioned upstream of the compressor to reduce the humidity and may in certain forms control a temperature of the working fluid entering the compressor. An aftercooler and an oil cooler is positioned downstream of the compressor. A first heat exchange system may direct water from a source through the conditioner to the aftercooler and oil cooler. An oil heat exchange circuit directs oil from the compressor to the oil cooler and then to a regenerator prior to reentry into the compressor. A control system is operable for controlling portions of compressor system to provide inlet air to the compressor at a desired temperature and humidity.

A fluid expander is disclosed as used in conjunction with an air compressor that is driven by a prime mover. The fluid expander is structured to extract useful work from a fluid stream and add that work to the work provided by the prime mover to the compressor. In some embodiments a clutch can be used to decouple the expander from the compressor if insufficient work is developed by the expander. A gear train can also be used to change the rotational speed prior to work being delivered to the compressor.

A compressor includes a rotor having an outer compression surface and a plurality of inner heat exchange surfaces. A coolant supply manifold fluidly connects with a coolant inlet in a first axial end of the rotor, and delivers coolant fluid by way of conduits having an axial distribution in the rotor so as to deliver coolant fluid to the heat exchange surfaces. The coolant may be a refrigerant that undergoes a phase change within the rotor.

An integrated absorption refrigeration and dehumidification system includes an absorber containing an absorption solution, an after-cooler having a flow path to receive the solution and a flow path to receive a warm fluid, the flow paths being thermally coupled to separate a refrigerant from the solution, and an auxiliary heat exchanger having a flow path to receive the solution from the after-cooler and a flow path to receive a warm fluid, the flow paths being thermally coupled to separate more refrigerant from the solution. The system also includes a condenser positioned to receive and cool the refrigerant from the auxiliary heater, an expansion valve positioned to receive the refrigerant from the condenser, an evaporator positioned to receive the refrigerant from the expansion valve and the warm fluid from the after-cooler, and a separator to remove condensate from the warm fluid from the after-cooler or a cool fluid from the evaporator.

A gas compression system includes a flow of compressed gas, a separator positioned to receive the flow of compressed gas and discharge a second flow of compressed gas and a flow of condensate, and a flow of compressed refrigerant. A heat exchanger is positioned to receive the flow of condensate and the flow of compressed refrigerant. The heat exchanger is arranged such that the flow of condensate cools the flow of refrigerant.

Energy recovery system and method for a refrigerated dehumidification process

A dryer assembly for drying compressed fluid received from a fluid compressor. The dryer assembly comprises a compressed fluid circuit and a refrigeration circuit associated with the compressed fluid circuit and configured to reduce the temperature of the compressed fluid and to remove condensate from the compressed fluid. The dryer includes means for manipulating the dryer to regulate the rate of heat transfer between the compressed fluid circuit and the refrigeration circuit. A first sensor senses the lowest temperature of the compressed fluid after the compressed fluid has passed the refrigeration circuit and a second sensor senses a reference temperature. A controller is configured to receive the lowest temperature and reference temperature from the sensors and to determine a relative humidity based on the lowest temperature and the reference temperature. The controller controls the means for manipulating the dryer in response to the determined relative humidity.
