The instant invention concernsbacteria mediated degradation of alkaline phosphatase (AP). Detection of AP degradation may be used to determine the presence ofbacteria in a sample. Furthermore, methods for identifying and treatinginfections by detecting AP degradation are described. Methods of the invention also concerns methods for treatinginfection by inhibiting AP degradation.

Peptides comprising repetitive units of amino acids and DNA sequences

A male/female quick-connect system is provided which is adapted to sealingly couple to the opening of a container of liquid product. The female component of the system is adapted to couple to any standard 3/4' plumbing fitment and/or 1/4' ID standpipe and is self-venting so that any stock container can be used without modification. The male component which sealingly couples to the female component is provided with a barbed tip adapted to receive a variety of feed line sizes. A one-way elastomeric valve is disposed in the male member which only allows product to flow therethrough when the male component is coupled to a source of vacuum thereby preventing product from flowing back into the container. A shipping plug is provided which sealingly couples to the female component during shipping and/or storage of a container of liquid product which, in one preferred embodiment, is adapted with a one-way vent valve to allow excess pressure to be expelled from within the container while preventing outside contaminants from entering therein.

Quick connect coupling system

Methods are provided for the production of large polypeptides containing repeating sequences of amino acids utilizing biochemical techniques, specifically DNA sequences coding for the expression of the large polypeptides. Systems utilizing exogenous transcriptional and translational regions to control the production of the large polypeptides are also provided.

Construction of synthetic DNA and its use in large polypeptide synthesis

A crane or lifting device includes a base assembly with a telescopic and rotatable column mounting a boom assembly including a telescopic boom arm. A strap is connected at one end thereof to the base assembly, extends through the boom arm, and is connected at another end thereof to a hook for engaging a load. An extensible/retractable jack assembly innerconnects the column and the boom arm for raising and lowering the boom arm. The crane can be mounted in an automobile trunk for raising and lowering the boom assembly.
