A method and apparatus for controlling the load presented to one or more power sources such as a power grid, backup power generator or solar panel is described. By selectively connecting, disconnecting, limiting and controlling various loads which are powered, the power grid service connection and power sources may be economically sized and operated while allowing reliability and convenience in selecting and powering loads. The control of the loads connected to the power sources is prioritized by various parameters including the power source operation parameters including load handling capability, type of load, load size, environmental factors, load usage during and subsequent to load connection, load priority and operator wishes. The control may also operate to facilitate transfer of power from one power source or load to another power source or load.

An invention for measuring, maintaining and correcting synchronization between signals which suffer varying relative delays during transmission and/or storage is shown. The present invention teaches measuring the relative delay between a plurality of signals which have suffered differing delays due to transmission, storage or other processing. The preferred embodiment of the invention includes the use of a marker which is generated in response to a second signal and combined with a first signal in a manner which ensures that the marker will not be lost in the expected processing of the first signal. Subsequently a first delayed marker is generated in response to the marker associated with or recovered from the first signal, and a second delayed marker is generated from the second signal. The first delayed marker and second delayed marker are compared to determine a measure of the relative timing or delay between said first signal and said second signal at said subsequent time.

The present invention provides a phase shifting apparatus and method. The phase shifting apparatus comprises a signal generator and a converting device. An input signal is converted by the offset signals from the signal generator, thereby producing an output signal with the same frequency as that of the input signal. The phase of the output signal is determined by the difference of the offset signals applied to the converting device. In particular, when two offset signals are in quadrature, the output signal becomes in quadrature with the input signal. When the two offset signals have the same phase, the output signal has the same phase as that of the input signal. Preferably, the converting device includes two cascaded offset means, each having a multiplier and a filter coupling to the multiplier. A plurality of converting means may be coupled in parallel to the signal generator. On the basis of the offset signals applied to respective converting means, the phase shifting apparatus provides a plurality of outputs having different phase shifts. The frequency range of the input signal is very width and the phase shifting apparatus may operate in analog and digital forms.

The apparatus and method described herein shows a system of determining the delay of a delayed version of a sequence of images with respect to a relatively undelayed version. The system operates to take multiple samples of the delayed and undelayed versions at approximately the same sample position on the image and to correlate these samples over multiple image frames to determine which of a plurality of delayed images most closely match a given undelayed image. By knowing which delayed image frame most closely matches a given undelayed image frame it is shown to arrive at a coarse number of frames of delay. A fine delay measurement is achieved by adding a measure of the instantaneous frame to frame delay with respect to a known corresponding feature of the respective video type signals. The invention is also useful for comparing a given image to other images to determine the closest match.
