A frame for portable above-ground swimming pools and, more particularly, a frame for above-ground swimming pools having a top rail, formed in sections, that is pivotally attached to the frame vertical supports. Each top rail section is installed at the top of the vertical supports in a vertical position that is about 90&deg; from a horizontal axis, allowing access to the interior area of the pool frame for installation and attachment of the sheet metal swimming pool wall. Once the top rails sections are assembled, the frame is free-standing and the pool wall may be installed and attached to the frame without partial disassembly of the frame or removal and replacement of the top rail sections. Once the swimming pool wall and liner are installed, the top rail sections are rotated 90&deg; along the horizontal axis, securing the wall and liner, and are locked into place. The invention further provides a method for installing an above-ground swimming pool in the sequential steps described above.

An improved incentive spirometer having a modular goal recording counter (GRC) releasably attached thereto for enabling a patient to view the number of times a predetermined respiratory therapy inhalation exercise has been properly performed. The GRC also includes a coaching lamp to facilitate the patient's maintaining the desired flow rate of inspiratory air for a predetermined time period. The GRC is operational in one mode to initiate a count of the number of successful exercise completions beginning with &ldquo;0&rdquo;, and in another operational mode to retain and recall the count of the number of successful exercises previously completed. The operation of the GRC is controlled by a microcontroller which controls the operation of the GRC and the electrical circuit connected thereto is designed to minimize the power requirements of the components when the GRC is placed in the retain and recall mode of operation.

A single switch is utilized within a common ground line to control the current flow through a plurality of loads, whereby power to all of these loads may be interrupted by opening the system ground return so that power can be supplied to a particular component of the circuit, a microprocessor, to the exclusion of all remaining components by the operation of a single switch.

A small, lightweight, disposable blood flow monitor adhered directly to the skin of a patient above the vessel being monitored, such as an artery. A transducer generates an electric signal representative of a deflection of a vessel wall due to pulsatile pressure, which deflection is enhanced by a thin conductive substrate providing a mechanical advantage for the detected deflection. Control circuitry periodically stores a peak value of a deflection caused by a systolic pulse. A reference value is obtained by pressing a calibrate switch to store a value representing a systolic pulse encountered during a calibration interval. Peak values of systolic pulses are stored at predetermined intervals and compared with the reference value. A simplified display, preferably comprised of LEDs of different colors respectively represent a normal, slightly abnormal and significantly more abnormal conditions. The monitor, once turned on, remains on throughout its useful operating life. The reference value may be selected or reselected at any given time. The monitor may be comprised of custom circuitry or may utilize a microprocessor having a stored operating program.

Miniature disposable blood flow monitor

A system for monitoring a variable output paper processing device is provided. The monitoring system includes a counter which counts the number of papers processed and provides a count signal for each counted paper. A controller receives the count signals and totals the counts. The controller transmits the total count to a central station through a modem after either a predetermined time or a predetermined count. Internal diagnostic signals in the printing device are intercepted as they are transmitted to an internal display device of the printing device and transmitted to the central computer through the modem.

Photocopy monitoring system

A sequence of data groups are modulated at a central location and coupled to a telephone line in response to a call-up signal. The sequence is transmitted through the telephone lines to a remote computer. The computer receives the signals, demodulates them, and couples them to a moemory. The data is stored at a particular address, and in coupling the data to the memory, the computer checks a flag at that address to determine whether the data has already been written over. When the flags indicate that the data received corresponds to data already written over, it signals the end of a transmission. The data stored in the memory can be accessed by an operator using input controls.

Data transmission and storage

The invention is generally directed to a video apparatus for storing video images on a recording medium and replaying the stored images on a display. A camera mechanism converts light images into electrical video signals. A processor circuitry coupled to the camera mechanism includes means for converting the electronic video signals into a low bandwidth frequency modulated storage signal with the bandwidth substantially lower than in a standard television video signal. A recording mechanism coupled to the processing means stores the low bandwidth frequency modulated storage signal on an audio cassette, which has a standard speed allowing storage of an audio bandwidth signal. The recording mechanism includes a drive mechanism for driving the audio cassette at higher than normal speed to increase the bandwidth storage capacity of the audio cassette. A recording head mechanism stores the low bandwidth frequency modulated storage signal on the audio cassette. The video apparatus also includes a switch mechanism for switching the video apparatus from a record mode where video images are stored on an audio cassette to a playback mode where the stored images are read off the audio cassette and displayed on the video display. In playback mode, the low bandwidth video signal is converted to a higher frequency standard television bandwidth video signal for display. The rate conversion from a low bandwidth video signal to a standard television video signal is performed by a 'ping-pong' digital memory system. The video apparatus also adjusts the sensitivity of the camera mechanism by adjusting the exposure time of the camera mechanism based on the incident light.

Apparatus for storing video signals on audio cassette

An electronic sketching device. The electronic sketching device includes a display for providing a visual representation of a sketch on a display area. The electronic sketching device also including a cursor controller for moving a cursor on the display and a sketch controller for selectively storing the placement of the cursor on the display area as a pixel to create a sketch on the display area. A storage device, which is coupled to the sketch controller, stores a plurality of sketches. The electronic sketching device also contains a sketch memory for creating and storing a sequence of sketches which is coupled to the storage device. An animater, coupled to the storage device, sketch memory and the display, causes the stored sequence of sketches to be sequentially displayed on the display.

A video apparatus for storing video images on a recording medium and replaying the stored images on a display includes a camera which converts light images into electrical video signals. A processor coupled to the camera converts the electronic video signals into a low bandwidth frequency modulated storage signal with the bandwidth substantially lower than in a standard television video signal. A recorder coupled to the processor stores the low bandwidth frequency modulated storage signal on an audio cassette, which has a standard speed allowing storage of an audio bandwidth signal. The recorder includes a drive for driving the cassette at higher than normal speed to increase the bandwidth storage capacity of the cassette. The video apparatus also includes a switch mechanism for switching the video apparatus from a record mode where video images are stored on the cassette to a playback mode where the stored images are read off the cassette and displayed on the video display. In playback mode, the low bandwidth video signal is converted to a higher frequency standard television bandwidth video signal for display.
