An implant device configured to be at least partially in contact with bone on implantation has an improved osteoinductive feature to enhance new bone formation. The implant device has one or more bone growth surfaces extending from a structurally solid feature of the implant device. The one or more bone growth surfaces are configured to mimic adult trabecular bone by having trenches, grooves or surface recesses or prominences exhibiting numerous structural elements or walls not perpendicular to the surface that are non-coplanar or arched extending 20 to 500 microns in depth having an increasing inclination from the surface extending inwardly and not parallel to opposing or adjacent walls forming a random or non-random network. The one or more bone growth surfaces configured to mimic trabecular bone have discernable nano features on the structural elements or walls exhibiting nano scale features of less than 200 nano meters within the network.

Methods of providing enhanced bone growth surfaces on an implant device

A surgical drain system for use during and following surgery is provided. A collection reservoir is placed in fluid communication with the body of a user through a collection port. A pump creates a vacuum pressure to urge fluid into the collection reservoir. Fluid exits the collection reservoir through a drain port. A drain mechanism allows air to come into the collection reservoir through an air intake aperture and collected fluid to leave the reservoir simultaneously. The drain system can be worn beneath clothes.

An expandable, adjustable inter-body fusion device is presented. The inter-body fusion device can have a first plate, a second plate, and an insert positioned substantially therebetween the first plate and the second plate. The first plate, the second plate, and the insert define an interior cavity. Moving the insert longitudinally with respect to the first and second plates increases or decreases the distance of the first plate with respect to the second plate, effectively expanding the inter-body fusion device and increasing the volume of the interior cavity. The angle between the first plate and the second plate is selectively adjustable.

Expandable inter-body fusion devices and methods

An expandable assembly for insertion into an intervertebral space is presented. The assembly, in particular aspects, includes an elongate body comprising an upper portion and a lower portion. The assembly may include an expander that is sized and shaped for insertion between the upper portion and lower portion, thereby selectively expanding the upper portion away from the lower portion. The elongate body may also include one or more bone graft windows.

Expandable intervertebral cage assemblies

A cervical minimal access fusion system is presented. The system has a plate with a longitudinal axis and defining at least two bone screw bores therethrough and an inter-vertebral cage configured to be positioned between two adjacent cervical vertebrae. A method for a cervical minimal access fusion system is also presented. In one aspect, the method comprises the steps of accessing the facet joints of two adjacent cervical vertebrae, distracting the joints so as to increase the space between the two adjacent cervical vertebrae, placing an implant or structural bone graft in the space between the two adjacent cervical vertebrae to maintain the distraction, and compressing the two lateral masses to induce lordosis around the facet joint.

An expandable, adjustable inter-body fusion device is presented. The inter-body fusion device can have a first plate, a second plate, and an insert positioned substantially therebetween the first plate and the second plate. The first plate, the second plate, and the insert define an interior cavity. Rotation of the insert relative to the first and second plates increases or decreases the distance of the first plate with respect to the second plate, effectively expanding the inter-body fusion device and increasing the volume of the interior cavity. The angle between the first plate and the second plate is selectively adjustable.
