Embodiments include active protection systems and methods for an aerial platform. An onboard system includes one or more radar modules, detects aerial vehicles within a threat range of the aerial platform, and determines if any of the plurality of aerial vehicles are an aerial threat. The onboard system also determines an intercept vector to the aerial threat, communicates the intercept vector to an eject vehicle, and causes the eject vehicle to be ejected from the aerial platform to intercept the aerial threat. The eject vehicle includes a rocket motor to accelerate the eject vehicle along an intercept vector, alignment thrusters to rotate a longitudinal axis of the eject vehicle to substantially align with the intercept vector, and divert thrusters to divert the eject vehicle in a direction substantially perpendicular to the intercept vector. The eject vehicle activates at least one of the alignment thrusters responsive to the intercept vector.

Methods and apparatuses for active protection from aerial threats

Embodiments include active protection systems and methods for an aerial platform. An onboard system includes radar modules, detects aerial vehicles within a threat range of the aerial platform, and determines if any of the aerial vehicles are an aerial threat. The onboard system also determines an intercept vector to the aerial threat, communicates the intercept vector to an eject vehicle, and causes the eject vehicle to be ejected from the aerial platform to intercept the aerial threat. The eject vehicle includes alignment thrusters to rotate a longitudinal axis of the eject vehicle to substantially align with the intercept vector, a rocket motor to accelerate the eject vehicle along an intercept vector, divert thrusters to divert the eject vehicle in a direction substantially perpendicular to the intercept vector, and attitude control thrusters to make adjustments to the attitude of the eject vehicle.

Methods and apparatuses for aerial interception of aerial threats

Embodiments include engagement management systems and methods for managing engagement with aerial threats. Such systems include radar modules and detect aerial threats within a threat range of a base location. The systems also track intercept vehicles and control flight paths and detonation capabilities of the intercept vehicles. The systems are capable of communication between multiple engagement management systems and coordinated control of multiple intercept vehicles.

Methods and apparatuses for engagement management of aerial threats

A long baseline interferometer antenna system and method for determining the location of an emitter. The long baseline interferometer antenna system comprises a first antenna, a second antenna, an inertial navigation system, an antenna baseline measurement system, a multi-channel receiver and a processor. The first and second antenna elements are positioned on a platform and are both configured to receive signals from the emitter. The first and second antenna elements form a long baseline antenna pair. The inertial navigation system measures the platform position and attitude; and the antenna baseline measurement system measures the antenna baseline vector between the first and second antenna elements. The multi-channel receiver measures the differential phase between antenna pairs, and the processor computes the emitter location. Additional antenna elements can be included and some can be configured as squinted beam pair and make use of amplitude difference of arrival measurements.

Precision geolocation system and method using a long baseline interferometer antenna system

An amplifier subsystem has a modulator to generate a pair of constant amplitude phase-modulated components which are in response to an input signal, a pair of channels that include a pair of power amplifiers to amplify the components, and a combiner to combine the amplified components. A number of variable gain elements are coupled into some of a number of signal paths of the amplifier subsystem. A controller is to receive feedback from the amplifier subsystem and in response maintains signal levels of some of the signal paths within predefined ranges and controls a net gain of the linear amplifier, by adjusting the variable gain elements.

Management of internal signal levels and control of the net gain for a LINC amplifier

A calibration method and apparatus for calibrating and linearizing an amplifier in which an input signal is decomposed into N channels. Then the amplifier is modeled to generate an estimated amplifier transfer function for each channel. Using the estimated amplifier transfer function for each channel, equalizer values are computed for equalizers that are applied to each channel prior to amplification, thus enabling the amplification of amplitude and/or phase modulated signals via the non-linear amplifiers.

Closed loop calibration for an amplitude reconstruction amplifier

The present invention provides high power linear amplification of an amplitude and/or phase modulated signal using multiple saturated (or if desired, unsaturated) amplifiers driven by an appropriate set of switched, and/or phase modulated constant amplitude signals derived from the input signal. The present invention combines three amplitude reconstruction techniques and implements the amplitude reconstruction modulator digitally.
