In one embodiment, a method comprising selecting a first node included in a data structure, the data structure representing, in a node-and-link representation, a first portion of electronic content, the data structure including a first external link being associated with the first node, the first external link referencing a first serialization, the first serialization representing a second portion of electronic content in a representation differing from the node-and-link representation of the data structure, augmenting the data structure using the first serialization comprising constructing a set of new nodes, the set of new nodes including all nodes constructible from the serialization, selecting a target node from among the set of new nodes, inserting the target node into the data structure, and inserting a first inter-node link into the data structure, the first inter-node link connecting the first node and the target node, the first inter-node link corresponding to the first external link.

The manifest includes representations of each of the embedded files and the specified metadata. Each representation of the metadata is associated in the manifest with representations of one or more corresponding files of the embedded files. The manifest includes presentation information defining how the representations will be presented to a user.

Prototype facsimiles of each symbol in a library are enhanced by averaging the representations of each scanned symbol with a respective previously created prototype facsimile for that symbol. A bit-image printer is disclosed, having a page memory, a font memory and a font library. Fonts are selected from the library for use in composing a page image in the page memory. Loading of font characters into the page memory is controlled by the position of a cursor located within page memory. The font characters include cursor parameters which control the loading of the character into page memory, based upon current cursor position, and control movement of the cursor to a new location, in preparation for loading of the next character into page memory. After a page image is composed, the image is used to control an LED printhead which images the photoconductor of a xerographic reproduction device.
