The compressed air source is configured to draw air from an air source. The primary conduit is configured to receive the air from the compressed air source. The probe is configured to interface with a face of the particulate filter to provide the air to only a sector of the particulate filter. The gauge is configured to determine a pressure of the air within the primary conduit when the probe is providing air to only a sector of the face of the particulate filter. The controller is configured to receive the pressure from the gauge, compare the pressure to a target upper pressure, and provide an indication that the particulate filter is dirty if the pressure is not lower than the target upper pressure.

A controller for controlling operation of an aftertreatment system that is configured to treat constituents of an exhaust gas produced by an engine, the aftertreatment system including a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst, the controller configured to: generate a short-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to reversible degradation of the SCR catalyst due to sulfur and/or hydrocarbons based on a SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a long-term cumulative degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst corresponding to thermal aging of the SCR catalyst based on the SCR catalyst temperature parameter; generate a combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst based on the short-term cumulative degradation estimate and the long-term cumulative degradation estimate; and adjust an amount of reductant and/or an amount of hydrocarbons inserted into the aftertreatment system based on the combined degradation estimate of the SCR catalyst.

An exemplary embodiment is a system, including an internal combustion engine fluidly coupled to an exhaust gas flowpath, an aftertreatment system disposed in the exhaust gas flowpath, where the aftertreatment system includes a NOreduction catalyst. The exemplary system includes a processing subsystem having a controller, where the controller includes modules structured to functionally execute operations for determining a catalyst degradation. The modules include a test conditions module, a testing module, a monitoring module, and a catalyst aging module. The test conditions module interprets a test conditions event occurrence for the NOreduction catalyst, the testing module commands a catalyst efficiency test in response to the test conditions event occurrence, the monitoring module interprets operating condition(s) indicative of a NOconversion efficiency during the catalyst efficiency test, and the catalyst aging module determines a catalyst aging value in response to the at least one operating condition.

Detection of aftertreatment catalyst degradation

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for particulate filter regeneration. The apparatus includes a bypass exhaust channel configured to conduct exhaust gasses away from a main exhaust channel and reintroduce the exhaust gasses into the main exhaust channel upstream from a particulate filter, a burner, and a regeneration module configured to monitor exhaust gas variables and divert a portion of the exhaust gasses through the bypass exhaust channel in response to the exhaust gas variables. An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for differential pressure measurement across a fluid conduit flow area change. The apparatus may include a particulate filter, a differential pressure sensor, and a fluid conduit size change downstream of the particulate filter. The apparatus may include a tube configured to place the downstream differential pressure sensor port in fluid contact with a uniform flow region of the fluid conduit downstream of the particulate filter. An apparatus is thereby provided to measure differential pressure across a fluid conduit flow area change such that the differential pressure measurement is minimally affected by the change in flow characteristics induced by the change in cross-sectional flow area.

A lobed exhaust diffuser apparatus, system, and method configured to cool exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine comprises a diffuser having a proximal end, configured to receive exhaust gases from the engine, and a distal end, configured to expel the exhaust gases into the atmosphere. A plurality of lobes are disposed on the distal end such that at least a portion of the exhaust gases pass through the lobes, increasing the interaction surface area between the exhaust gases and the atmosphere, allowing for more rapid diffusion and entrainment between exhaust gases and atmospheric gases, resulting in more rapid cooling of the exhaust gases.

A system is provided for reducing detectable hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas of a diesel engine and for retarding the formation of sulfate including a housing having an inlet and an outlet, a first exhaust gas glow passage extending from the inlet to the outlet within the housing, a first catalyst bed positioned within the first flow passage, a second exhaust gas flow passage extending from the inlet to the outlet within the housing, and a second catalyst bed positioned within the second flow passage. A unitary system for removing particulates from the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine includes a main flow passage and a by-pass flow passage for conducting the exhaust gas from an inlet portion to an outlet portion of a housing which contains the system. A valve for selectively directing the exhaust gas through one of the passages is provided, with a particulate trap mounted in the main flow passage for trapping particulates within the exhaust gas when the exhaust gas is directed therethrough. A regeneration system is positioned intermediate the valve and the particulate trap with an oxidation catalyst being positioned downstream of the particulate trap and in both the main flow passage and the by-pass flow passage. Further, a control system is provided for selectively activating and deactivating the regeneration system in response to predetermined operating conditions of the unitary system.
