A combination valve including a valve body having an inverted bi-directional valve portion and an umbrella portion is disclosed. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a combination valve includes a valve body with a substantially cylindrical portion defining a flow path, a resilient umbrella valve portion extending annularly from the valve body and an inverted bi-directional valve portion provided in the flow path. The inverted bi-directional valve portion includes an interior surface, an exterior surface and at least one normally closed slit extending therebetween, wherein the exterior surface of the inverted bi-directional valve portion includes a generally concave curved portion when the slit is closed.

Combination umbrella and inverted bi-directional valve

A first expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body and a resilient flow control positioned in the valve body. The valve body has a valve seat including a radially-inner valve seat portion, a radially-outer valve seat portion and a bypass-flow-channel exit located between the two seat portions. The flow control has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a through passage. The bottom surface is spaced apart from the radially-inner valve seat portion under a lower fluid pressure against the top surface exposing the bypass-flow-channel exit. The bottom surface seats against the radially-inner valve seat portion under a higher fluid pressure blocking the bypass-flow-channel exit. A second expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body having a bypass-flow-channel exit and includes a resilient flow control which has a substantially-constant-diameter outer cylindrical surface and which has a bottom surface devoid of any protrusion.

Flow-control valve assembly

A flow control including an annular flexible member and an internal post disposed downstream of the flexible member is described. The annular flexible member has a deflectable inner edge that defines a passage channel and the annular flexible member and internal post define a control gap therebetween wherein the deflectable inner edge of the annular flexible member deflects axially under increasing fluid pressure to reduce the control gap and consequently control fluid flow.

Internal post flow control

A valve system is provided that includes a valve connector that has a portion of a first passageway. The valve connector includes a suction port and an introduction port that are spaced apart and in substantially parallel alignment. The suction port and the introduction port are manipulable to establish fluid communication between the portion of the first passageway and the suction port or the introduction port. The valve connector may have a rotatable outer cap that includes the suction port and the introduction port. The cap being configured to facilitate manipulation of the suction port and the introduction port for establishing fluid communication with the portion of the first passageway. The introduction port may include a normally closed valve. The valve connector may be attached to a dual lumen nasogastric tube. In an alternate embodiment, the valve connector further includes a portion of a second passageway that includes a relief port. The relief port can include a one-way valve.

Automatic valve

A vent and fluid transfer fitment for sealing and transferring a fluid from an inverted fluid-filled container without premature leakage to a receiver attachment, has a transfer check valve and a venting check valve which are preferably duckbill valves. The transfer check valve is attached to the fitment for allowing fluid to be transferred from the container when the receiver attachment engages the transfer check valve. The venting check valve is also attached to the fitment for allowing air to displace the fluid as the fluid exits the container, wherein both the transfer check valve and the venting check valve have an inherent sealing pressure created by the static pressure of the fluid within the container. In addition, the inherent sealing pressure of the venting check valve is less than the inherent sealing pressure of the transfer check valve which allows air to enter the container due to the pressure differential created as the fluid is displaced.

Integrated vent and fluid transfer fitment

A check valve including a housing formed by a base portion and a cap portion positioned in telescoping relation with each other. A disc shaped valve member is positioned within the housing and is defined by opposing first and second planar sides. The valve member includes a spherical portion located centrally thereon and which is captured between first and second valve supports supported on the base portion and cap portion, respectively. The valve supports hold the valve member in engagement with a valve seat, and the valve member moves out of engagement with the valve seat in response to a fluid pressure applied at a fluid inlet in the base portion to permit forward fluid flow while preventing fluid flow in the reverse direction.

Disc type check valve

A dual valve assembly for use with a dispensing apparatus including a pump and a plurality of fluid containers. The valve assembly includes a housing containing an elastomeric regulator wherein the regulator includes a diaphragm portion for controlling fluid flow through the housing, and a vent valve structure for opening and closing air passages to supply air to the containers. The diaphragm portion includes an orifice, and the diaphragm portion is movable into and out of contact with a seat defined on the housing to control fluid flow from the containers and through the orifice during actuation of the pump. In addition, the vent valve structure includes a pair of vent membranes which open vent openings to the containers in response to negative pressure applied from the pump.

Dual dispensing valve assembly

A damper seal for providing a seal between a housing and a tube extending through the damper seal. The damper seal includes a body portion having an exterior surface and opposing first and second ends, the body portion defining a longitudinal axis. An interior surface in the body portion defines an opening extending through the body portion along the longitudinal axis. In addition, a plurality of conically shaped apertures extend axially into the body portion from each of the ends toward an opposing end.

Damper seal

A miniature valve is provided for use in a medical administration set wherein the valve is designed to be fit into very small areas while operating with performance characteristics comparable to those provided by larger valves. The valve is formed as a duckbill valve having very thin substantially planar lips extending in converging relationship to each other. A slit is defined by the lips at an outlet end of the valve wherein the slit is movable to an open position as the lips pivot about a pivot point located on the lips in spaced relation to the outlet end. A support structure in the form of a sleeve is provided for ensuring that the contact surfaces remain in alignment with each other during operation of the valve and to prevent the thin, delicate lips from inverting when a large back pressure force is applied and for improving the inherent sealing characteristics of duckbill valves. In addition, a thin area is provided adjacent to the inlet end of the valve for decoupling the lips from forces which are applied to the valve at the inlet end which could tend to bias the lips apart.

Miniature duckbill valve having a low cracking pressure and high flow

A suction metering and mixing device is disclosed for collecting body fluids such as blood and simultaneously mixing an anticoagulant therewith. The device includes a suction passage having an inlet end and an opposite end for connection to a vacuum supply. A chamber is provided for controlling the flow of anticoagulant and includes a movable passage for conveying anticoagulant into the chamber and a diaphragm dividing the chamber into first and second portions wherein the movable passage may be moved from a position spaced from the diaphragm to a use position in contact with the diaphragm to prevent flow of anticoagulant into the first chamber portion. A fluid connection is provided between the suction passage and the second chamber portion whereby a vacuum may be supplied to the second chamber portion from the suciton passage and the diaphragm is drawn away from the movable passage to allow anticoagulant to flow into the first chamber portion. The anticoagulant then flows through a supply tube to a position adjacent to the inlet to the suction passage where it is mixed with blood entering the suction passage.

Suction metering and mixing device

A suction metering and mixing device is disclosed for collecting body fluids such as blood and simultaneously mixing an anticoagulant therewith. The device includes a suction passage having an inlet end and an opposite end for connection to a vacuum supply. A chamber is provided for controlling the flow of anticoagulant and includes an inlet port defining a passage for entry of anticoagulant into the chamber and a diaphragm dividing the chamber into first and second portions wherein the diaphragm is in contact with the inlet port to prevent flow of anticoagulant into the first chamber portion. A fluid connection is provided between the suction passage and the second chamber portion whereby a vacuum may be supplied to the second chamber portion from the suction passage and the diaphragm is drawn away from the inlet port to allow anticoagulant to flow into the first chamber portion. The anticoagulant then flows through a supply tube to a position adjacent to the inlet to the suction passage where it is mixed with blood entering the suction passage.

A valve assembly is disclosed for controlling fluid flow in a first direction and a second direction. The valve assembly includes a housing for enclosing a substantially circular regulator assembly which extends diametrically across the housing. The regulator assembly comprises a hub portion which is positioned centrally within the housing and connecting members which extend radially toward a rim portion which is supported by the housing. The hub portion supports a disk-shaped substantially inflexible portion of the regulator assembly which extends over the connecting members to engage the rim portion and thereby prevent fluid flow in a reverse flow direction through the regulator assembly. The connecting members of the regulator assembly are adapted to flex and allow the disk portion to move off of the rim and thereby allow fluid flow through the valve in the first direction.
