The lighting assembly () includes a light guide () formed of a resin material propagating light through internal reflection. A housing () surrounds the light guide () and maintains the light guide () in a predetermined position. A light transmissive coating (), such as a vacuum metalized coating, is disposed on the light guide () and faces outwardly of the housing (). The light transmissive coating () disguises the resin light guide () so that the light guide () appears to be a metallic trim. A non-light transmissive coating (), such as a paint, appearing to be the same material as the light transmissive coating (), may be disposed on the light guide () adjacent the light transmissive coating ().

Distributed lighting assembly

A lighting assembly for a vehicle, and in particular, an interior lighting assembly having a reduced profile using solid state illuminators is provided along with a method of construction thereof. The assembly includes a housing; a lens attached to the housing; a printed circuit board disposed between the housing and the lens; at least one light source attached in operable electrical communication to the printed circuit board; and a light blade. The light blade has opposite sides disposed between the printed circuit board and the lens. One of the sides has a first configuration of optics and the other of the sides has a second configuration of optics, wherein the first and second configurations of optics are different from one another.

Reduced profile lamp having enhanced illumination and method of construction thereof

An illuminated cup holder assembly constructed in accordance with one aspect of the invention facilitates the ability to see the cup holder in darkness while also providing an aesthetically pleasing, uniformly illuminated cup holder. The cup holder assembly includes a cup receptacle having an annular outer wall configured to receive a cup. A flexible, resilient finger extends radially inwardly from the annular wall, wherein the finger is configured to engage the cup to inhibit the cup from inadvertent movement in the cup receptacle. The finger has a translucent portion configured in communication with a light source to allow light to be emitted from the light source through the translucent portion into the cup receptacle.

Illuminated vehicle cup holder assembly

A vehicle interior component and lighting assembly that includes a vehicle interior component having a fabric disposed over a substrate or foam layer, or both. An electroluminescent panel is located between the fabric and substrate/foam layer and directs light from the panel through the fabric. In this way, the light source can be effectively hidden when not in use and can be incorporated into the interior component in a manner that requires little space. The vehicle interior component can be any of a number of different interior articles, including, for example, a headliner, door panel, vehicle seat, rear deck, sun visor, and trunk panel. Also disclosed are vehicle interior illumination systems using touch switches and electroluminescent panels to provide back lighting of the switch and/or vehicle interior illumination through the switch.

Vehicle interior lighting systems using electroluminescent panels

A CHMSL () or other lighting system feature of an automobile () includes a feature for presenting personal expressions in the form of words or symbols but is automatically deactivated when the regular vehicle lighting system is in use. The personal expression is fixed in a tangible medium by way of phosphor-coated indicia () placed within a UV impervious housing (). A secondary UV light source () selectively energizes the phosphor-coated indicia () so that the irradiated material glows and is visible through a light transmissive screen (). The light transmissive screen () is provided with a UV blocking agent so that harmful UV rays do not escape the housing (). The phosphor-coated indicia () can be mounted on a removable transparent plate (), on light dispersion optics (), or on the inner face of the light transmissive screen (). A control circuit (&#x2033;) manages the primary light source () and the secondary UV light source () so that only one of the light sources can be energized at any one time.

Vehicular lighting fixture with non-directional dispersion of light

An ambiance lighting system for a vehicular passenger compartment has a variable color light output which is automatically responsive to temperature changes. First and second light sources of different colors (e.g., blue and red) are positioned immediately behind the air discharge vents and are selectively energized by a control circuit so that the first light source radiates light through the vent when the temperature falls below a predetermined value and the second light sources energizes the second color of light when the air temperature rises above a predetermined value. Sensors are used to detect the temperature of air, preferably in the ducting plenum. Various control strategies can be deployed to achieve aesthetically interesting light presentations which enhance ambiance within the passenger compartment.
